Everton secured their first trophy for 14 years with goals from Graeme Sharp and Andy Gray.

I am a Liverpool fan and i find it sad that the football world has forgotten how good Everton were in the mid 80s. I blame Sky and the Premier league for pretending that football only started in 1992

No stars? Well not according to the Everton-hating Media, but you as a Dark Side fan knows fine well how many actual world class players there were in that team. We didn’t need the media’s acceptance, nor did we get any recognition from them. The media have always hated us since Harry Catterick’s time in the sixties because he wouldn’t let the players talk to the media without his permission. He threatened to sell Alan Ball after he found out he’d spoken to the press behind his back! The media have never forgiven us for that.

Somethings stay in your mind as clear as day . I can remember this fantastic match like it was yesterday. A very warm day and I just knew we were going to win . You could feel the blues 💙 were on the verge of something special. The noise in the stadium was electric the blues singing and dancing all around. What a magical day it was . Then when they came back with the cup on the Sunday I was by Lime Street and I swear I have never seen so many blues in one place . Was blessed to witness the greatest Everton team of all time .

@kevinshanahan60643 ай бұрын
Last I heard is Steve was still trading as a financial adviser as football in his day didn’t set you up for life. Ref - any one of another 99 refs would have seen Gray fouled Sherwood - feet off floor and 2 hands on ball. Gray’s momentary hesitancy to celebrate was a big giveaway he didn’t touch the ball, just Sherwood.

Not taking anything away from Everton they deserved the win. But anyone with an ounce of integrity knows that goal was headed out of the goalkeeper’s hands, and under normal circumstances would be disallowed.

@@geedus71 I was fortunate enough to meet a member of that Watford side while on holiday a few years ago and asked him about that goal. Naturally the fact it was allowed annoyed him but he confessed it didn't make any difference. He said the way Everton started the second half was a few gears up on the first, They were already the team that would dominate the League the following season and although they didn't blow Watford away but he felt, as a player on the pitch that they were losing all the 50/50s and getting bossed in midfield. It was as if they knew they were going to win no matter what Watford did. His honest assessment was that it was perhaps a blessing in disguise the goal got disallowed because Everton took their foot off the gas, while their annoyance at the goal being ruled out might have seen them go on and score another two or three.

In a little over a 12 month period,March 1984 to May 1985,Liverpool and Everton won a league championship each,FA cup,League cup,European cup,European Cup winners cup and Charity shield.Within this period,Liverpool were runners up in the Charity Shield,European Super cup and Intercontinental cup,whilst Everton were runners up in another FA cup final.This seems to have been totally forgotten about,but then Football only started in 1992....:)
Not exactly. Only two league titles in that period - same as Arsenal and two less than Liverpool.

@@nicholasweaver7809 In the 70s and 80s, football violence was prevalent at most English clubs, and Liverpool FC were no innocents. Do you really think that all English clubs were banned because of one act? For over 30 years we've had to endure the "murderers" chant by the blue hordes, most too young to remember the last time the Ev were relevant. The bitterness you feel against Liverpool FC results in Heysel becoming an excuse for the Ev's lack of any kind of success for 30 years. Face it... you've become a minor PL club in a city where your biggest rival has out performed you for decades. Enjoy your bitterness.

As an Evertonian, I thought Watford were a bit unlucky. They created some great chances, and could have been ahead before our first. Some said they were just happy to be there, but I don’t agree. They were right in it until our second goal. Ironic the run by Peter Reid in second half. In the Cup final the following year, he made the same run except there was only one player near him, Kevin Moran, who brought Reid and got sent off. Manure who weren’t in it until then took over being inspired as down to ten men, against a mentally and physically tired Everton team won, and our treble chance was gone. Two mistakes led up to that. Kendall didn’t allow enough time off to rest after the ECWC final in the mid-week, and Southall’s one and only real mistake I ever seen him make led to the Manure goal. Van den Hauwe had Whiteside covered near post and Southall never got far enough across to the far post. Had he done so, the goal might have looked good on TV, but for that error it would have been a routine save for the worlds greatest keeper!

@@danielmicheli354 Oh wow, thanks for giving me the definition buddy :-) yeah I also think it's absurd, why was the rule made?
@danielmicheli3543 жыл бұрын
@@aspiknf The complaint was because many teams were said to have slowed down or delayed the game by continually passing the ball to their goalkeeper, you know, he usually took a few seconds to send the ball into the field to consume time and gain an advantage. It was absurd because the six-second rule already existed, the goalkeeper had six seconds to return the ball to play. But, you know, FIFA thinks with its ass or its pocket; for the game, for the essence of football they don't give a shit.
