I only have memories of a mother who was harsh, self absorbed & judgemental. I was terrified to have a child of my own. Later I discovered that her mother, my grandmother, died in a tragic can accident when my mother was 5yo. She was raised by a horrible stepmother. I did not want to pass this legacy to another generation, so when I became pregnant, I immediately hired a Wonderful Live-in Nanny who was able to mother my child in Loving ways I was unable to do. It was the best gift I could have ever given my own child.
