landon donvan had the skills to be one of the best at any team in the world, but his mentality was sorely lacking. dude was a hothouse flower and everything had to be *perfect* for him...but when it was he really could shine. clint dempsey was totally different, hard as nails mentally with a colda55 swaggering stroll.
@jesussaldana45583 жыл бұрын
it was only lacking because MLS was so hesitant to let him be free......Gulati really forked him over because he had the talent to be in a top club like City or Bayern

That's silly, the only poor mentality is that you can only achieve greatness by going to Europe. Donovan did far more for his legacy by spending most of his career in MLS and still remains, for many, the greatest US player ever. He certainly is for me. He did so much to grow this league which will have the greatest impact on our future. The young'ns today still have it all to prove.

That’s how it goes in sports sometimes a guy has some but not all of the ingredients to make a good player. These countries like Brazil and Argentina just produce so many guys that eventually some of them pan out. Landon was not bad for the USA though.

That weighted ball by Donovan at 6.45 is exactly why we need him back at Goodison. Quality!

Don't really get this narrative. Donovan scored five world cup goals, carried us to a WC quarterfinal, helped us top a WC group with England in it, scored against Brazil in a Confederations Cup Final, etc., what more would he honestly have done for the national team if he played in the Premier League?

Carvalho actually being punished in a Chelsea shirt for a foul in the box! WOW that has to be a first. I remember particularly that season he got away with so many. Against Spurs he should've conceded a penalty for a clear foul on Robbie Keane at 1-0 to Chelsea then immediately after they made it 2-0. West Ham away he basically assaulted a player in the box and got away without conceding another. JTerry also benefited from many poor decisions that season which helped Chelsea just nick the title.
