Yep, they are in the town near where I live & in most, if not all, cities around the UK. Used for pedestrianised areas & for security to stop vehicles from entering, but can still allow for deliveries & emergency vehicles. Like you said, no big deal.

They are in a lot of cities & we have them in the town near me. It's to stop vehicles ramming into gates/buildings & potential attacks. They are also used in pedestrian areas, but are lowered to allow certain vehicles in for emergencies or deliveries etc. I'm amazed people don't know what they are or what they are used for.

That’s why the police are there. Tourists are allowed to touch (only the horses) if the guard allows it.

They are not there to stop the tourists, they are there to stop vehicles ramming the gates or buildings in an attack. They are used in most, if not all, cities in the UK. We have them in the town near where I live to stop vehicles entering the pedestrianised area. They can obviously be lowered to allow permitted vehicles in, for deliveries or emergencies etc. They are very effective at stopping vehicle attacks on buildings & certain areas. Not that big a deal really.

He is Ministry of Defence Police. We have had them since terrorist attacks.

Perhaps To control vehicular access to the Royal palace

Keeps people away from the horse so they don't get stressed

The soldier in camos was trying to fix the bollards. Lately they had been getting stuck part way up so they looked like a staircase lol. In someone’s else’s clip you can hear a tourist say “Oh is something interesting going to happen” & the soldier replied “Nothing! They’re broken” with a ta-dah gesture lol.

The horses are on duty for an hour before being changed and are given the best of care by the military-I’m pretty sure any misery is from having their space invaded and being constantly touched by tourists.
