Got to give a dislike for showing English dub of the gamera movie

Weird ranking, but i guess from somebody who never played Pinball in real life. Psycho is objectively the best as it at least tries to be actual Pinball with believable tables and ball physics that again, at least try to be realistic. Devil's Crash is ok, but just like all the others suffers from extremely bad ball physics. Crue Ball is like the Wish version of this game and just bad all around, empty table, not a lot of ideas and you can tell the Mötley Crüe license was slapped on at the last second. Dragon's Revenge, you can tell it wasn't made by the same team as Devil's Crash and is mediocre at best. Sonic Spinball is crap. Dino Land is even worse and Virtual Pinball a rather pathetic attempt at a pinball editor. They aren't worth anybodys time.

Really can't stand what IGA did to this series. I get people love those games (and I do too, as it happens) but even he admitted he was fundamentally changing everything about Castlevania and what it was to suit what he wanted to make. And that's just it, you say the 64 Castlevania is an outlier, but it wasn't. Beyond the whole it being 3d thing, it's 100% in line with the original series. It's also the last ever bit of media, in any medium, to be made in the original style and idea of what Castlevania was. Everything about it, from it's gameplay ideas/focus, it's atmosphere, visual style, all of it is very reminiscent of the original trilogy (particularly the original game). Whereas SotN is nothing like those games. At all. Because it wasn't meant to be. It was a spin off title, that Konami didn't really care about, so they had total creative freedom to make it totally different. Yet somehow, SotN became the blueprint for almost all Castlevania media released since, whilst a game that actually resembles Castlevania is deemed an outlier. It's really pretty ridiculous. Talking about closed mindedness, the later reboots like Lords of Shadow and the Netflix show (which are both themselves very different from the original Castlevania titles) somehow get blasted for changing the lore or the style of the series when compared with the "source material". The source material people are referring to? The IGA era games that changed everything about Castlevania and didn't remotely resemble their source material. You couldn't make it up. It's just an utterly insane direction that this franchise went in. It's a real shame that the 64 titles ended up being the last breath of Castlevania before it's name got adopted by a series of reboots/soft reboots that weren't remotely interested in being what Castlevania was to begin with. (I like the IGA titles, LoS and the netflix show, but doesn't change the above at all)

Just who are you to call Seikima's demonic reality a fictional persona? I saw them in concert in 1989 and those beast creatures breathed fire.

I love the Contra series and Contra, Super Contra and Contra III are some of my fav childhood games (I don't remember playing Hard Corps as a kid, but I watched a playthrough of it around 2016, and played it as an adult on the Contra Anniversary Collection for the PS4 around 2019. And it became my most beloved Contra game) :D

Watermelon DO NOT finish games, or when they do, they might ship the game to you - or not. But they certainly will take your money. Absolutely not to be trusted. The ooze game loks awesome, a bit like a topdown version of Carrion (and much earlier).

I felt like Kong would win by virtue of it being more "true to kaiju" - surely, that must be a factor here. I mean, you don't even get to play as Gamera in _his_ game. That's kinda stinky, lol. I like this format and idea a whole lot and would love to see it return to the channel in some form. There really are a load of "Kaiju" and "Tokusatsu" inspired games out there and this would be a good way to highlight them gradually (rather than doing one of your awesome, signature "Every xxx game on the yyy" style videos) and it's fun to take stuff that has no business duking it out either because of genre differences or time period/platform differences, and arbitrarily declaring a winner, lol. Imagine taking Rampage and comparing it to City Shrouded in Shadow. Or Godzilla Domination GBA and pitting it against its blatant inspiration, the King of Monsters games? Kaiju Wars vs The Movie Monster Game for the C64? Throw in a few Ultraman fighting games versus stuff like OverRide 2 or Gigabash, or even dabbling in Earth Defense Force games versus Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Video Game? There's so much potential here - you could have a pretty interesting series, man. Even if this Kaiju Throwdown is a one-off, great work as always!

I find it interesting how the tone of the playlist changes and evolves. It starts nostalgic, wishful, and melancholic, but slowly evolves to become rather drab, tired, and weary. Then, at the end, starting by Solitude and Prayer, it shifts to become more hopeful and poised, to finally finish with the more assertive and inspiring Tree of Life. I don't know if that was the intent, but it feels like while much of the playlist reminds us of the joy of the past and the sorrow of being lost, it still encourages us to move toward the future instead of lamenting too much.

nice analysis :) I do try to inject some storytelling in the mix and track order.

R-type 1 was one of the first hucards (number 6 or 7?) and from interviews it was either compromise on the visuals/gameplay or release it in two episodes. The US version was launched later, when devs had more skills (and or maybe a bigger hucard).
