I just replaced my stock Continental with Michelin AS 4’s at Costco. The new tires (same size) feel smoother, grippy and more responsive. The only Cons I the tires width is not as wide as the rim. The lip of the rim stick out and more potential of getting curb rash.

It plays out like this. My corolla needs a $100 oil change every 5000 miles, or 2 cents per mile. The corolla tires run about $900 for 50000 miles, or 1.8 cents per mile for a total of 3.8 cents. My model 3 will need a $1200 tire set at 30,000, or 4 cents per mile. So, the additional tire cost is pretty much a wash against oil/tires on my corolla. Savings are on energy costs and brake life.

I'm about to pick up a used Model Y from Hertz, and the stock rims are Destroyed. Smaller, more stylish rims will give the benefit of fatter rubber for a better ride, less curb rash, and cheaper tires. Something people should really consider.

Nice video as usual. I have a late 2021 MYP which had the original pirelli's summer tires on them, which I sold them as soon as I could and purchased the Michelin pilot sport all season 4, except I went a step further. As you know the tires that come originally are overstretched and that is why the rims are outside the tires, make them exposed to curb rash. I went for 295/35/21 for the back and 275/35/21 in the front which squared off the wheels. I also get a softer ride because of the all seasons and better handling because of the wider tires. The all seasons are not sticky like the Michelin pilot sport 4s which are their summer tires. keep up the great videos

Just bought new tyres in Australia for my Model Y. I had some new 20" alloys I had bought for my Kona electric which had the same PCD and offset as the Y. For 19" Tesla wheel I only had the OEM Hankook Ventus EVO E3 tyres at $495 AUD ea. or Michelin EV tyres at $550 AUD each to choose from in 255/45R19. Instead I got a set of Delmax Ultra Sport 255/45ZR20 105W fitted for $150 AUD each. A little more road noise and a 5% increase in energy consumption but for a saving of $1400 AUD I couldn't be happier.

Continental Procontact RX has tread wear of 400 and Michelin Pilot Sport All season 4 has tread wear of 540 . So, Michelin has higher tread wear as well and that’s why it will last more.

People keep saying electric vehicles are heavy; the Tesla Model Y weighs about the same as the Ford Edge, for example. Tesla, like any other car, will consume tires based on its driving habits. For Tesla and many other EVs, it's the enormous torque that's mainly responsible for tire consumption.

I think Tesla should really include tire in their whole business and eco system due It's very pricey and in need of real innovation. Tesla should look at re-threading tire technology to lower ownership cost of their electric cars. Tires in electric cars are the single most expensive maintenance.

Depends on where you live, down here in Florida, you can barely get 25K due to the sand and crummy road conditions, I guess Trump didn't get to that promise. I know a guy who has had his Y for 1.5 years and after barely 21K miles, his tires were history, cost like $300-400 a piece to replace. I read somewhere that even the top brand tires don't last on EVs, not just Tesla, something about the car design specs, I don't know. All I know is the best tires go on SUVs. I had my Michelin LTs on my 1996 Explorer that lasted for 58K miles and over 7 years with still good tread depth and my Goodyears last 39K miles.

Yep, I’m a fan of the Michelin AS 4’s. I got them on my last car and am pleased that they came on my MYP. I was yelling at the screen when you kept saying “wet and snow.” It’s “winter and snow.” Classically, summer tires have been great in dry and wet conditions. Where winter tires do poorly in those conditions. But when temps go below 40 F, then it’s “winter conditions” and it doesn’t matter how dry the road is, the winter tires out perform the summers. (Again, this is classical/historical info. As compounds have improved, the lines have blurred. Prime example is with the AS 4s).

was going to get those ones next! You like them?? How's the road noise and handling and most importantly, efficiency?
@AbhijotSolanki
@AbhijotSolanki 2 жыл бұрын
@@EverydayChris When tires are new there’s definitely a slight low frequency hum thanks to the aggressive tread but nothing which ever bugged me and it got better after first 1000 kms. Definitely smoother ride over potholes. They’re snow peak rated which means I don’t need to keep two sets of wheels and can run these all year with just rotation. Approximately 5-10% efficiency hit over stock primacy’s but just like road noise it got better after first few thousand kms. Snow and wet weather performance was very impressive. Stock tires have 8/32 tread when new, CC2’s start at 10/32 and apparently they performance well in all weather conditions down to 2/32.

I also want all weather tire since I have no off season storage. Tire dealer told CC2 we’re not load rated for model y (103 vs 104) so would not install. Was that not a concern for u?
@AbhijotSolanki
@AbhijotSolanki Жыл бұрын
@@geoff.terryhurley8881 It was a slight concern but I was well under all limits. For example 100rating(7056 lbs) on CC2 for 19 inch model Y wheels vs 104(7936 lbs) stock. Model Y weighs around 4500lbs. Speed rating 149mph vs 168mph. I guess it all depends on the user. If someone is going rip cross a track at high speeds and stress test tires at turns, definitely don’t go to CC2’s.

What tire should I get for my 2021 model three performance? I just got my first flat tire $500 for a replacement. I heard tire rack has a road hazard warranty? I probably want to get all three replaced soon
@HansGruber88
@HansGruber88 Жыл бұрын
Tire Rack will replace the tire no questions asked if it is punctured or flat etc within 2 years of purchase. You just need your tire shop that installed the tire to help you out with the warranty. At least that’s how it worked the last time it happened to me on my BMW 4 years ago. Michelin Pilot Sports as well. Saved me over $250 back then!

EV critics claims that EV tire usage is much worse than ICE car, due to EV‘s body weigt and more power, such that the cost saving of EV in maintenance is on par or higher than that of ICE car. Do you agree?

The Y is like a fucking nightmare. I know one person who's battery died after 21K miles and 1.5 years, one who after a little over a year and 13K miles has to put on new tires for like $300 a piece, one whose charger shorted out their home breaker box and they lost power for a few days over the weekend and it was like over $1,000 to fix with the $500 for the charger and the $1,800 the electrician charged to install it. Also, a person who has had hers for a year and has already had to have the HVAC system fixed (no A/C), one of the structural components in the back where her kid sits needed replacement and the touchscreen shorted out and it cost all total, $28,000 too repair and Tesla's warranty didn't cover Jack, they had an exclusion for every component, she said paying $1,000 a month and extra $100 a month on their electric bill and almost $30K in repairs for a year old $65K car was the biggest mistake she ever made, well the second biggest mistake after her marriage, hahaha. It was voted Car and Driver and Consumer Reports least reliable and worst car of 2021 with a 1 out of 5 and 18 out of 100. There is already a recall, so be sure to check if you have a Y for your safety. Not to mention the $9-13K price increase for the new 2022 models from last year and the 2023 is said to increase, as well. Just save yourself the trouble and get a 3, its basically the same car just made better and costs less.
