Looks like Disney started preparing for Steamboat Willie's public domain moment in the late 2000s by adding the whistling scene to their intro. I guess this gives them the ability to still sue people on trademark law instead of on copyright law.

But trademark law doesn't provide cover for most of the applications that are now allowed with Steamboat Willie in public domain, anyone can still use it in whatever form they want with the only limitation they can't claim their work is part of Disney. For example, you can make a mug with the Steamboat's version of Mickey Mouse, but you can't claim is licensed by Disney.

When I watch the 'Astro Boy (Atom)' TV series whose original desginer was/is Osamu Tezuka, it seems like and truly fit to Walt Disney Animation. So, if new (outer-media) (remake) "Astro Boy / Iron Arm (Atom/Adam)" movies and TV series are truly released in the future especially since the 2030s or 2040s, we hope "Astro Boy / Iron Arm (Atom/Adam)" movies and TV series should/will be produced by Walt Disney Animation Studio.
