22 nations that either have a strong enough fighting heritage in MMA to include, or they just seemed too big to leave off.
We’re going to look at the nation each fighter has chosen to represent primarily - so guys who have several nationalities either through their place of birth or parents, will be whittled down to one nation of eligibility.
Some country’s that just didn’t produce enough great talents were left off - especially if the MMA scene there produced their one star as an outlier.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s get into it!

greatest and best are 2 different things, considering fedors resume, its insane to put khabib over him. khabib just retired too early and didnt do enough, especially when compared to fedors legacy and longevity

Kamaru should have got the nod over Izzy. Usman had better and more convincing title defenses. He was pound for pound the greatest at one point. Izzy never had that distinction.

idk to be fair usman only defended it against 3 people. izzy was boring but he truly did clean the top contenders out until sean beat him

@@MTBJJ2001 fair point. But when you think of who the better mixed martial artist is, I think Usman is the better overall fighter. Izzy fought more guys sure. But he ran away from Romero and arguably lost the second Whittaker fight. He partially "cleared" the division through simple luck of the judges score cards at times.

Very crisp list. I'm not putting anyone ahead of Fedor out of Russia though, like you said, he did it at heavyweight over a decade. In his prime that man couldn't lose, khabib arguably lost against Gleison Tibau regardless of the judges horrible judging, we can't forget that fight happened. If khabib would have kept fighting, age and the sport would have caught up to him like it does every fighter. This is such a sweet list regardless. Never seen it done like this.

Yeah, Khabib got himself out of real GOAT debates by retiring too early, same reason why Magic Johnson is never considered in basketball or R9 In soccer

@@akindtroll28 key word in his prime, his prime lasted till he was in his mid 20’s. Khabib had a short stint at the top of the sport, so can’t be considered the goat, for the very same reason why R9 can’t, prime for prime he might be better than everyone ever (arguably), but putting accolades sides by side (accolades usually get boosted by longevity) he simply pales in comparison to Messi, same way in which Jon Jones and even Fedor make Khabib look human. Typical Brit “chatting shit” without even giving what anyone else said a thought.

Fedor fought in pride which was known to fix fights, so the credibility of his wins are in question.

I think Jose Aldo is the best brazillian fighter personally. Silvas prime was legendary, but Aldo stayed in title contention and in top form much longer than Silva. Silva was losing to Uriah hall where as Aldo only lost to champs like petr yan, volkanovski or number 1 contenders. Him being able to piece up ppl like rob font and chito Vera in a lower division is really overlooked.

There was a fighter in the early 2000s that was from Greece or Australia or somewhere in between with a crazy last name, and cannot remember it for the life of me. I think he had big ears, and he was kinda tan. Fought at either lightweight or welterweight I think. Lil help?

I agree with all but one pick, Israel walks out with the NZ flag, lives and trains in NZ whereas Usman at the very least has Nigeria as his flag in all MMA content. Not only that, he was #1 P4P

I'd give Kamaru the nod over Izzy to be honest, he's the more complete fighter and in my opinion they they ever fought Kamaru would win and it wouldn't be close

Completely disagree. Izzy is just too big and long for Kamaru and Kamaru's smothering wrestling style wouldn't work against Izzy because Izzy has a strong clinch game and outstanding TDD against the fence, which is where Kamaru historically gets his takedowns. You saw in the Leon trilogy that he neutralized Kamaru's wrestling by isolating the hands, and Kamaru's lack of BJJ worked against him when he did get Leon down. It'd be the same problem against Izzy, just far worse. I haven't even gotten to the difference in striking skill. I know Sean shutdown Izzy but that doesn't mean everyone can just replicate what Sean did to Izzy, what Sean did was solely down to his uniquely awkward style. Unlike Sean, Kamaru can't exchange, he doesn't check leg kicks at all, his defense is lacking and he gets VERY sloppy when throwing looping punches. Izzy would pick him apart at distance.

@@madgavin7568 Izzy does not have 'Outstanding TDD' there is not one elite wrestler in the top 5 nor has he fought one since before he was champion (K.G) Kamaru fought WAY WAY harder competition and Izzy would not have anything for Kamaru's style of fighting way too much pressure for Izzy to handle Kamaru would finish him before the championship rounds no doubt in my mind

@@NFAIVIOUS You didn't base your response on any facts, just opinionated bullshit. Kamaru's pressure won't work against Izzy because he doesn't have good striking defense, and his reactions to getting hit are dreadful. If Kamaru struggles to get Leon down, he's not getting Izzy down and even if he does, he's not controlling him because Izzy is too tall and slick. Quit the recency bias and admit weight-classes exist for a reason.

Khabib has maybe, MAYBE 8 relevant fighters on his resume. Conor, Dustin, Justin, RDA, Barboza, Johnson, Tibau, Iaquinta. You're stretching the world relevant by including Al and Tibau. Fedor beat more champions than that, never mind other quality opposition. At HW. It's a fucking insult to pick Khabib over him. Straight up lunacy.

and he lost way more than that, khabib is considered better not because of the fighters he fought, but because of his performance, he has the most 8-10s in ufc, and almost 3 fights in a row of only 8-10, dominant against some of the best lightweights, didnt get caught for steroids, never bled or got knocked down and the unbeaten record. all these little factors add up pretty well to call him the russian goat at the moment, but islam might pass him soon if he keeps going
