@@victorvandenbrink6851 I disagree. Linkin Park have always been my favourite band but the Tom Morello feature was shit. I think they did a jam session together and Tom recorded some half assed guitar. Linkin Park then asked him if they could use and he probably shrugged it off. My theory is they wanted to name Tom Morello in the list of features. I remember being hyped until I heard drawbar. It remains the worst track on any Linkin Park record.

The Chino part is from the Nu Metal episode of Metal Evolution by Sam Dunn and the interview is a bit longer, but the uncut extended version is on Banger TV. Interestingly Rich Ward of Stuck Mojo when talking about Anthrax and Public Enemy doing "Bring the noise" says the influence was that it showed you didn't have to wear long bacl jeans to play metal, but could also wear shorts. So maybe the true origin of Sports Metal is Scott Ians shorts.

I think when it comes to Nu-Metal is it was very divisive. Music Critics absolutely hated it and still hate it. But there was a short lived underground Nu-Metal band called Presence, and in one of their songs there is a fantastic line that says “this music is for the kids and not for the music critics”. But the bands and artists that would influence the Nu-Metal bands didn’t like it. I mean without Mike Patton there would be no Nu-Metal. But I think the reason why Mike Patton didn’t like it was because I think he felt that Nu-Metal was just a less creative version of something he was doing. The reason why I love Nu-Metal is because it’s high energy music, it’s literally the music equivalent of Red Bull or Monster Energy drinks, and The Fast And Furious movies. The music makes me want to move and Jumpdafuckup. So I think why Nu-Metal gets the underserved hate it got/gets is because it took something creative and made it into music for Frat Boys or Kyles. But I don’t see that as a good reason to hate on it. My argument is it put heavy music on MTV, a whole generation of fans wouldn’t of even known who bands like Limp Bizkit, KoRn, Disturbed, Linkin Park, P.O.D, Slipknot, SOAD or Evanescence were if it wasn’t for those bands being played on MTV. And then Music Critics helped kill it because they couldn’t stand it. As for Traditional Metal fans the reason they didn’t like it was because Nu-Metal bands didn’t have guitar solos, shredding, fast riffs, and didn’t have lyrics about dragons, Satan and war.

@@boxychubbo6922 If you look up the word creativity in the dictionary you will see a picture of Mike Patton and David Lynch. And the amount of bands that site Patton as an influence is staggering.

Whether you count all of these bands as Metal or not they were all apart of the same movement. 90’s Hard Rock and Metal took it in different places and bands wanted to experiment their sounds. Bands in the 90’s didn’t want to be just a Thrash band, or a Hardcore band, or a Hair band, or following other trends. Mike Patton laid the groundwork for bands in the 90’s to experiment and create their own trends and sounds. But unfortunately that movement died in 2004, and bands Post 2004 have gone backwards into this trend chasing shit, rather than creating something new. I mean we are nearing 2023 and bands think we are in 2013 and still doing the Metalcore/Djent breakdown shit. And don’t even get me started with the state of Hard Rock music, I mean it’s practically dead.

Korn pioneered the genre and Faith No More inspired the genre. If you listen to Korn interviews that is definitely the band they list as an influence the most. Pantera was obviously a huge influence too...I like when Anselmo described Pantera as being inspired by "the money riff" how they took the best riffs and just kind of made the money riff the whole song and repeated the riff over and over...Us old-school fans know about the money riffs that bands used to feature in their songs back in the mid to late 80s.

Korn may have created the nu metal genre, but I've always had a hard time referring to them as a nu metal band. I believe the bands who came after them, the ones who sort of copied them (Limp Bizkit and SlipKnot I'm looking at you!) were the ones who created the genre. After all, if it wasn't for the other nu metal bands, bands like Adema, Sevendust, Papa Roach, 40 Below Summer, Sw1tched, Flaw, Slaves On Dope, I could go on and on, then the genre Nu Metal would've never even been a thing, because no one even used the term nu metal until the early 2000s which was about 7 years after Korn released their first CD. F*ck genres though haha, just listen to what you enjoy! I still love nu metal and grew up going to Ozzfest every year and just saw Korn live a few months ago and they are still putting on amazing shows! It's kind of unfortunate how the term was used so damn loosely for a clusterfuck amount of bands that really had no place in the genre. It seemed as if the term was used for more of a cultural wave then the actual music. Bands like Limp Bizkit were more along the lines of Rap Metal for the most part, while bands like Deftones more Shoegaze and Alt. Korn's self-titled really captured what the heart of the genre was, Grunge and Groove with some hip-hop elements. Anybody that followed that formula truly captured the real definition of Nu-Metal

4:36 Tom Morello is just parroting the thoughts of the elitists, critics, and "taste makers". They said jump, he said how high? 5:22 Corey Taylor's answer just shows how Nu Metal bands don't want to be associated with it coz of all the hate from the gate keepers. "Just coz we rapped, had a DJ, and bounce riffs, doesn't make us Nu Metal."

@@aliasfakename2267 Well there is the general population that doesn't "like" music. Like they listen to it, but they're not as interested in music as some of us, if that makes sense. Like my mom and brother listen to the radio in their cars. And even if they were to listen to spotify or whatever, there's probably still a large crossover with what's currently popular and on the radio. We're the minority. 😂

@@aliasfakename2267 There's the term, passive listening. It's just there to fill the silence and maybe they enjoy some of the songs that come on, but they're not like us, who are still enjoying music that we found when we were kids, or digging deeper than the surface to find something special that they connect with. Some people just don't have that level of interest.
