A lot of KZfaqrs a long time ago doing lets plays would load up either the kitchen with their loot or the upstairs bathroom. I'm pretty sure that is why the loot spawns there.

Come on now, I know everyone wants their head cannon of things to be true but realistically speaking, those are the ONLY two places in most houses for loot to even spawn in the first place…

bedside tables, bookcases, shelves, and the fact that they can spawn in ANY container and fill it with any loot is the puzzling bit. They can literally place a new bookcase or military crate or backpack and stuff it... but it's always the bathrooms and kitchens. And MANY houses don't have cabinets in their bathrooms, so that's out.

@@The-Backlog My headcannon on the matter is that survivors wanted the essentials in multiple rooms in case there was a breach. Like if you had a gun, a bat, bottle of water and some cans of food in the bathroom then if they break in the front door you could shut the door, quickly grab your stash, and then bail out the window. Basically having multiple emergency stashes for a quick escape. Granted it would make more sense if it was in a go-bag but I guess not everyone has a bag to stash things in?

I looted the apartments with britas on. It's worth noting that these are considered millitary aps so you will already be getting some axes/hunting knifes even on top of the annotated map but I left with about 1100 pounds worth of guns/ammo and 200 pounds in everything else. I got 18 machetes and 12 hand axes alone which I still haven't run out of hand axes 13 months later

What did you edit the spawn values for the stuff to? 100% no reductions or left it at the 10-50% range that the items usually have?

The storing of items in Kitchens and bathrooms in survivor homes is down to the container type. Cabinets are (after metal shelves) the most diverse type of container in terms of total toot table entries and can be found in almost every single building. As a result its easier for Indie Stone to make sure these events work by just setting the extra loot to spawn in cabinets both for map entries and random survivor homes. Using cabinets ensures the extra loot will always spawn unless you get something like that shed entry.

i saw a really depressing annotated map that was pointing to a house in louisville. the only text on the map other than the marked house was "Thanks for putting me down. This is where I lived. I thought I had everything I needed."

Oh yes. I covered that one in my Louisville Annotated maps video. Though, I personally think the most depressing is in Riverside. There's one where a wife is leaving a note for her husband to let him know where she's going... Very dark.

yeah both you and retanaru has done a video about marchridge and how incredibly boring it is to visit, but it has some things going for it, first of all its the closest gas station to nearby secret military base so good if you need fuel before trying to stake that out, then there is offcourse the topic of this video and the VHS store which can provide loads of free EXP. And there is a garage and a sizable library in the community centre which is worth picking trough.

Omg wow just the other day, I'm like 2 1/2 months in my pz world and I went to March ridge no annotated map, drove past a crud ton of zombs since I have 2.5x the normal amount of zombs (respawn off) then drove around and stopped at the apartments thinking it'd be a really good loot spot cleared the area around the building to halfway/mostly cleared outside, then went inside and I was astonished with the amount of loot I found it was insane but still a ton more zombs inside tho. I was in bad need of duct tape and found like around 30 duct tapes in the first floor 😂 with guns, tools and food out of my mind. I found 2 big hiking bags which was an upgrade from my regular hiking bag that I had been using and used the other big hiking bag to fill that up with even more loot. I filled that alllll up and dumped it off in my pick up truck a couple times and the only reasons I didn't go up the next floors was cause I got jumped by a single bathroom zombie got lacerated and was like nope I'm getting too loot gobliny and cocky that was stupid of me 🤣 and If I was cornered in the 2-4th floor it would be a death trap for me 😅 then dipped definitely going back now to finish the 2nd -4th floor after seeing that huge loot pile 👀 and I didn't even pick up the remains of the first floor too so wish me luck 😋 thanks for helping me figure out why that apartment was so looted I thought it was bugged! There was no planks on the windows

The Apt's in March Ridge is full of loot. On a multiplayer server. Its a good place to go and load up. Most people avoid it.

