@@underthemayo Fun fact. I played the game with my 45 year old partner and we solved it relatively fast because I knew it I had to do something to the disk to unlock it but didn't know what because I was born in 1994. So I kept asking him "did floppy disks back then had some locking mechanism or something"? And after a few minutes he was like "WAIT, YES! I REMEMBER!" and we solved it. It's a bullshit mechanic for younger people, but I think it was just there as a salute to older gamers, which is who the game is targeted at. We also solved the clock puzzle in like 1 minute hehe ;P By far the toughest ones imo were the cash register one and the operation room corpse. We also took way to long to solve the gas pipe but that's because idiot me didn't notice that the hint was relative to the pipes being placed vertically

3:22 I’d disagree, the 90’s horror games had tons of notes/ letters/ books/ journals/ etc., even the games with voice acting from multiple characters made you read a lot if you wanted to fully understand what’s going on. It’s better than the main character pontificating when they’re alone, that’s for sure.

13:48 I absolutely loved that puzzle, once you know the first 2 numbers you can also just trial & error it with just one input left, but if you do think about it harder, the symbolism makes it from a fairly good standard puzzle, to an genius one. 15:18 it's been a while, but i'm pretty sure somewhere was an hint about the amount of gascaps that exist at least I remember that I exactly knew that I have to collect 3. Tormented Souls is one of my fav horror games of all time. Like a mix of SH and RE1make in terms of level design. Ammo conservation is sooooo important they barely give you any and health is in short supply too. And the story is really well written and i love the metroidvania style of it. The atmosphere is amazing and looks great for an indie title. Glad to see the game get so much love. Great to speedrun as well. Gotta say tho i always love reading notes in horror games. One of my favorite aspects about fixed camera angles in survival horror games is sometimes not being able to visualize the location of an enemy if they happen to be in a room with you. When you have to go by sound to decipher which enemies are present, as well as where they are, it makes the game inherently scarier. It's the reason why Resident Evil 1 Remake is my #1 favorite survival horror title. The game masters this art so well. Super happy to see that this classic style of survival horror is making a resurgence with games like Tormented Souls and Signalis :)

In my first playthrough, I didn't have my system connected to an internet source, so I couldn't get any game updates. Apparently, there was a day one patch/update that changed a lot of things including some camera angles, entire room layouts, and certain puzzles. The TV puzzle was one of the changed puzzles, and not only did the non updated version make no sense to me, but any online help was explaining it based on the updated version so I had to just fumble my way through.

@@underthemayo The real fun part was realizing you could skip the final boss. Before the update the door after the final save would drop you in the middle of the stairs heading to the final boss (instead of the top), and for some reason if you went up the stairs instead of down and entered the door back to the save room, you would instead exit outside the elevator you take after the final boss. And since you get the front door key just BEFORE the final boss you can just walk out, and the game counts it.

I'm sure for the sequel, they will get it all sorted out if they do it since they've laid the perfect groundwork for a superior sequel. For their first attempt though at trying to recreate what made the classic survival horror special, I think they gave it a solid shot! However, I didn't feel bad looking up a solution because I knew I could've brute forced the combination eventually if I didn't mind wasting my time. Great game overall and I really enjoyed the puzzles, but agree they were definitely on the extreme side. I think the game could've really benefitted from a puzzle difficulty setting like the Silent Hill games. Not everyone will be able to figure them out, unfortunately.

My "I should have waited to approach with fresh eyes" puzzle was the skeleton. I became convinced early on, for some reason, that the first line of the riddle was an intro and not part of the solution itself -- probably because there were five switches and six lines, so I figured it would be hitting each switch once. At some point I straight up abandoned the "hitting each switch once" mentality... but never thought to re-examine my dumb logic of ignoring the first line. Sigh... Some of these puzzles I think just needed something to clue you in when you're wrong. Like the pipe puzzle in the end: if everything I'm doing is blocking leaks and whatnot, then how about when I get it wrong, we see an animation of where the water is leaking? There's too much guess-and-check involved. The hint shows you open and closed, but only for vertical pipes -- so is it closed when the switch is horizontal, or when the switch is perpendicular to the pipe? It's annoying because it's otherwise a good puzzle, but becomes frustrating when I'm just taking guesses what the clues mean (although I think I did figure that one out without looking it up). I looked up the skeleton, the stupid monkey puzzle (ugh), and the floppy overwrite. I thiiiiiink that's all I had to look up but there may have been more. After an hour of running in circles, I just want to progress.

Fixed cam angles that exploit basic photography techniques are genius. Seeing the tilted hallways and camera angles in uncanny positions just sets up the perfect atmosphere for a very clunky and claustrophobic feeling. That being said, old techniques work when used correctly and cleverly. Though it would have been more preferable if a better targeting system is used because games like these can be a lot more tactical than they look. My only real gripe is the overdesigned characters especially the playable model, but I guess it's a callback to very particular flavor of Japanese horror classics, so it's fine.

I feel like it was not. I think it's just bad casting.

@@underthemayotaking into consideration that the actress wasn't an English native... I think she did an amazing job nonetheless

@@underthemayo that's understandable, I just stumbled across it and it reminded me of the resident evil 1 remake so I've been chomping at the bit over it , I really can't wait until it fully releases, I hope they don't mess it up . Maybe we will finally get a true return to form for classic survival horror.

I feel proud that this master piece was developed in my country, Chile ❤. I just hope that, with their success, our government realize that we can also be able to design and produce amazing games (like other gaming desingers big companies), and can commit with founds that can help more developers to be seen and noticed.
