Finished watching the video. I'll give Demolition a shot, and yes the Vigilante 8 games are sweet. I've always found them as well as Rogue Trip to be superior to the Twisted Metal games.

Thok apparently was one of the guards seen in background in episode VI movie. Later Dark Forces saga gave him some backstory and they brought the dude to this game. He also had something to do with capturing Rancor. Hoar is pretty irrelevant force sensitive tusken that has some connections to Anakin (he tried to save his mother from tusken warriors, slaughtered whole village, Hoar survived only because he wasn't present at the time but learned this when he found Anakins lightsaber and saw visions).

Might be worth noting that, nowadays, there is a reverse-engineered recreation of Dark Forces for modern computers called The Force Engine. It is by far the best way to play the game today, comparable with Doom, Duke Nukem 3D or Marathon source ports.

I love this video! Thank you so much for having me be a part of it! Even if I had to play Jedi Power Battles! Also, Dark Forces PS1 has a special place in my heart. I was a huge Star Wars nerd in the '90s, but didn't have a PC proper - Shadows of the Empire N64 and Dark Forces PS1 were how I got my late '90s Star Wars video game fix. The choppiness in Dark Forces isn't an issue - it's a feature! It allows you more time to aim! Right? Right?! (I know I'm deluding myself, but let me have this...) Also also, seeing this video got me thinking... I swear there was talk of a PS1 port of the N64 game Battle for Naboo (essentially the Ep I Rogue Squadron game) that was cancelled in development, but I cannot find any info on it on the internet as of now. Does anyone else remember this? Am I just imagining it? Lastly, if people cannot get enough of Sean talking about The Phantom menace, here's the link to the other video where he does so! :-D kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sN6boZN7rte4f5s.html

Just realised I should added the link to thst video too haha. I'll get that into the discription :) I never knew of any ports of Naboo to PS1 but the PlayStation really could have benefited from at least one of the flight games. The N64 games are still a ton of fun.

@@SeanSeanson You know what? I think I was thinking of Episode I Racer, which was in the process of being ported to the PS1, but was cancelled - I'm assuming because the PS2 was coming out/had already come out. That, I was able to find info on, so I was likely just confusing the two.

Makopowered Gaming's section is pretty messy; he initially talks about the gameplay in an over-elaborated/expressed way from a biased stance, and then he doesn't even talk about the rest of the game to just talk about the 'moral' scoring and some trivia. Like... What about the boss designs and deeper overall level design? What about the visuals for example? How about talking briefly about the game on other platforms? How about co-op? Oddly just rage-quitted. I mention this because, despite the bugs, there are quite a number of other reviewers that looked/rated at the game more positively, especially when talking about these points. Plus, Mako's review is really different from your reviews, Sean, that are often straight-to-the-point, thorough, effective and necessarily-expressed. Otherwise, It's a great video! Thank you! :D

I freaking preordered phantom menace for PS1 as an overenthusiastic 13yo with a limited budget, I was determined to like and beat that thing. The most espa level was easily the best part, massive environment with heaps of exploration and multiple options to complete the objectives. Escorting the Queen that constantly walked right into the line of fire nearly broke me. Also wasn't there a ps1 port of episode 1 racer?

So, in regards to lightsaber colors: red being exclusive to Sith wasn't actually fully established until Attack of the Clones came out, and similarly Jedi saber colors weren't constrained to mostly blue and green until then either. Before then, Phantom Menace tie-in media would give Jedi all kinds of saber colors, red and yellow and orange and so on. This got clamped down on by Lucas, along with similar retcons in regard to Jedi romance; up until AotC, you had all kinds of stories about Jedis falling in love and having outright dynasties, which then all had to be explained away after the "no attachments" rule was firmly established by Lucas. There, enjoy your nerdass lore facts for the day.
@zeroattentiongaming820
@zeroattentiongaming820 7 ай бұрын
While it wasn't the first saber she used, the first one Leia owned in Legends was a red bladed saber that Luke made for her while she was the Chief of State of the New Republic. So we had a Skywalker with a red lightsaber running the galaxy and that was a good thing despite how that sounds without context

Honestly I've had far too little experience with SW games in general, to the point that the only ones I've touched were a demo of Star Wars: Tekken (Seriously calling it Teras Kasai is like calling a Star Wars-esque movie Space Fight: The Amenaza Fantasma) and a bit of my young cousin's Power Battles years ago. That said, seeing that Demolition footage kinda takes me back since I recognized some of the reused assets from Vigilante 8.

