Funnily enough, The manga exclusive arcs (Dark Continent and Succession War) are probably my favorite arcs. As we've mostly been with Gon and Killua up to that point, The story is even more interesting to me without them as we get more information and lore on the world and get to focus more on "top-tiers" in the verse like Beyond, Ging, Pariston, illumi, Chrollo, Hisoka and so on. Especially with the succession war and how many different factors play into it, I'm really excited to see how Togashi goes about it and then you have arriving to the dark continent and what'll happen there. Just so many possibilities and so much potential. One of my favorite things about HxH is that I still have just as much entertainment or even more when the main character(s) aren't the focal point of an arc.

I like the inclusion of other hunters like Melody, Basho and Hanzo in the Succession arc. This arc is actually so insane for housing almost all the hunters and nen users we know except for Killua and Gon!

Nice review. Thanks for giving Greed Island a fair review. It’s one of the most enjoyable arcs in HxH for me. I notice though that a lot of people forget that the Chairman Election Arc contains the episode where Gon finally achieved his goal of meeting his father.

I think the reason why Killua wasn't introduced to Nen earlier is simply because his family didn't feel like the time was right. He was still really young and I think they wanted to have a firmer grip on his mental and emotional states before teaching him nen, just incase he wanted to run away or rebel

The current arc is quite possibly my fav arc (need to see how it finishes). Aside from JJK's recent-ish Maki chapters, it is the 1st time in a long while where I legitimately got addicted to reading. Aside from that, York New > Chimera. Although you did almost pull me to the Chimera side. Very easy to sell it as a perfect arc. Even though I disagree with a lot of placements, loved the video

The Succession Arc somewhat reminds me of the Arc in Uncanny X-Men where they faced mutants underground. The individual side characters appear to be weak but they find strength in numbers and association.

Great list, if I had to rank the arcs from favorite to least favorite, it'd probably be: Chimera Ant, Greed Island, Chairman Election, Phantom Troupe, Succession War, Hunter Exam, Heaven's Arena, Zoldyck Arc, and then the Dark Continent. I really appreciate the ranking for GI that you have too because, for most people, it's one of their least favorite arcs. I was absolutely in love with it though from start to finish. Also on the Succession War, it probably has my favorite setup to any HxH arc ever. And I was absolutely in LOVE with the early setup to the CAA so I'm really excited for what's to come in this current arc

I’ve heard a lot of criticism for the pacing of the HxH manga but for the anime the pacing for HxH 2011 is amazing. We’re never stuck in an area, dilemma, arc for too long. Sure the Chimera Ant Arc was 61 episodes; but that jumped from the NGL to the eastern city, back to the NGL, to that palace. It never felt stagnant. And fights never go over 2-3 episodes. It’s so refreshing. I just love Hunter X Hunter. Even more than One Piece, which was my all time favorite. But HxH removes all those tropes in One Piece that really annoy me and leaves an amazing, interesting, fun story. And the solutions characters come up with are so outside the box. Like when Killua ends his fight with Palm by apologizing. That was so emotional. Way better outcome than any fight could have produced. And there are so many moments like that where they move the story on by doing things not expected in an anime/manga. It’s just so original and refreshing for the medium. I just love it. Can’t wait to see where we go from here.

Succesion war is already top 3 arc, with the best buildup of any Arc (if we ranked Chimera ant buildup for example it would probably be my least fav arc, and we all can see how good it is ranked now after it ended). So if it finishes and Togashi hits the plot points is going to be easily the best arc in the series

Honestly, I didn’t like the Succession War when I first read it either, so I’m not here to berate you or convince you to like it. But honestly, if Togashi ever finishes it, it’s shaping up to be my favorite arc. Togashi is just throwing all his creativity at the wall with the different Nen beasts here and then we have Kurapika and The Phantom Troupe eventually coming in contact, and then Hisoka. And I really like the princes, I think Togashi did a great job of characterizing them. And if that head that Tserriednich has is Pairo’s….. Fuck, I need Togashi to come back. I hope he’s okay.

Hunter X Hunter and Jojo's are my favorite anime/manga of all time, watching through hxh was so great togashi can write such good characters and storylines when he feels like it, the phantom troupe and the chimera ant arc were so awesome to watch i just had to see more episodes I even love the dark continent stuff and succession war in the manga even though its all words and way too many new characters, it sucks the manga isnt consistent

The Chimera Ant arc should've start slowly (I don't have issues with the pacing whatsoever) 1 it established Gon and Killua relationship 2 had awesome build-up of Meruem Pouf Colt Morel Knuckle Netero Kite Komugi as characters 3 seeing the other side(darker side) of Gon him literally becoming a murderer(that fight was a massacre and shows how far Gon will be willing to go to achieve something) while Pitou became more human after she was entrusted to heal Komugi 4 expand more about Nen as a power system 5 build Meruem as this more compelling complex character that has sympathy towards humans although he started as a murderer...his relationship with Komugi (same as his battle vs Netero) has been really good to his development and added more layers to him Also the slow start really was good once the pace ramped up in the 2nd part of the arc with all of this emotional weight of characters like Gon, Killua, Knuckle, Meruem, Pitou, Netero, Pouf, and other characters In my opinion it's the best Hunter x Hunter arc with York New being the 2nd best ... I don't remember a lot of arc that i can say(subjectively) are better or near this level

I think it's more enjoyable that you get to see the nen use in the zoldyk arc without knowing about it since when you understand nen is makes more sense and adds that wow factor which then gets explained.

