I cannot thank you enough for the time spent and for the "bodily harm" that you probably caused on your wrist, that high torque was really shaking in the final tests hahaha Really interesting to see the gen2 losing on performance, also curious how the 10" made the performance between the first 4 (excluding gen2) seem really similar. The adapter stacking and "long range" dust blower are the perfect kind of bonus content, really fits the vibe of the channel

Awesome. I've always wanted to see a driver vs wrench vid. Lots of people froth over whatever the most powerful impact driver is when they should just be using an impact wrench. My preference is a hydraulic impact for anything under 14G (~6mm) and then a wrench for everything else.

For Makita Impact wrenches, any comments in regards to friction ring Vs. Pin detent? I've seen videos that describe the friction ring causing issues where they won't hold sockets anymore, and notice it lacks a rubber O ring. At the same time I've seen people claim Makita's pin detent is different than other brands (eg, Milwaukee) and is actually just as easy to remove as the Friction ring. I'm trying to decide for the compact impact wrench (XWT14 Vs. XWT15 in the states). Thanks!

Makita impact drivers/wrenches are like golf clubs or fishing gear, for that matter, the right one is just better to use. Scaffolders would love those low torque 1/2 drive wrenches, with the pin to stop the socket from accidently coming off, especially at height.

Those adaptors reduce torque by quite a bit (Torque Test Channel shows this often), reason being the peak of the impact on the hammer does not occur when the bit is seated. The more of these you add (adaptors, bit holders etc.) the worse it gets.
@whirled_peas
@whirled_peas Жыл бұрын
The test with a bunch of adaptors strung together isn't representative since it didn't impact for 2/3rd of the depth. Plus the negative effect of adaptors increases considerably the closer you get to the limit.

The pin detent model you have doesn’t require nail or similar to push the pin in. Its the weak/soft pin, the pin goes to a point, you should be able to pull the socket off by hand. Makita do offer 2 pins, a soft and hard pin. The hard pin requires a nail to push the pin in to remove the socket. From factory the pin detent models come with a soft pin installed.

I changed my pin over to the stronger pin and it’s get annoying. Apparently the weaker pin get a lot of complaints because socket fall off easily, I experienced this too. Some brand sockets just fall, one of the reasons I changed my pin.

You can use the standard shafts in the Japanese Makitas, you’ll just get a bit more movement front to back, which is pretty irrelevant to function. When the second gen comes to the States or Europe, you’ll be able to retrofit if that play bothers you, but I doubt you can buy the collet assembly yet.

The mid and high-torque are more for loosening right-hand threads. Driving screws with those shows that the low-torque (which likely has the same drivetrain as the impact drivers) is going to be better in the fastening direction.
@reaperreaper5098
@reaperreaper5098 Жыл бұрын
The compact wrench isn’t running the same internals as the drivers, and IIRC, TTC proved that the Makita 40V compact is pretty competitive with some of the smaller mid torque offerings when it comes to hard torque. It’s likely just that the higher IPM/RPM of the drivers make up for any torque descrepencies in wood, with the ‘smaller’ fasteners.

Milwaukee includes the T-50 in a lot of their bit kits. They have a bit kit in Home Depot that’s part of the holiday buys this year. Not sure about other countries but here in the States the T-50 is not uncommon as it once was

Looks like Makita's engineers have a good understanding of what it takes to drive screws vs setting and loosening nuts. The drivers punch well above their torque rating (as well as scale...) weight. There is likely very rapidly demising returns to distance driven per hit, from increasing anvil weight beyond fairly light, when driving into wood. It's not _that_ hard to just "bust" the stuck screw loose again, compared to a rusty nut. But once that initial busting loose is done, the heavier anvil doesn't move the screw all that much further before friction again renders it "stuck". So you're better off with a faster rate of more moderately sized blows. As opposed to for a tough nut, where it's all about the max peak force of a single impact, since once the nut is loose, it's loose. And no rate of smaller hits, will ever bust it loose, if it's stuck hard enough. Something like the bigger motor of the big wrench, combined with a lighter, faster hitting anvil assembly, would likely be the optimal for driving big screws at some useful rate, if one for some reason had to do so without drilling a pilot hole.

I'm a long-time Makita fan, invested in LXT, and feel cheated when Makita came out with XGT. But those XGT batteries look ridiculous on a small impact, hence I went with Milwaukee. Sold most of my LXT and got the M18 and M12 platforms. I only invested in a High Output battery, the HO3.0 on M18 impact looks and feel very nice.
