How to pack bags to save space when traveling. Organize your suitcase. I stopped using packing cubes and did this instead. See how we got a pillow, stuffed animal, blanket, and clothes in a carry-on suitcase! Then I share a secret I came up with to make your clothes smell good and make doing laundry easier when you travel. This is a way to keep everything lightweight and organized while taking up as little space as possible.
➡️ Ziploc Space Bag Clothes Vacuum Sealer Storage Bags XL amzn.to/3T42nSf
➡️ Bags for travel that don't require a vacuum amzn.to/3ceg00z
➡️ Lavender vanilla scented laundry detergent sheets amzn.to/3KbYjeC or these that are fresh linen scented amzn.to/3QInV59
➡️ Owl suitcase amzn.to/3UuxmYq
If you don’t have a vacuum for your pillow or bulkier items, look for one at a car wash. You can roll the bag from the zipper to push the air through the valve. Or sit on it and then roll like the smaller ones. Some bags don't require a vacuum (the link is above).
Wrinkles weren’t an issue for me, but if that bothers you, you can neatly fold clothing first.
We may earn a commission when you shop through our links (and you'll get a cleaner home).

This is an old backpacking trick that I've done for a few decades. 😃 Also, space is limited when traveling with large families (I'm the oldest of 5, had 4 children, & now have 6 grandchildren) and specifically packing all the clothes for one day in each bag you'll pack fewer clothes as well as being better organized. We always packed for about a week and planned laundry stops about once a week on longer trips. Wash, dry, & repackage clothing sets and you're good for another week. As others have mentioned, you would do better to fold your clothes flat to go into your Ziplock bags for several reasons: 1) Folded flat clothes take up less space than bunched up clothes 2) Folded clothes will be less wrinkled when you pull them out of the bag to use 3) Folded flat clothes can also be easily rolled into "logs" (before or after putting them in the Ziplock) for a different way of organizing clothes to be more easily seen, depending on the type of suitcase/backpack/duffel that you pack. If you pack liquid things like shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, etc, be sure to Ziplock this things in their own bags. Protects everything if a lid accidentally comes loose in the suitcase ... 😁😂

Just came back from 21 days in Europe. 1 adult, 1 senior, 1 push wheelchair... 1- 40 liter backpack, 1- medium duffel, 2- small overnight backpacks. All independent travel. Used 2 types of bags, "space bags" with sliders and thicker plastic and "freezer" bags, without sliders, and softer, thinner shell. Space bags come in luggage and carry on size. I use them for all clothes, but roll clothes before placing in bag. For freezer bags, I will use gallon bags for some electronics, non-liquid toiletries, and medicine bottles and quart bags for electronic cables/plugs and all liquids. Using bags not only saves space, and helps with organizing, but maybe most importantly, saves zippers and straps on bags from being overstretched. For wrinkles, a hot, steaming shower has always worked well in ridding most clothes of wrinkles. Great video. Thanks and Happy Travels

You would have flatter bags and no wrinkled clothes if you ironed or straightened the garments first rather than screwing them up into a ball before putting them in the zip lock bags. Great idea to use cheap zip lock bags rather than very expensive specialist vacuum bags. Thanks!

I have always taken my pillow with me in my carry-on bag using a space bag. The first time I did it, I was worried about how to compress it enough for the return trip because I wouldn't have a vacuum. I found that you can just close the bag, put it in a chair and sit on it to push the air out. Worked like a charm, actually better than the vacuum. I will definitely use the zipper bag trip for my clothes next time. Thank you!

There was a vacuum in the Airbnb we stayed at but you can get bags that don't require a vacuum amzn.to/3ceg00z Or this TINY pump that fits in your luggage amzn.to/3GvOqYB (affiliate links) Or, close the bag, put it in a chair and sit on it to push the air out. Find a car wash that has vacuum cleaners As for wrinkles, just shake your clothes or you can fold the clothes neatly before putting them into the bag. But I didn't have an issue with wrinkles. We love these lavender vanilla scented laundry sheets amzn.to/3KbYjeC or these that are fresh linen scented amzn.to/3QInV59 so you can wash your clothes before putting them back into the bag.

Good question! I didn't have any problems with wrinkling even my linen shirt. If you're concerned about wrinkling, then you can fold the clothes before rolling. I also think it would be ok to roll first and then squeeze out all the air. Actually, I'm going to try that! I've rolled clothes in the past without the shrink wrap part and they never wrinkled either.

This would be a lot better if you would fold close before packing, but I’m sure you’re just stuffing the clothes in like this for this video🤗 I’ve been doing this for years 👍🏽👍🏽😂😂

I should’ve mentioned that I try to buy clothes that don’t wrinkle and hate to fold. It’s on other videos but I’d rather bring a small travel steam iron or even put clothes between the mattresses than iron. But my clothes were fine, didn’t have a problem with wrinkles. As soon as I got there I took them out of the bags, so they didn’t stay in a bag for long.

Better bring spare ziplock bags for when, not if, they spring a leak!

What size of ziploc bag?
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe Жыл бұрын
The jumbo size. I believe I linked to some in the description if you want to see one. There are extra large ziplock bags that you reuse and are so handy.

How are you gonna vacuum that pillow back in for the flight home they don't have vacuums for borrowing

I only use those vacuum bags when traveling to a family/friend's home so that I am assured of bringing home what I brought with me.

We had one at the Airbnb or we had friends who had one. Or find a car place with a vacuum. Worst case you could roll it like the smaller bags and fold in half. We would remove the extra clothes and it would fit. Here are bags for travel that don't require a vacuum amzn.to/3ceg00z

What size zip loc bags are you using here to pack your clothes?
@CleanFreakGermaphobe

The gallon size but you can get the jumbo ones for heavier clothes. It was summer and kid’s clothes so we could go smaller.

Just sit on the bag on the bed or a soft chair. That’s how the Marine Corps taught me to do it in the 90s

There was one in the Airbnb we stayed at but you can get bags that don't require a vacuum amzn.to/3ceg00z Close the bag, put it in a chair and sit on it to push the air out. Find a car wash that has vacuum cleaners Get a small electric hand held pump like this amzn.to/3qPsakd

Trouble is, once you remove the air with the vacuum seal bags, the weight increases!

Air doesn't weigh anything so the weight should be the same. The mass changes, not the weight.

That is wonderful,but somehow,I feel like doing this may turn on immigration officers' alarm sensors that make them suspect drugs...if they are not used to seeing this or are not aware of the hack.lol..Don't ask me...I got my cocoa stick(compressed cocoa and spices) tested once..I was tickled by that because the guy must have thought I was trying to smuggle drugs.
