The Tau were better when they were unobjectively good. Being the tiny spark of hope that good still existed on a mass scale made the setting more grimdark. But, alas, this is Warhammer, where subtlety goes to die.

Because the writers need remind us that no matter how garbage tier Lucius is, he cannot die. For f*s sake he resurrected through the body of the guy who manufactured the landmine that killed him. Hypothetically, if you killed him then yourself then the poor bastard who made the weapon would die instead. Never mind that he has been killed before by a guy who held nothing but pure contempt for him. Regarded him as less than nothing. And he resurrected because of course he did. Though to be fair, if memory servers that was his first death.

That would be a great alternate ending, like a reverse Ultron. After flying off SoE jumps to the Warp, encounters Chaos and eventually learns about the Emperor. It then jumps right back to the Imperials and says "never mind what I said earlier, I get it now. For the Emperor!!"

honestly I feel like they make chaos marines less durable than they should be. Especially Abbadon the despoiler. He could probably still fight through wounds if he had some slaaneshi/nurglite help (which yes he does get help from all four often).

The Tau’s long range hit and run tactics are a near perfect counter to nurgle I also imagine battle suits are a greater protector against disease

Even in the tabletop the incredible firepower of Tau guns tends to nullify the added durability Nurgle corruption gives you. Yeah they don't go down as easily as Imperium troops against Tau guns but the Tau do a respectable job at killing Nurgle units.

I remember the White Dwarf where Eldred kills Abaddon, however, they did mention they had to play the game multiple times to get this to happen, most of the time Eldred got wrecked.

There's a great example of Dark Eldar teaching the Alpha Legion who are truly the masters of ambush and misdirection. It starts the Alpha Legion patting themselves on the back, thinking they're the bee's knees after hitting a Dark Eldar raid. It ends with the Alpha Legion Lord's limbless, impaled body roaring and flailing within Vect's palace - solely for his amusement.

Here's some to consider: What if all of the Primarchs (save Alpharius because he landed on Terra) somehow died before the Imperium discovered them? If any one Loyalist and Traitor Primarch switched sides for the Horus Heresy, who would you choose for the best outcome for either the Loyalists, or the Traitors? What if the Silent King never got rid of his Command Protocols and took (almost) all the Necrons with him out of the galaxy to perhaps find a new and better one and come across the Tyranids? What if the Great Crusade had all the Primarchs and none turned Traitor, but there were no Astartes? What if the Beast Orks succeeded in defeating the Imperium? What if the Raptor Project succeeded/was never sabotaged? How would each Heresy/Crusade-era Primarch and Legion fare against the modern Tau Empire?

I honestly think that Lucius, if we want to make Lucius something of a good character make his losses not be losses of the competence/skill but ones of essentially overconfidence or grand plan, like Lucius making an experiment of Slaanesh herself using Lucius as a plaything to see if Necron can get posessed, how good would it be if Lucius got played and used as a toy by his own god? For all of his bluster and arrogance Lucius had Slaanesh get him killed by a nameless Necron Lord just so that Slaanesh can test out of Necron beings can be posessed, in a way a fate that many of those who hate Lucius would enjoy, Lucius being a toy and a pawn after all this time and having absolutely astronimically low ammounts of anything that can be called dignity.

I recall early that there was a short story depicting the Taus first encounter with a chaos corrupted human world, they pacificed it but learned things like don't let the Kroot eat chaos corrupted cultist and the like 😅

Would Tyranids really be useless for Chaos to fight? Wouldn't just the massive fight alone benefit Khorne? I also imagine Nurgle would have a lot of fun trying to come up with new bug sprays that work on the nids every time the adapt to one.
