Flirting in the Sweni Lion Pride of Kruger National Park.
Even the small Cub can't understand the 'strange' behavior of its mother!
The Sweni Mega Lion Pride currently consist of 5 Lionesses, 3 Huge Males and 9 cute playful Cubs.
We filmed them close to the Sweni Waterhole on the S126, relaxing in the early morning sun, after they had a good meal during the night from a Wildebeest they caught earlier.

PLEASE VISITORS TO KRUGER PARK:
Respect the Wildlife AND other tourist!
• Please give the Animals space.
• Don’t drive next to animals when they walk down the road.
• If you need to follow them, then do so at a reasonable distance to avoid the stress it might cause the animals by following too closely.
• Please TURN OFF your car engines at a sighting - The Wildlife and other Tourist DO NOT need your AIR and NOISE Pollution.
GAME DRIVE ETIQUETTE - RULES (SANParks):
- When you come across a sighting, slowly pull over on the side of the road closest to the animal, but keep a safe distance
- If there are animals in the road, immediately stop at least 20 m from them
- The lane furthest from the sighting should NEVER be blocked, so that others can pass if they want to
- Don’t linger longer than a few minutes at a sighting, so that others can view it too
- Never go off the designated roads
- Never climb out of your vehicle during a drive, or hang out of your car windows or sunroof
- Don’t hoot or blare loud music
- Avoid driving into vegetation, as this could damage the environment or kill small animals
- During night drives, never shine a spotlight directly in animals’ eyes
- Never make noise to get animals to move, stand up or otherwise react for pictures
- Respect the rangers, and always comply with their requests or instructions

The male is smelling her urine with the Jacobson's organ, (notice his mouth is open, called the flehming response). This occurs when a cat is very interested in examining a new scent. The organ is in the cat's mouth. It was developed to assist males in finding a female in heat. My neutered cat does it whenever he smells a new scent he wants to remember. Looks like this lady has chosen a mate. ❤

He will mate with her when she is ovulating. A Male can literally smell when she is ready. In this clip, you see him check her urine(at 1:46) and have a Flehming Response to see if she is ready. Likely, the female has just started coming into season. Can take a few days before she is ready, but her hormones are def kicking in.

The birds in the tree branches are very amused observant and making remarks which seem to make the lions a bit shy. One male lion with whom the lioness was trying, conveys, ' I am tired,hungry and spent; besides, can't you even see,there are 2 other big lions? Not to mention this seems to be working like a drama theatre". The female says...' well if you say so...I might have a litter,yes. But I feel like I need it,somehow.its ok if you can't give it to me" The big fat and muscular male lion with gaping mouth is standing up by himself in the center of the clearing to the amusement of the naughty birds..." He is thinking out loud..." There you are...3 female lions ...how about me? Did you forget me? I could do it to you. Yes right here now in broad daylight..." But they all know he is totally lying and heavy with food that the lioness had killed not long back. He is only bragging and none of the three are presently lion enough to do the lioness any good 😮😢🎉 while especially the birds seem to enjoy the spectacle and there is zero privacy

@@pyroaeris3817I was gonna say! The whole “alpha” study was retracted because it was putting wolves in unnatural conditions (captivity)- and they did not behave that way in the wild. It most CERTAINLY does not apply to lions, given they’re an entirely different species and males don’t even “rule” prides the way people think they do.

When it comes to hunting, typically the oldest/most experienced lioness will take the lead- and the male(s) scout around the territory, marking it to ward off other lions who are threats to their cubs and competing predators- which allows the lionesses to focus more on their prey. So when you ask who’s in charge, well, it depends what aspect of their life you mean.

Its pheromones/hormones. When a female starts going into heat, she will spray, urinate and try to display her scent to the male. The male, using his Flehming response, can tell when she is ready for mating. At 1:46, he goes over to smell her scent where she was previously sitting and has a Flehming Response to see if she is ready. Seems like she is just starting to come into season here and not quite ready, but the hormones are kicking in.

It’s rare but sometimes two, or even rarer, three brothers from the same pride, will stick together to create a new pride or take over an already occupied pride. When a pride is ruled by two or three brothers, the cubs have a much higher chance of survival because a pack of hyenas or marauding males will stay clear of that territory.
