Jody from Weldingtricks and tips did a comparison between all waveforms and advanced AC, he used a rotator with a stationairy torch, all settings the same. Then he cut and etced, and he found almost no difference between the waveforms, however the penetration on ac advanced was way better. So it has its merits indeed.

170 amps would def be enough with this setting. Don't think any 170amp machine has "advanced AC" because everlast and fronius I think are the only ones who include it in their machines, in the U.S. Anyway. However, preheating with a flame 🔥 goes A LONG WAY. I used that method for several years. Worked fine, just a little slower, with 170amps. Best of luck!

Very cool, my 200DV doesn't have that feature. I've preheated with map gas on thinner stuff to weld it on 120 Volts before out in the field and that worked pretty well. In a pinch Welding quarter wall with 200 amps I would probably bevel the plate+preheat. I could see how this would be really useful on a 300 amp machine to weld some seriously thick aluminum without the need for helium as well. Do you think welding overhead with this advanced pulse you could penetrate plate 120%? I've tried in the past with regular ac and the puddle tends to sag and suck back before solidifying.
@ShainAndrews

Thank you for showing us this. I have a 210ext which I love, but I've been struggling with welding 1/4 aluminum. In my case, I'm welding 1/4 flat bar on both sides, so penetration is not as big a concern. However no matter what I try, I can't get a clean weld. Very dirty. Been struggling for weeks trying to find the problem. Can you share what settings you used for the non advanced weld? Also, it wasn't clear if you were running a helium mix or just recommending it for advanced AC. Thanks for all you do.

I'm just getting ready to start trying TIG (DC only)...but, if the weld was getting so hot that you needed to use a bigger fill rod, why would turning the amperage down or backing off the pedal not be a solution?
@ButBigger42
@ButBigger42 2 жыл бұрын
Pulse actually makes it harder to get through that 1/4. Better solution is standard welding with a low frequency like 40hz, no pulse. Preheating the piece also makes it work. I've welded 1/4 to 1/4 alum with an alphatig 200 that way plenty of times.
@brandyquad
@brandyquad Жыл бұрын
@@ButBigger42 the advanced ac pulse and standard pulse are two very different things. I think you need to watch the video again. Preheat is great, but if you're welding on a boat, this and/or helium mix is what i would be doing with a 210 amp machine. Not waiting on preheat. I do wonder how well it does on dirtier material. Might need to turn the cleaning up some.
@ButBigger42
@ButBigger42 Жыл бұрын
@@brandyquad here is my suggestion to you. Take 3 identical plates and weld one on advanced ac pulse, standard pulse. And then no pulse. Measure the heat on each one immediately after welding. Pulses runs will be hotter. I do things like that as demos for my weld students.

They are badly prepared your parts, in aluminum you have to make an edge on each side where there will be penetration. that's why sometimes you have penetration but only on one side. As for the ratio of intensity and thicknesses to be welded, there is a second factor, it is the density of what you want to assemble.
