you can see an alternative evolution of Contra in the Game Gunstar Heroes. Enemies no longer poison to the touch, weapon combinations that evolve your firepower, Melee Attacks, throws, more action and enemies, more more more...

I understand that the release of this game takes place during the years of the Alien movies and yes I agree that the game play and storyline may follow those movies. There is zero chance that the creation of the two Contra characters aren't meant to be Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Nobody will convince me it's from the characters in the Aliens movies. Come on now the graphics say it all!

Started with Famiclones for me, my dad grabbing a Superjoy plug n play shaped like a 64 controller. Contra and Super C were my most played games on the various models I'd go through (due to the shoddy build quality). When I got into emulation in the XP era I tried Contra 3, and eventually got Operation C at a GameStop. These days I go for Super and Operation C the most.

For me personally, I don't like the soundtrack of Contra III, but I like the story, the action and gameplay of it.

I'm still blown away by the Gameboy version of Contra III! I'm impressed by the effort done to get it as close as possible to the SNES. Contra Advance also looks like a trip as a Contra III fan! Well done on this video! Worth the wait!

I love the Contra series and Contra, Super Contra and Contra III are some of my fav childhood games (I don't remember playing Hard Corps as a kid, but I watched a playthrough of it around 2016, and played it as an adult on the Contra Anniversary Collection for the PS4 around 2019. And it became my most beloved Contra game) :D

@@BurstError Yeah, the only word that fits that game is "frantic". It's bonkers and so much fun! I love the personality that it has, all the details and efforts in it and the absolute banging soundtrack!

First played Contra at a friends house as a kid. He had a little b&w tv in his room, sadly. But still had fun. Contra is a fun series, even if it can get challenging. I would often use the 30 lives code to make progress.

Something worth mentioning is there is also a hack for Hard Corps that lets you play every level in one playthrough. I prefer this because I can't remember what decisions to make to get every level so now I don't have to. It also makes a single playthrough around 90 minutes while all the previous Contras can be beaten in 30.

16:13 thankyou for giving Probotector a good shout out 👍, other Contra videos tend to not mention it's existence. I'm from the UK so growing up this is what I and many of us British/euro kids got, I personally prefer the robot aesthetic over the macho guys, but as kids we didn't know any better, to each their own.

Great video! I’m guessing that you and I are about the same age as the Nintendo version was also my introduction to the series. As much as I love this game, Super C, Operation C, and Contra III, my favorite is hands down Hard Corps Uprising for the Xbox 360. Had no idea there were any computer ports.

Yay new video! My brother when he was a small child in 2011 (I was 13) got one of those knockoff emulator games on the swap meet where there's over 80 NES games in them and we would have fond memories playing Super Contra.

Excited to hear yer thoughts on Contra 4. I’m no Contra aficionado but it’s my favorite of the ones I played. 3 might have it beat if it weren’t for the top down sections

Very well done! My favorite memories of Contra are watching other people play the games, because I don't attack agressively enough and suck at them. I'm so disappointed at the Amiga version. Surely that game must've been using only 10% of the Amiga Power™

There's even a romhack of Hard Corps that lets you choose from the original version and probotector characters. :D I never could get all the endings to that game originally, got so close though. >< A great way to end the 16bit generation.

You know, now that Operation Galuga is out, I hope we get a sequel that remakes and combines the Alien Wars and Hard Corps. The only thing I don't want in the sequel are the branching paths that Hard Corps had.

I didn't have Contra but my friend did. I think it was the game we played the most whenever we hung out, that and Double Dragon 2. One of my favorite multiplayer NES games. I wish we would have known about Super C. I would later play Hard Corp on the Genesis (rented) and that game kicked my butt good though on the Genesis I think I preferred Gunstar Heroes (hey, that was all ex Konami staff).

They're both Arnold pics neither one is Stallone in the box art. One is Arnold from Predator and the other is a shot of Arnold from Commando

Hard Corps, Alien Wars and Shattered Soldier are the holly trinity of Contra games. Recent Operation Galuga is not bad either, but the levels drag for way too long, platforming sections are pure cancer and art direction is just terrible.
