What a beautiful play from Everton. I didn't know this club and his great players, Sheedy, Gray, etc...Salutations from Barcelona. Great play, great football.

As well as playing it crisply on the deck, they were competitive and direct. They really put defences under relentless pressure. One of the finest British teams ever.

Bracewell was such an underrated player...absolute class and so unlucky with injuries
@mango4ttwo6352 жыл бұрын
not underrated at the time, even if England manager Robson - people forget how poor an England manage he was until the 1990 WC. Not as well remembered as he should have been coz of his terrible injury. Was the class artist alngside the bruider and engine of Reid. Q complementary coupling

Fantastic Everton team that, had all the answers. Joy to watch. Speed and movement and crossing ability. Fabulous memories. If they got in trouble one of the fastest players in defense u ever saw in Rats and the best keeper in the world at the time.

This was the game where Jack Charlton was asked after the game about his team's performance and he said "I thought we were lucky to get nil." a phrase used ever since to describe a team completely outplayed in every department.

I will always remember the football headlines in the papers that morning was about a interview Jack Charlton gave about he new how to beat Everton and his team had worked all week to do just that . So i headed off to goodison a bit worried but no need in the end . Atmosphere was terrific that day and the grand old lady looked and felt great with a slight mist around the stands and pitch very happy days 💙👍

One of the best teams this country has ever seen , this team, could play lovely football, and also be tough if you fancied a battle, some great footballers and characters in that team

Happy days indeed. What a team we had then, a match for anybody. Imagine Sheedy's left foot on a modern pitch. Great memories.

I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again...Graeme Sharp was the greatest header of the ball of all time
@virtuafighter34 жыл бұрын
was he better than Andy Gray?
@frankhornby68734 жыл бұрын
virtuafighter3 .....equal....
@SJHUE4 жыл бұрын
@@virtuafighter3 Both legends and both great but quite different I`d say. Andy Gray was very brave and would stick his head in anywhere hence his magnificent diving headers! But Sharp`s ability to hang in the air was exceptional. Also I`ve seen a lot of centre forwards who are good at winning the ball in the air but not so good at directing the ball whilst doing so. Sharp could do that. Watching the first half of the 1989 FA Cup Final vs Liverpool you can see Sharp beating all four of the Liverpool back line in the air from Southall`s goal kicks. Hansen of course was good at beating Sharp in the air but only when he tugged at Graeme`s shirt just before he was about to launch himself! When Ian Rush went to Juventus they asked him who he would like to have as his partner up front and he said Graeme Sharp. There was a good reason for him saying that. All the best guys!
@johnbarton32523 жыл бұрын
Without a doubt, Sharp was fantastic in the air, he also had the best first touch of any centre forward I have ever seen, Maybe Van Basten ran him close

I was at this game, but in my mind it was played midweek. I remember it was dark (and scary) walking back through Stanley Park afterwards.
@martinkulkarni35692 жыл бұрын
So was I there. All the way from Newcastle as I am a Geordie Evertonian! It was a Saturday match. It would have been dark pretty quickly as it was in January. I remember it was bloody cold, and sometimes the train back to Newcastle didn’t have any heating! Still, being the best team in the land, and probably in Europe at that time kept me warm! Actually, when we played at the start of the season, stealing a 2-3 win, I was there and thought Newcastle were excellent, and perhaps should have won! Having seen us all that season, I think the two games we were really tested was that game at St James, and Sunderland at home, even though we got 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Goal Of The Month in April 85! Sunderland took the lead and had two goals chalked off for offside at 0-1 and 2-1,:which were never offside!

another poor display from Everton,Everton 0-2 sheff utd yesterday.......Marco Silva should watch these old Everton games and study and learn from them ,this is the way football should be played to hell with passing the ball about all day in your own half.Get the ball in their box and make things happen.This Everton side at the moment are playing with no cohesion,and let's get back to basics...for example a defender on each post when at corner kicks,not to mention zone making which is a complete and utter waste of time.A true blue.