I've seen almost every single movie and tv show since around 1985 to around 2015, i've read hundreds of fantasy books, read thousands of comics, read tens of thousands of manga, and out of them all Togashi is the only author in existence that is actually pulling off a so-called 'battle-royale'. Hundreds of authors/directors have tried something like this and they've all failed miserably because what Togashi is doing is insanely difficult to pull off. For perspective its like if George RR Martin put every major character in game of thrones on a massive ship, and then had them all fight to the death to figure out who would be king while also incorporating the underworld, the legitimate rulers of GRR Martins world (aka the top hunters), an expedition of an unknown land, and all within the realms of the best battle system in existence aka nen (Togashi made it to be as similar to real life as possible...). He's above genius level. One of these days Ill make videos explaining how HxH is actually legitimately real life. Togashi was interviewed about how he came up with nen back in 2004-06 i forget the exact date, you gotta use the wayback machine to fine the interview on an obscure japaneses blog, but Togashi is asked how he came dup with the 'nen battle system' and Togashi responds, 'i just made my battle system as close to actual reality as possible' or something along those lines. King, reread HxH as if its real life and its how the top 1000 or so humans on the entire planet operate. HxH is the universal conspiracy theory in plain sight, not 'hidden in plain sight', its just 'in plain sight', reread it as if its how the rulers of earth operate. Dark continent is space. Ill eventually write an article or do a video explaining how insnaely similar HxH is to real life. Togashi is a league above my friend

Ima defend genthru a bit here. Greed island is a very low stakes arc yet we still got a villain like razor in it. Imo genthru serves his purpose fully in the arc. He has the typical bad guy personality and this simplicity is perfect for a training arc. Gon simply had to overcome genthru and beat his ass no other way around it. The purpose of the greed island arc was obviously: 1.)For gon and killua to ower up 2.)Learn more about nen (especially the nen exorcists and how nen is stronger after death.) 3.)set up the next arc.

Funny how hunter x hunter is officially one of the best animes that has one of the most famous and beloved charachters in Anime while the story isnt even on 20%. It's rivals animes like naruto, bleach, one piece and that all with just 20% of its story

Some people might preffer Chimera Ant in the Manga because the Narrator is heavyly diskiled by the vast mayority..... myself included. I haven't finished the manga yet (i'm on Heaven's Arena) but i keep hearing nothing but fantastic things about Dark Continental & Succession War Arcs. I'll give you my list: 1. Chimera Ant 2. Yorknew City 3. 13th Chairman Election 4. Heaven's Arena 5. Greed Island 6. Hunter Exam 7. Zoldyck Family All of them are amazing, i feel like the 1999 Anime adapted the Hunter Exam & Zoldick Family Arcs waaaay better; awesome in Heaven's Arena (but not as much as the 2011Remake) and an equal spectacular Adaptation from both Nippon Animation & Madhouse for the Yorknew City Arc. Nippon Animation did a spectacular portration of Kurapika throughout the whole series and Madhouse portrayed the Phantom Troupe better. Till this day i point out Heaven's Arena as the most Underrated Arc in the series, by just mentioning how the Arc focuses only in Gon & Killua and introduced the Nen Power System; it's enough quite telling on how the rest of the series would be. Hisoka vs Gon was Fantastic; Gon paying Hisoka back but Hisoka still being the victorious one with the Phantoum Troupe (well just Machi) being recently introduced; tells you how important the set of events would be. PS: I can't name Dark Continent non Succession War Arc in my top list, since i haven't reach them yet.

The greed Island Arc feels like a Famous Author who began writing about his affair with her philippine underage wife that she used to process his middle-age crisis. But instead of the wife is about card games and otaku subjects. It is a nice arc, but he developed the game mechanics too much when nobody cared and would not be used later.

It might just be being a manga reader primarily (sorry, I couldn't get into the anime because it looked so f*cking disgusting), but I honestly don't get a lot of your complaints for the arcs you don't like because... this is Hunter X Hunter! Introducing a plethora of new characters at odd moments in time is just what Togahsi does, and in my opinion he's handling it way better in The Succession War Arc than in Chimera Ant.

Comparing the Chimera Ant arc's pacing to One Piece's pacing has no relevance. That's like saying "yeah this fruit might be bitter, but this other fruit is even more bitter so it's okay." That's subjective reasoning. All you have to do is compare the CA arc to the other arcs in HxH to see that the pacing is a lot worse. Btw I'm not trying to tear you down. I think your videos are good, but just want to give some constructive criticism for future ones.

Chimaera ant ark was dragged on too long and lost my interest. A lot of time was just waiting around and expo dump

I never really understood the yorknew hype, easily my least favorite arc of the entire anime and one of my least favorite in all of anime despite there being a really good middle section and introducing the best character in the series (chrollo) the writing felt so inconsistent with many holes that was just too jarring
