Thank you for this update! It literally seems like they just watched Jenny Nicholson's video and implemented as many of her suggestions as they could LOL

I’m only found out about this place from the Jenny video which I just watched today! Thought I’d look into it more then found this, and had the same musing that a lot of the fixes/improvements seem to be a response to her feedback! Good to say they’re trying to improve and develop.

the new play stile where the story represents every day is a really good way to help put boundaries in and help protect the cast, as this will stop people from getting to close to the characters and crossing lines as everyday is a fresh start
@bladewolf39

Honestly, the parasocial aspect of that style of play was the biggest red flag for me after watching Jenny's video. It just seemed kinda irresponsible cuz at the end of the day, theyre supposed to be characters. The resetting the story every day to me seems like a bit of a necessary evil in the sense so that both parties can have a fun and safer experience. And for anyone that disagrees, Im sorry you feel that way, but for a park like Evermore where the main entertainment is through its characters and is open to a more general public in a suburban neighborhood, safety should be a priority for both the guests and the park employees.

I've been re-watching the Jenny Nicholson video and I wonder if her criticisms gave them the idea to switch to a new model where the story resets every day. It does suck to lose the deep, long immersion aspect but it's probably more sustainable this way.
@TheNickhis

It would only be sustainable if they established consistent, marketable IP that you can use to market various works around, which the CEO decided to throw out the window in early 2021.

As another update for those watching, this winter season is free entry then you pay for anything extra like the story walk through and archery. I would not recommend traveling from afar for this event, but if you are local the lights may be fun to walk through since that's free. I wouldn't recommend the combo pass as the train has been down a lot and I don't think the bird show wouldn't have room to accommodate everyone who gets a combo pass.

I will note that the heads of management have been let go since the making of this video, so much of the information in it will have changed by next season. They were an amazing team and made any positive changes they were allowed to make. The new acting VP has said we can expect a little more plot next season, that guilds will not remain season to season and that they are no longer advertising the park as a ren faire but an "experience park". I'm sure I'll have more thoughts to add on the next Evermore season first impressions video.

Honestly after watching Jenny's video I wanted to go here despite its history. I like a place that's found out its lofty goals aren't coming true, because then when it builds back its always better than it ever could have been before. I'm keeping an eye on the building back up to know when the right time to go will be (will have to coordinate with a furry convention out west because i'm on the east coast and will be driving out)

Great insight. My family are the once-or-twice-per-season visitors (it's an hour plus drive each way which makes it difficult). We made our pilgrimage this past weekend and I wish I had checked your update prior to attending. Though my teen & young adult children had heard rumors that the format was changing it was a bit jarring to arrive in town and attempt to learn the gossip but not be able to get far as there is no story to catch up on. It took a few hours to try and find our new footing and bearings, but near closing we finally began to figure it out. Once we got our bearings of what we were wanting from the experience, we were able to enjoy ourselves. As an individual who made the occasional trip, I felt a connection to the characters and actors, but often felt on the outs when some of the more regular guests seemed to get a bit "possessive" of the connections they had worked so hard to forge and appeared to be threatened by a newcomer who would arrive and strike up conversations. These changes do help level the playing field on that front. In Lore last year, we arrived on the first weekend and there had been no story developed which made it extremely difficult to connect or do much of anything with the storyline as we knew we would be unable to return during the season. On the flip side, attending near the end of the season with the new format, the actors appeared to be a bit less enthusiastic. They seemed to have begun running out of steam. I appreciate all of the work they do and may have caught them at a bad moment. I just didn't feel very invested in learning about the characters this time. All of this said, we are planning to pivot. There will be much more pre-work being done and we will probably take some more time to actually explore the park. I am already planning to bring some friends and take more moments drinking in the vibe, looking for the easter eggs and messages from unseen characters, and engaging other guests in trinket trading, etc. Because at the end of the day, the park is about the ambiance and the experience of what you make it. My truly favorite memories have come from those immersive moments when I've been able to share stories around the fire at the Hunters' Lodge or sing at the top of my lungs in the tavern. Long live Evermore!

