My most favourite is ' The Irishman '. No, it wasn't slow at all. And I don't think majority of the cinema lover will actually find it boring. It also wouldn't have got the lebel ' slow ' if it wasn't released in the scorsese vs avengers time. Some avengers fans then started to say that it was boring. Also i think, if they would find any scorsese cinema boring. That's why majority of the rankings I've watched actually put this in top 5 or 10. I mean, it's a 60 years story, definitely it will take time. But those time flowed in speed of light. Also, another reason can be that many people won't like it because it's a very very political cinema. Which is not many peoples cup of tea.

Scorsese is my favourite movie director, and therefore, for me is very difficult to choose his best five or ten movies. I actually believe that he has at least ten masterpieces. Probably my favourite movie of all time is Taxi Driver. A tale about an average Joe, and his descent into hell. We all have some level of Travis Bickle in us. Anyway, grear video about the master.

Great list overall, but I do have one quibble: New York, New York (1977) is credited solely to Scorsese. I think you might have gotten it confused with New York Stories (1989), which is a 3-part anthology film with shorts by Scorsese, Woody Allen, and Francis Ford Coppola. In all honesty it would probably end up towards the bottom of the list, but I still felt an admittedly pedantic need to point this out. Anyway, here's my top 5: 1.) Goodfellas 2.) After Hours 3.) The Age of Innocence 4.) The Irishman 5.) Last Temptation of Christ

The Departed: Some memorable scenes in the first hour (!), but the script is a plane taxiing around on a runway and never takes off. Gangs of New York: A parody of those wig and powder movies from emperor's France. Hard to take seriously. The Irishman: Unintentionally funny casting 80 year olds and AI'ing them into a three hour long non scippable video game cutscene. The scenes in the nursing home seem to be shot for a De Niro documentary project. A stale movie.

Brilliant. Sezzy is very detailed in framing and doesn't over embellish to display the contrasts and harmonies. The departed was a great story to begin with but there was something rushed about it being my only complaint. Excellent exoposition and study of the canon of scorcesse. I forgot that the irishman was the worst casting... i.e giving his mates a job at the expense of the film. "The Last Temptation of Christ" is a historical novel written by Nikos Kazantzakis, first published in 1955 and first published in English in 1960.2 It is a monumental reinterpretation of the Gospels that depicts Christ as divine but very human.1 The book has been hailed as a masterpiece by critics worldwide and has been adapted into a major motion picture.0 The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church in Athens wanted the book banned in Greece, stating that it perverts and hurts the Gospel discernment and the God-man figure of Jesus Christ in a coarse, vulgar, and blasphemous way.2 Critics praise the book for its bold subject matter and complex characterization

What about The Last Waltz from 1976 ? The Band's final concert from San Francisco where the cream of the Rock world were on stage to pay their respects ,all directed by Martin Scorsese . It's been described as the finest Rock documentary ever filmed ,right up to the present day ! This was also the beginning of the recently late Robbie Robertson and Mr Scorsese 's wonderful working relationship and friendship . Robbie scored the music for most of the movies on your list .... Yes sir , The Last Waltz .....

As I point out in the beginning, this list only covers his narrative fiction feature films. The Last Waltz is a movie I’m quite familiar with and like a great deal, and I agree it’s one of the best concert films ever made. Including his concert films and documentaries would have made the list far more complicated to rank for me.

I think Scorsese made 3 'absolute masterpiece'. Those are Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull. I would not rank them because they are different movies. I don't know how to explain it. Whole thing, every detail works for me in this movies. It is like you watch it and say this thing is great then another thing comes out and that is also great. It is like every part is great and at the end you just say 'fuck the details. let me watch this movie and enjoy every moment of it while I can.' This is how I would describe 'absolute masterpiece'. Also if I see those movies are favorite movies of a great director, it feels like a double-check. It is of course subjective but when I see Raging Bull at 12 I feel that is wrong. For me saying Silence over Raging Bull is something like saying Joe Pesci is more handsome than Brad Pitt. I don't know how to explain it. It is art and there is both subjective and objective things in it but I don't know where the objectivity ends/starts and subjectivity starts/ends. What movies are 'absolute masterpiece' for you?

Cape Fear is a fun movie for what it is, but it still pales compared to the original. You can see how Robert Mitchum’s Max Cady could get close to the women he harmed. DeNiro’s Cady was just too scuzzy for that to be believable. It was almost like he was made up to be just a few steps back from a slasher movie villain. Although I think I read that Scorsese only made the movie out of obligation to Universal after they financed Last Temptation of Christ.