I like March Ridge myself, but then I use a map called 'march ridge expanded' (or enhanced lol) and this adds on an actual university looking place, a secret military base (tho that chunk could be added onto the map I added, got a fair few maps all over the place, just love folks creative additions) and more stuff to the top left side of March Ridge. I tend to spawn there when starting a nomad or ranger char because I spawn at a small camp out back of the military facility. It's a two tent camp with a campfire and a well. A log pile container that sometimes spawns a log of two. First time I spawned there, I also got a forestry Ute, with a few basic items (a hand axe, some matches and a few smokes. Very handy as I was a pacifist smoker with panic attacks lol) There is lots of space, and trees, and best of all, it's behind a large tall barbed wire topped fence (that surrounds the facility) so you only have to deal with a few Forrest zombs and anyone that managed to get thru the one tile gap below the camp. Inside the fence area just below the hole in the fence, there is a lake. But lots of zombs. I play custom sandbox single player, and tend to have the pop low and tweeked to no respawn. And the place is always crawling with em, even then. And near the lake is the edge of the facility. A Spiffo's to be exact lol. Guess even then, the army was doing deals. Maybe vanilla march ridge would feel better with the '10 years later' ,'barricaded world' and 'trash and corpses' mods? Ten years adds lots of vegetation, vines and grass ext. You can remove it if you want, and removing the ground vegetation can give foraging exp and sometimes items. Barricaded world adds erosion to the map. Boarded up windows, broken doors ect. Makes the world look like the event took place more than a few days ago. And trash n corpses adds just that. But interactive. You can have just trash, just corpses, a mix of both or even just skeletons with no clothing. Those three are great for a '6 months later' run. I'm hoping after build 42, that the Devs make a map maker mod, cause I'd love to make some myself. But it's a bit harder than I'm used to (Morrowind and old never winter nights was as far as I got lol) as it is right now. Tho Daddy Dirkydirk's got some great vid tutorials up here you can follow to learn how to map mod yourself.

The reason the guns will be in the bathrooms is the same reason that I keep a shotgun in our deepest bathroom in the home with a door breacher muzzle attached. It's for last measures particularly for my woman. She barricades herself in the bathroom with thr shotty. So in a practical sense it's where you should always have a last resort firearm. Same with bedrooms and they are usually of the same thing, a final room to get to. Works for women and children. If they hear the father/husband go down they can access the situation clearer with a bit more time.

Yeah the safe room approach makes sense if the bathroom doesn't have first floor windows. Also construct that door out of som THICC wood or metal. But many of these houses stock the first floor bathrooms...

I just started playing and noticed quite a bit of these maps spawn on zombies, are they even worth picking up at all or just ignore them/check for the op stashes and throw out?

They DO also reveal that are of the map, which is nice, but yeah, check which ones you find and maybe make a notation on your own map for the good ones.

I think its using only the Kitchen and Bathroom as I would assume they are the most similar to the Wooden Creates. IMO these Annotated maps would be fun if they kept the exterior of the house (with Barricades) but completely changed the interior, the likes of having wall mounted guns, actual crates and boxes, locked boxes and maybe even having 2 story houses having their stairs deleted for a rope, do you risk the rope climb? either die or get loot. Also having a geared up zombie bounded to the house, so they can't leave a certain radius, as the "owner" of the house - zomb could have a few things on them, backpack with food and a couple weapons, 'survival' gear and not just generic civi clothing.

There are options that they haven't used in the vanilla game, so hopefully they will add things like that, but they can now spawn specialized zeds in a stash.

So I've had a problem, maybe it's just how it works... If I have multiple annotated maps and they aren't separated by bag they'll all be the same map. So if I have 2 in my inventory and it shows a riverside house the other map in my inventory will also be that exact same map with same annotations. But if I open one and drop it then open the other it'll be a different map. So I'll find 5-6 drop all but 1 open it, drop it, pick up and open 1 at a time. Then once I've opened them all I pick em all up

If you expand the list to show all the individual maps you have you can read each one separately.

So does the annotated map loot not spawn until you've read the map? Or can I just go to the buildings you've displayed here and get the annotated loot?

It INITIALIZES the stash and that generates the loot in the building, and then adds the annotated maps to the loot pool. So yes, you can just travel to the building to see if it is active.

Oh, it's just a setting in the admin mode. You can see all of the maps and which ones have already spawned, and choose to spawn them directly. Also you can look at their descriptions in the LUA files to see exactly what they are doing. Though (As I'm making a mod full of stash maps right now) I really wish it was more robust with more options.

Hold up so, if I remember correctly the locations that annotated maps lead to can still spawn even if you don't find their specific map after a certain amount of time. So therefore, if I did let's say a 12 months later run, and don't find the map for the apartment, the guns will still spawn? If so, imma be making a trip to March ridge very soon...

