Those complaining there was cheating by not dropping the ball need to review the athlete standards and also try both. It is actually much harder to hang onto the ball all the way down. Taxes the core and hamstrings significantly more.

at 17:41 Fraser's judge is signaling two reps left, then calls no rep and then simply lets Fraser leave the GHD.
@JackFou3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, not sure what happened there... maybe she was trying to call GHD finished? It was definitely a bit of a fuck up either way, you can see Mat hesitating for a split second, wanting to get back on the GHD for another rep when she tells him to go on to the slam ball.
@FutureAnonimous3 жыл бұрын
From my perspective I assumed that she didn't see Mat touching with both hands, and called it no-rep, however, he did touch 1sec after, so it's ok?
@mcrdgm3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s because you have to touch the foot part after each rep, and Mat did, but he was already removing his feet while doing it. Later at the end of the round you can actually see her warning him.

I was taught that to perform the slam ball, you opened the hips and extended vertically with arms high and violently throw it down and basically shadow the ball as it falls to scoop it back up. Maybe they "softened" the standard and allowed that touch & go style since it's a 60# ball.

I use heavier and lighter slam balls than that and I can 100% agree. Those were ball drops at BEST. You can see a real flex in grip, back, shoulders and chest when you actually slam the ball. These were the saddest slam balls. Genuinely the biggest cop out effort I've seen at the CrossFit games 2020. I hope they don't program them again because these were just sad. I kind of like not having crowd noise so you can hear how hard the athletes are working. But I'm amazed how quickly they recover. After that trail run, some of them still seemed somewhat fresh. . I like Crossfit and all. When they were hosted locally in Carson, I went to all of them from 2011. But I hardly think this is going to make "sports history" as Grundler was hyping. I doubt it will be in any sports history book. Fans will remember it but it's not exactly like winning the World Series, Super Bowl, NBA Championship, Stanley Cup, New York or Boston Marathons, of an Olympic Medal. Even a few non-fans of those sports might remember who won those. Also, I have yet to see The Games even mentioned on local news.

@Hoehihoh3 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure these guys know how to do that, Noah Ohlsen for instance was a competitive swimmer and water polo player for most of his life. I assume it's probably because their legs are shot from the bike and the ball slams that they don't really have the power to get a really aggressive dive. As far as streamline goes, they are most likely half decent, you also need to take into account their bodies are shaped differently than a swimmer's body would be.