Great job on the video. If I had experienced this season in person, I would have been miserable with the decisions of the park leadership. Without immersion, without character relationship development, and without guild advancement, I think that I would have not wanted to be there anymore. I think that is one strike too many. It is so hard when what Evermore was speaks so powerfully to me, it is a great difficulty to process how far it has gone away from that. It was interesting seeing some of the returning actors, though. I will say about the lack of communication for the annual passholders this year -- the way they failed on key promises last year had already undermined my trust in them to the point that I would not have purchased an annual pass this year -- had I remained in Utah.

It seems like if you want draw the numbers you need for a park... It should reset everyday. The deeper ongoing story for regulars isn't really a park but a larp group. Maybe they would benefit more from each month three weeks of daily repeating shows and one week of ongoing larp events.

Thanks for this. I am a fan of the larger immersion style. But i do understand that what ever changes seem to make it more of the owners vision of what it was supposed to be in the beginning. Also they do need to focus on finishing the park. In all reality it opened much earlier than it should have. They needed more years to build it (and funds) before it would be ready to being in the crowds that they want. That being said, i wouldnt trade any of my time or experiences for all the money in the world. It was a magical place. Lets hope they can bring that magic back for everyone.

@@littlebones4441 yes that's what I was trying to say by owner's vision. But the park wasn't ready, and the actors where thrown to the wolves and told 'make it work'. What came out of it was magic. Pure chaotic wonderful magic.

Thank you so much for the thorough breakdown of the season and the new model they are using! I have a question which I would love your informed opinion on. I went to Evermore last year for Lore for the first time, and had a great time - definitely a bucket-list item for me. I am tentatively planning to potentially go back again before the year is out, and was hoping that this time I might spring for a two-day weekend, coming on both a Friday and Saturday night. However based on the way they are choosing to operate this season and potentially for future seasons, is a two-day trip even appropriate? Are the characters I meet on Friday going to have completely forgotten about our previous interactions come Saturday?
@everadventuress
@everadventuress Жыл бұрын
That rule doesn't seem to be as hard and fast as it was explained to me. (Things are ever changing even after I make a video.) If you make yourself memorable they will remember you the next night. That's a really tough question. Some of the shows only happen once a night, so there is a good chance you could miss those if you are invested in something else at the time. If I were traveling from a far distance I would want to give myself the option to go both nights. You could always decide after the first night if you want to head back, but ticket prices often change between seasons, so there's a possibility you would save money by buying them now. Either way, will you let me know how you liked your trip after you come? I'm curious to hear if you felt like you needed a second night.

@everadventuress If I do end up going this year, I will definitely report back. I appreciate your videos and coverage! I think the park is deserving of both the praise and the criticisms it gets respectively, but one thing I love is the fan community that had sprung up around it and all the people who are passionate about wanting it to thrive and be great. ❤️

My guess. By the amount of time, effort and money it takes to build such an immersive environment. They really can't afford to lose any financial opportunities to fund the park. Disney has more money than Bill Gates and there's still plenty of attendees that will pay $10 for a 20oz coke so they're not willing to disrupt a some what thrifty family day. However I do think places like this should make exceptions for certain dietary needs. To me it's no different than medical exceptions..

@@everadventuress oh ok, how did you come about getting a tarot card based on your character?
@everadventuress
@everadventuress 4 ай бұрын
I explained that confusingly in the video so I'll try again here. In 2018 there were 4 tarot cards you could collect from completing quests. The conman, the hunter, the maiden, and the auctioneer. A contest was held at the end of the season, where you had to make a video showing you had all the cards and why you would be a good champion of Evermore. 4 champions would be chosen to get two free tickets to closing night and be able to participate in an exclusive quest.(though actually 5 were chosen as a couple submitted a video together). On the night of the champion quest (and the final night of the season) a character named Wickam revealed the champions had been chosen because they each represented one of the four tarot cards and its attribute. The character I came to park as had been chosen to represent the maiden. So we were avatars of sorts, a chosen embodiment of the attributes of the tarot cards. The attribute for the maiden was heart, for the hunter card/avatar it was strength etc. So there is not a card that was created for my character (though there was a separate contest where someone won that, though as far as I'm aware it was only ever presented digitally and not printed out). I got to play a role in a finale quest where my character represented that card rather than having a card designed after my character. Hopefully that makes sense.

Is not sustainable for the park to operate as a long LARP history model, unless they get something like a monthly ticket. Because, in any business or park, if you pay for an entry it does not matter your are regular or a one time visiter, you should have the same experience and at the same quality level. Otherwise, as a business model, it would never be sustainable.