The extra loot/zeds/barricades only spawn if the stash is initialized, but yes. If it is initialized then you don't even need to find a map to go to the location and grab the loot. So you can get there and not find the extras, but the inverse is also true.

No, once the stash has been INITIALIZED the loot/zeds/barricades all spawn and the map is added to the loot pool.

You do not NEED to find the map, so long as the stash is initialized you'll find the loot. However, that doesn't mean that stash WILL be active every time.

So, would the loot for the annotated map still spawn if I already looted the dorm? I saw you say that the annotated map initializes the stash spawn, but how would it work if the place has already been looted

That's really hard to say. I've never found concrete evidence either way. I've done tests and none of them are really satisfying in their result, but I've heard anecdotal evidence either way.

So, I started a new game and the dorm isn‘t looted yet. If I were to find the annotated map, it would spawn the guns as usual right? Also, is there a way to force the spawn without debug? Or is it just RNG?

@@biloo24 It's pure RNG. Some of the maps (Very few) only pop after a certain time, but it looks like the further you travel the more maps open up.

How can you find all of them? Are they randomly spawned in places? Are there multiple March Ridge maps (like I got two maps but they got the same coordination as the other one)?

Yeah, each of the maps mentioned int he video is a different map. In a random game world only a few sill spawn initially, but more will drop as you explore the world. I usually use the debug mode to spawn them all in so I can document them.

march ridge is really crappy until you figure out that its loot spawn tables completely trump most of the rest of the map besides west point or louisville. March ridge has a way better loot table opposed to containers and types of containers to loot. There is no military themed area in it, but most of the night stands and cabinets in the large amount of houses have a better chance at spawning guns than other places, then there is the annotated map that will give you all the weapons you'll need for years in game wise.

I haven't been able to verify that for certain. But I THINK that it spawns in the map and loot at the same time. So you don't need to have READ the map, just have it spawned.

@@tecslicer Not the loot maps. Just the map on the timestamp. The *PAPER KIND* of a map. The vanilla *PAPER KIND* map of march ridge looks different.

No, he's right. Let me confirm, the map on the timestamp is the vanilla map that you can loot off zeds and such. It is entirely vanilla. It might look different if you are playing in a different country/language? But the map on this video is the annotated map in the vanilla game.

Yeah once you find an annotated map it'll spawn the maps event and loot

Not quite. After looking through the code for all these we've found that as soon as the map is loaded (And periodically through out the world's lifespan) the loot will be spawned in, and the annotated maps will begin to drop. You don't need the map or to have even seen the map for the loot to already be in the house. So in the chicken and the egg scenario, the EVENT is initialized first, then the maps will spawn.

Step 1. Launch PZ Step 2. Travel to the indicated building in MR. Step 3 check if there are an abnormal amount of guns in the kitchens. If not, go back to step one. Step 4. Loot all 4 floors. Step 5. Profit!

It's a military town. Not a university town. That's why it's boring, as it's not made to visit, it's made for military families to live off base. It's why it's got a military dorm, it's why there's security in and out, it's why you find military gear in closets, it's why every residential plot is nearly identical.

@@The-Backlog It's also very close to a military fort and is why I always have the Redstone mod on because it just makes more sense for March Ridge. I hope with the new map expansions that are coming out they do expand March Ridge a bit though.

In my years of running a KZfaq Channel I've found that if you hit the accent on the head you tend to insult that demographic, but if you come close and miss you insult everybody else BUT that demographic... this way I can successfully insult everybody at once. After all, fair is fair!

LOL, naw, there's still plenty of loot even in Insane Rarity. Though a lot less than what I found here. The only way it won't spawn a bunch of guns and ammo weapons and bags is if you set it to "NONE" ...I did check.

@@The-Backlog tbh it is one of the best starting locations, if you manage to clear out a neighborhood (aswell as use spawn mod to get there right off the bat). Its community center is the best place in the entire state to get all the books and magazines you ever need. And military apartment building is excellent. Even without stash it has a lot of weapons in closets, aswell as a few storage areas on 3-rd and 4-th floor. Its just too bad that March Ridge is so packed with zombies

It's not actually represented in the game, but in the real world March Ridge there's a military academy where the vast square of woods is in game.

from what i heard the reason why march ridge is so boring is because it was meant as a late game challenge zone like Louisville is today, they just never updated it after adding Louisville so now it's just boring and useless
