The physicality is what put the lasting psychological damage into your head though. You were always worried/thinking about the next time Laimbeer was going to crush you into the paint, or Rodman was going to grab at your feet and trip you up, etc... The physical punishment you DID receive was what put the constant psychological worry in your head about the possible NEXT time you're going to get hit, and that can throw your mental game completely off for the rest of the game once you start constantly being paranoid of everything at every second.

Larry Bird has said before that he had no problem with Mahorn’s physical way of play BUT he said Laimbeer tried to actually injure and hurt players e.g. break/twist players ankles which is whats wrong. Being physical is fine so I don’t mind the Piston bad boys except for Laimbeer coz other players have said he had an intent of hurting/injuring players which is taking it too far imo not cool
