As an FP myself, I can attest to the reality this is grounded in. I had struggles which were helped with a scribe and I could see more patients. Our practice was sold to a Hospital group who told us we could keep our Scribes. After my scribe was accepted into PA school. They did not replace her. About that time we were switched to Epic and my numbers were brought down to allow us to document. I was experiencing burnout and when I was asked if there was anything that could be done to help, I asked to get a scribe. I was informed that I didn't qualify because I was not seeing enough patients. To no avail I explained that this was why I wanted a scribe, so I could see more patients. If I could see more patients without a scribe, I wouldn't be asking for one

Dr. G ---- YESS! As a former Jonathan in oncology and ENT, this one hits home! Every time my doctor left for lunch, all the other doctors and PA's furtively sneaked into our office to see "how a scribe works and if they want one". . . . although I was hired for one doc, I ended up scribing for a BUNCH of different providers . . . suffice it to say many doctors followed suit and got their own Jonathans over the years. During any given day, you get to be a scribe, pseudo-MA, administrative Swiss Army Knife, informal in-office procedures assistant, scheduler, lunch getter, you name it. . . and it was FUN! . . . although at the end of the day I discerned out of medicine for engineering, there was something incredibly rewarding about having the opportunity to be a Jonathan :) . . . when your doctor was able to make her child's recital that evening, take a REAL vacation for a few days, or was able to "just pop into clinic" to see a few patients without getting chained there for the rest of the day, you know you did your job well! Dr. G, I hope the docs (and PAs and NPs) know that you all do as much for us as we (hopefully) do for you :) it was rough discovering medicine wasn't my desired path, but I wouldn't trade my scribe years for anything. Whether or not they end up going to med school, I hope there are plenty of young, excited Jonathans to fill the ranks, help you all, and see whether medicine is the right fit for them. . . . it might sound cliche, but it was an INCREDIBLE pleasure being able to "serve those who serve"!

The more I watch these videos the more I become interested in being an ophthalmologist’s scribe. It has its own language which is pretty cool. I’ve actually been in a study on binocular disfunction for 10 years, and it’s always interesting to me to see how that is now at least acknowledged as real where primary care used to look at you like you were insane for suggesting it in the beginning. (I actually built my own intentionally misaligned twin lens camera to show how my eyes work without specialized lenses to get them to function in stereo. It shut up a neurologist so I think it was an effective demo?) I have 10 years of my retina imaged in infrared on my wall in my house and have kept every pair of glasses I’ve ever worn since kindergarten. I build optics at the moment. I might be a little nerdy about this.
@theseventh52042 жыл бұрын
Binocular dysfunction is annoying. Your eyes see two different views and instead of things being 3D, you just see double. I've noticed that if I push one eye I can make the images overlap and my brain finally sees in 3D, but only lasts aslong as im manually pushing. Is there a cure for it? When I make myself see in 3D like that it overwhelms my brain and things are way too 'vivid'. I think seeing like this also helps as I'm an artist. My normal vision is 2D so drawing came natural to me. Not sure I'd want it cured.
@natashatiffany33532 жыл бұрын
Decided to share this since I thought you would enjoy some weird eye things! Yo i was just diagnosed with this! Over 2 decades of living with it, I just got my first pair of glasses and damn is it weird to have them lol. Apparently my eyes are not working together and are slightly misaligned so I rely on my right eye slightly more than my left. I had to get neurolenses (which of course insurance didn't cover) but my actually eyesight is actually still 20/20 lol. My whole life I've always proped my left cheek up with my hand while drawing/reading and closed that eye. Tried to do archery. Could shoot with that eye closed but couldn't aim for anything once I had both eyes opened even with a sight. Doc told me it would have been impossible for someone to adjust my sight for me to work. I would have had to do it and it wouldn't have has to have been off the bow at the angle. Whole life of ever so slightly tilting my head to the right. Apparently what I have is very subtle but a new opthamologist found it with some fancy tech machines and... a sharpie to show me my strange parallax issues lol. He had me look at the "e" of Sharpie and alternate covering one eye then the other. Then told me that the "e" is not supposed to jump that much in my fov between each eye. Doc was nerding out on me, watching my brain and eyes work individually. Left eye is blurrier and lags behind on focusing and refocusing. The lenses are odd because I only have a baby prescription in them. It's main job is to let my brain work less. The only way I can describe Neurolenses is making it easier to see. Not better, not sharper. Just easier. Wore my glasses outside today for the first tome today and I felt my left eye taking a fraction of a second to refocus on things far away. Right eye had it, but it was really odd to have my vision take a super breif moment to pause and readjust. Only just discovered at a new office for me with better tech. I was seeing an opthamologist every six months for about 8 years because I have rheumatoid arthritis and it could affect my eyes. Plenty of eye evals in my past, but none with a machine that could dial in on my vision automatically. Wish I got the exact name of the condition but I don't think I did. Maybe you know?
@natashatiffany33532 жыл бұрын
@@theseventh5204 i have a super mild version of this! Don't know what exactly to call it but Neuorlens is a company that makes special lenses to help your eyes and brain communicate. I got a pair and they are quite fascinating. I replied to OP above if you want a longer read, but there are options. However, I was told that almost no insurance covers them (because screw us I guess), so my lenses alone were a little over $600. The good thing is that I don't have changing vision problems (worsening vision) so these lenses should work for me for years and years. It is the frames that will likely need to be replaced. If you don't have worsening vision and you do want to get these lenses, go for metal frames. Plastics wear out faster than metal. Not sure about other materials like wood or such.

Scribes are amazing, and I am so grateful for the ones that assist me. It is just unfortunate that the system has forced complex EMRs on us that create the need for scribes...usually at the personal expense of the physicians using them.

Praying for all those in medicine! May God guide your hands and bless you with the knowledge and wisdom to know what steps to take! May God, above all, bless you with a great relationship with Him and either faith renewal or the courage to take a leap of faith so God can show you He is reliable! In Jesus name we pray amen! God bless!

The way the neurologist refers to Jonathan as his full name with the respective title reflects Jonathan's capability.

"Trampoline Park" got me best. All the "Here's the stuff I don't want to do" from the various doctors was accurate and hilarious. But the single greatest location "where the bones aren't fixed" was the best.

Johnathan is a lesson to us all! See how much time we could free up to do multiple things if we only practiced being seen and not heard? Clearly you reach a hire level of humanity when you become a Scribe!
