Attention science experts - considering all of the energy used is converted to heat somewhere in the system, if the kettle only transfers half of the energy to the water where is the rest going? Either the inverter or battery is getting hot too. It would be interesting to see how a 12v kettle performs ie no inverter.

as a long term induction cooktop user, I found comparing it to a kettle is more complex. from my testing. comparing induction vs kettle vs birko ( for the same amount of water) the induction is not the best for heating water.( measuring watt hours etc) but great for cooking etc.

Around 1800W draws 150 Ah, that's a lot of sunlight to cook anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 hours, that's a 300Ah AGM flat for a stew.

Induction cookers are harder to set to simmer then gas as they just keep turning on and off.

I can imagine the carpet surround will get cruddy over time with cooking

Used my single burner induction cooktop this past 2 days. I could not cook higher than level 2 of 5. My lithium would shut off. It is rated for 100 amps. I guess that is not enough if yours pulled 170 amps! I need a second one to get 200 amp rating.

What brand battery do you use? Does it have to be able to discharge at least 177A then?

I have 100a maximum discharge from my lithium 120AH, I was curious if you get an induction cooktop which you set to medium (1000w for example) it sounds like it pulses at full draw rather than continuous at the lower power...

At 2 minutes it was stated that it was drawing 177 amps. What voltage are you using?

We had the same experience with a 100ah battery and the same time to boil water at 1000 ft of elevation. One caveats the bms needs to be a 100amp bms or the battery will shut down a 50amp bms cannot deliver the peak voltage required

No one seems to have mentioned you can get a 110v induction cooker from America. Use a 240v to 110v 1kw transformer on a 240v 2000w inverter. That way the transformer absorbs the initial spike of the full power of the induction hob without tripping the inverter so long as you reduce the power of the induction hob after starting it.

see this is the kind of stuff we need to hear, raw numbers. Not like yeah i think it was about probably maybe a 1000w or something to cook my whatever. No just come with the battery you have and a percentage, or Ah you used. That means i can now go on and think like ok my system can do this easy. So i might actually go on and buy a bit bigger inverter and cooktop as im running prettymuch double-3times the solar and a 560Ah battery. So i think i could even get away with a normal 3 zone induction plate and a 4kw inverter then and stil not pull that battery to 0.

You kind of lost all authority calling that bacon. As an American I feel offended lol. I am curious about the difference between a electric skillet and a induction. I know it's higher but I can cook more on the skillet and avoid using more power for a second burner right? I might do a small one burner induction and a skillet depending on what I need.

My guess is minimum 30 amps to cook pasta. Then the meat. Then the vegetables. Then a cup of tea. Then heat water for washing up. No way dinner is getting cooked for a family for under half your battery capacity. Fine if your near a caravan park. No good in the bush.

We readily accept computers and cell phones but are more reluctant to go from a flame to induction. Mostly in the states in stores which have gas and electric ranges for sale, no one even has an induction range on the sales floor and the staff has no idea why this electric range costs more. To learn we have to keep that area of our brains active and it is good that we do, as if we continue to learn into our senior years, we stand a better chance of going the distance to, when we die, die with out wits undimmed. Whatever we need to apply ourselves to learn and why it works and how to get the best out of it, helps us ultimately in everything else we do. I do have an induction range in my kitchen, had to wait 7 weeks to get it, and it was well worth the wait. I had to argue with the electricians who did not put the proper circuit breaker into carry the load. Whipped out my owner’s manual and said: “These are the manufacturer’s specs and this is the power usage. Get the wire, the proper circuit breaker and BTW, the outlet has to match the hook up from the range”. They did not want to do it and my husband isn’t very good at understanding how induction works until we had it installed. Now he loves it. Men may not like a woman who can read and then understands what she reads but the specs are all about what is safe to carry the load so that the romax is the gauge to carry the load. It is the oven as in the standard electric range which takes more power to run, but so you can also have all 4 burners running, means the amperage is greater. No, duh! Blonde hair and female do not equal “stupid”. My dad had Alzheimer’s at my age and my mother’s wit were also dimmer. I am 69. We eat a plant-based diet due to cancer concerns and arthritis and asthma which we were not expecting it would help. The diet means I no longer have to use my wheelchair. As we age, we need to go with what is smarter and not take the doctor’s toxic “you’ll be on these meds the rest of your life” meds. It is good for him and his bank account and the drug manufacturers. My husband is 70, he takes one blood pressure pill as he loves his salt shaker more than I. I don’t take meds, don’t need to. Yes, loads to learn about the diet change. But it is better than being sick. Good video. Think even though we have a motor home with an LP range, that a two-burner induction portable cooktop, is a good idea. I do have a single burner I used to see if induction was what I would like and it was. Advantage is that cabinets don’t get coated with a sort of lacquer from the residue of burned gas and animal fats. A cleaner environment at home or on the road is best for health too.
