Again, I'd just like to add that this video exists to help improve the game by showing the developers the current issues with the game. I was not told by anyone that a Day 1 patch was coming, nor was I warned of any of these bugs beforehand. Here's hoping we see some improvements real soon.

I’ve seen a lot of people criticising this video on Twitter due to the fact that it’s a review copy, I legit have no clue as to why this is a problem for them. This video is meant to show underlying problems within the game for the development team to fix it in a day one patch or future updates yet people think he’s backstabbing sega for this I don’t get it.

I just find it hilarious that people are so nostalgia blind about this game, that they'll get upset and start attacking over someone showcasing the glitches in the game, just to show and let the developers know that they might need to fix these issues( or at least the major ones like the crashing) before launch. But if people want the SADX treatment, then so be it.

Its sad that i was only 3 minutes in and i was expecting the video to be nearly over.

Monkey Ball, a 20 year old franchise that has only has two good games, is getting a remake of the two good ones and is 60 FPS on every console. It was considered SEGA's most mistreated franchise and now is being treated with the upmost respect with a clean-looking and overall beautiful remake. Sonic the Hedgehog is SEGA's flag ship franchise and one of the most iconic gaming series of all time. Sonic has also been through hell and back and is still, to this day, given low-budget titles, games that feel too-safe and now, a remaster of an ELEVEN YEAR OLD GAME filled to the brim with glitches. Embarrassing.

I feel like the graphical errors (e.g. Culling, Pop-in, flickering, etc.) might have been caused by a similar reason to Sonic Heroes where they had a main development version (Gamecube for Sonic Heroes, & who knows for Colors Ultimate) & then ported that version over to the other consoles, which caused problems with different aspects. Either that or all versions have the same glitches.

It's crazy that this game has so many glitches prior to launch. I hope that Day 0 patch gets majority to all of these out cause this looks troublesome.

It feels like some of these, like the fast falling enemies and smoke effects, are down to the frame rate. I imagine a ton of processes were tied to the 30FPS framerate and doubling that has made a bunch of things go wrong. The smoke effects at 17:56 looked like they were playing at double speed. This is why tying processes to frame rates is a crutch. It's an easy way of making things work regularly on a timer, but if you want your product to last beyond the initial sales period it's a nightmare to untangle without just keeping the game at the framerate it was designed for.

Noticing more than one person mention that upping the frame rate to 60 could be causing some issues, but to that I say I have played Sonic Colors on Dolphin Emulator at 60fps, and aside from having to disable the 60fps in Aquarium Park act 1 due to Sonic sometimes clipping through the floor at the start with 60fps enabled, the game ran basically flawlessly, so no I don't think doubling the frame rate should've caused too many hard to fix bugs. Not to say it's impossible that it's the cause, but I don't think it's excusable when an unofficial emulator achieves the same thing as an official rerelease without these issues.

As a game developer, even though I didn't work on this game I can see very clearly some of the underlying issues that caused many of these bugs. If enough people ask I'll give my insight on what I can. It's certainly a lot of bugs, I'm not surprised they didn't all get fixed in a week. A video like this is incredibly helpful to a developer, so I hope they take a look and get rolling!

The fact this is over 20 minutes long worries me...

Given that this game runs just fine (excluding a few memorable spots like the start of Aquarium Park) on Dolphin at 60fps, I don't think upping the framerate is the primary culprit here. Now while I am a developer I'm not gonna pretend to be an expert on an engine I've never worked on, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. Most of this stuff, the overwhelming majority of it, seems to be the result of transparency or drawing issues, with the "flickering" not just of graphics in and out, but around things. The "smoke" looks to me like the effect of black, opaque transparency around renders (or of textures) being buggy and going on and off haphazardly. I don't know why it's the case, I can only guess that the team behind the remaster didn't understand the graphical engine enough to up this game's framerate properly, but failing transparency code would explain literally like, 80-90% of these bugs. That theory about the team's lack of understanding the graphical engine would also explain the crazy amount of pop in, even if it isn't transparency related (which it COULD be). The audio issues are all out of my wheelhouse to really examine. Now the point of all that? Really it all looks worse than it actually is. As far as I can tell none of these bugs are game breaking nor does the underlying game itself run badly. And tho I know people will, regardless, I don't think it's fair to compare this to the likes of 06 or Rise of Lyric. This can all be patched with relatively little work. But at the same time I don't blame anyone for going in on this game on those grounds, even if these things do get patched. Because this is a franchise, and a publisher, that really has no right to ask fans for forgiveness or leeway on quality control, after the likes of 06, Rise of Lyric, or even Forces, really.

Game is literally so broken that using colour powers, under water, specifically in game land, caused my GPU drivers to crash. 💀

For people complaining about glitches, don't forget this is early access. Most (If not, all) of these glitches will be fixed by the time the normal edition comes out via a Day 1 patch.

IGN are gonna love this game

Most of those aren't a big deal but come the heck on this is an enchanced version of a game that was released a dacade ago. You would think that since all they did was update the graphics and implemented few minor additions the game would release glitch free but no it wouldn't be 2021 if a game released glitch free now would it?

A big problem is that while the game isn't officially released, lots of people (maybe even most) are getting it early because of a pre-order early access bonus. This game should be ready for those people playing, otherwise they're using people to be late beta testers for bugs, and charging them for it too! Lots of people pre-order now, so that's a huge portion of people who'll be playing the game in this state. The way I see it, I don't think they care much about quality control.

Okay, I’m not trying to get on any of the devs here but I’m sorry, they should’ve got Sonic Team to work on this instead of Blind Squirrel. I know Sonic Team is working on the supposed Sonic Rangers, but if that had to be delayed just to get the original devs that worked on the Wii original to give this game the solid remaster it deserves, I would’ve been up for that. Y’see, I’m mainly talking about recent complaints within the Switch version, all here in this video is passable because it’s to give people the game to try it and point out flaws to fix later. Sonic Team knew what they were doing with the Wiis hardware to make it the best as possible and SEGA themselves too also have this quality (example: Tokyo 2020). Blind Squirrel doesn’t have this quality because they don’t have as much experience working on Nintendo hardware as much as Sonic Team or SEGA.
