In "Little Johnny's Landscaping Business", Taryl takes on this 60+ year old lawn mower from Uncle Pat's vast collection of rare and unusual lawn mowers. Can he get this old gal running like new again? It needs A LOT of work, can he do it? Prior to and After the tutorial, Little Johnny starts his own landscaping business and puts the hurt on local 'scaper Jesse who's not a happy camper. See how it all plays out in another hilariously educational small engine repair video from your pals at Grass Rats Garage. The hardest working channel in the biz. And as always... You know you're getting old when you have a lift for working on mowers so you don't have to bend over anymore. I like the look of the old, 'beer can' type of fuel tanks. Great restoration project of a classic mower. Great attention to detail.

The first lawn mower I ever used as a little kid in the late 60s was very similar to that but it had a Clinton with crank start and you cranked it then folded the handle back down it had a button under there and when you pushed the handle into position it would crank the motor....

I don't remember "Pennsylvania" branded across a mower, but I remember the crank start mowers like this were common in the very early 1960's. What my father had back then was probably from the late 1950's. I liked cranking them as a kid because it was easier than pulling a rope. These were fairly common in Western PA where we lived.

That was friggin’ AWESOME, bringing back one of the mowers of my yoot! Yes, Pennsylvania was a very popular brand around here in NJ / NY area. They made all kinds of yard equipment including little riding mowers called “Pennsylvania Panzers”, push mowers, roto-tillers and bigger tractors. That wind-up starter handle is supposed to say Self Starter on it but the Self lettering is worn off. Very nice resurrection!

Great video. I had one of these Tecumish engines on an old Montgomery Ward lawn mower and it never failed to run. Problem was the windup spring eventually broke and the only replacement I could find in my area was a used spring for which the shop owner overcharged me by alot, in my opinion. Eventually it broke too, and my mower went to a handyman at our church rummage sale. This was back in the day when there was no Interscreen to buy parts from. Also, I didnt know you could retrofit the motor with a regular pull cord. Live and learn. I really enjoy these videos of bringing old equipment back to life. Thanks.

My father owned one (Similar) and, I'm the one who was responsible to take care of it. Being a kid, at the time, it was easier for me to start the mower BUT, sometimes, I didn't turned the knob ( Yes, it was a knob. Not a push flat handle) all the way. It made some awful sound, when the "release mechanism" made contact against the running flywheel.

My parents had a Craftsman mower with a hand crank Tecumseh motor. It worked great. My only complaint was the mower was very heavy and harder to push. Must of been a steel mower deck. I mowed 6 yards a week with it in high school. Great mower. I regret not keeping it.

Seeing this mower really takes me back, to when I first started mowing grass as a kid. My dad had that same mower. We lived in Pa., but I don't recall the deck saying Pennsylvania. I do recall playing with the wind-up starter in hopes that the motor would come alive. My dad had given up on that mower, so I started my mowing time on the next mower, a 2 stroke that neither my father, nor I, knew how to start correctly. So, I usually spent a half hour wrapping the rope on, and pulling again and again, before it came alive. So, I kept wishing that rope start 2 stoke was instead like that crank up starter. Later when the deck on the 2 stoke broke, I put that motor on the on the "Pa." deck.

Looks like a mower that would have been sold through an auto parts store like Western, Pep Boys or possibly through stores like F.W. Woolworths, W.T. Grants or Kresge's. Exeter PA on the label is near Reading PA. That was an area that was quite industrial and manufacturing related until Harvard business grads began selling out America to Asian countries.

grouse work Taryl mate she looks lovely afterwards and no kidding she,s a lovely runner in the end and i love how you got her running from a simple fix from the points and condenser replacement to a lawn mower blade and wheel replacement and even a good cleaning and of course getting that arbitrator aka carby cleaning and yep back then those were awesome as engines in their day for sure and as for the Wind up Starter there on the couling or engine cover yep no different to our Australian Made Victa.s here either as the Victa Corvette Model II (2) from the 1960s with the G2 type carburetor aka carby system and brass fuel taps yep a lovely design in it,s time and now days some people call them knuckle busters but yeah i don,t blame those lot out there but yeah very simple and easy and basic to work on and once fully restored well you cannot go wrong with the outcome for sure and of course one for the man cave as some might say and i do also believe the Victa Four Star which is a Four (4) Stroke type of engine with a Kirby Lauson on the deck/chassis/base and a red color from memory too and yep those ones are amazing little gems and good runners too and i love how you got this one running for sure and well yep all the simple basics and she,s back working like a champion of mowers for sure and well in your case with the Seial Number on there in the video being 9115618 well i reckon the unit your working on appears to be a 1968 or 1956 year type for sure if i can think of it correctly but yeah a good gem and way better than the stuff we have now days and that,s for sure and yep back in the good old days Tecumseh sure did know how to make a good engine for sure and that,s a true fact in life for sure too no kidding and i just they were in proper production for sure now days of making good parts like these now days as i know many people would be very grateful for sure and as a small engine and mower and machinery lover myself yep no worries mate and here in Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌴🌳🇦🇺 or the land down under and well during our Autumn/Fall Season🍂 yep a good Mulching unit there for sure when making the attempt of collecting the leaves for sure or simply shred them up into rows for collecting in heaps for sure and i love how this one came out for sure too and cheers from our Country called Australia to your area Taryl mate 👍and i love little Johnny.s idea of mowing lawns and all for sure and i hope he makes some good dough for sure.