Over the course of a weekend where I rented the game, I finished the whole thing and still have a fond memory of the experience to this day. While I like the video overall, I really can’t get behind the idea of Power Battles being “better” than TPM. It’s also worth noting the PC port of TPM has several alternate camera angles and a rebalanced lightsaber available via console commands. The game was rushed to market faster than they wanted - it even had finished multiplayer maps that were sadly never used. The camera was forced to top down by Lucas Arts, who inexplicably thought they couldn’t release two games with the same camera angle at one time - what with Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II releasing around the same time. With the codes applied, the PC version demonstrates that it was more publisher meddling than anything that caused the majority of the issues for the dev team. By contrast, the only nice thing I can say about Power Battles is that the GameBoy adaptation plays a bit better and ironically has less janky controls. Not much, but at least it’s something. Also, *puts on Star Wars nerd glasses* Tear-azz Kazz-EE. Plo KOON Mace Windu was always supposed to have a blue saber. It was Samuel L. Jackson who insisted on it being purple later on. Red sabers weren’t actually exclusive to Sith until the canon reset by Disney. Several Jedi did wield red sabers, even though the Sith eventually made this more taboo. It’s because crystals used to be more than just Kyber, but a whole gamut of crystal types with different effects. One of the most famous being a dark red-orange one that ironically would disengage and refuse to light if you fell to the Darkside. *Puts SW nerd glasses away* Solid video overall, but figured worth commenting.

Would you ever do other consoles /systems?

Yes, almost definately. Only thing holding me back is the amount of free time I have, but if the channel keeps growing and I can look at investing into it more seriously, I'd love to cover more consoles.

I had Dark Forces, besides Wolfenstein3D it was my first FPS especially my first console FPS. I loved it and it was cool to see a 1 to 1 port of the PC game even if it had some problems. Kid me didn't care about framerate. I also had Masters of Teras Kasi. People like to pretend like it's *The Worst* fighting game ever but I was able to have fun with it. It had a lot of flaws but it definitely wasn't the worst. IMO Han Solo was the best OP character and somehow I was able to unlock all the extra characters (except for metal bikini Leia). I have a great story about Teras Kasi. My sister was the real Star Wars fan and her favorite character was Leia, she also loved pro wrestling. I was egging her on by beating the absolute shit out of Leia with Thok when she jumped on my bad and literally body slammed me. It hurt. It hurt a lot.

honestly, the phantom menace is my fav star wars game ever. is it better than Kotor? not at all. Kotor is the best in the franchise, and Kotor 2 might be better than Kotor 1 depending on one's preferences and the impact its narrative had on you. are there better games in the series than phantom menace? yes! but phantom menace is endearing, has crazy game design and interactive mechanics that virtually no console game had on offer in the 5th gen, and that hold up remarkably better to modern standards than most of the 5th gen's console titles do, and is really a good game that nearly anyone can enjoy so long as one goes in with a willingness to learn how to play it

Weird? I remember hearing there is a bug that keeps you from beating the game. It's on the level where you are piloting the Millennium Falcon. I know from personal experience both my copies crash at the same place on there. Perhaps it's just the North American version?

For playing the DOS version of Dark Forces, get a version of DOSBox with save states (Daum SVN is one) and it's like having quicksave and quickload. Just remember that loading a save state will reset EVERYTHING, not just your level progress. Also get GlovePIE and you can use the mouse for looking up and down. It's not quite full mouselook, but it's not too bad once you get used to it. Finally, get OverlayXHair to put a crosshair in the center of the screen. Set DOSBox to use the Desktop resolution, or the res change will wipe out the crosshair.

A coverage of PS1 Nickelodeon games is regretful entertainment waiting to happen, lol. To my knowledge, only two of them are of a solid quality; that being the two Rugrats games by N-Space. And speaking of Rugrats, the Paris game, especially on Very Hard Mode, is one of the handle of games I've played that put me in a mentally unhealthy state. How does a video game aimed at toddlers manage to be both overly bare bones and boring, and also rage-quitting levels of frustrating? Such a poorly designed cash-in to an otherwise really good film that's pretty much the apex of the program.

I've fond memories of the first Rugrats game, every Nickleodeon game beyond that would be brand new to me. So if it ever does happen it'll be an interesting journey im sure :)

@@SeanSeanson Ah, you haven't played Rugrats: Studio Tour yet. It's basically more of Search for Reptar, but with extra gameplay variety, more polished presentation, superior framerate, and has Susie as part of the playable roster in the main game. A quality children's game, even though it doesn't hold my attention for long.
