One of the most important things you need to learn early on in Escape From Tarkov is that ammo determines the damage you do, not guns. But learning how ammo works and all its stats can be a huge amount of information to take on. So I've created this video to hopefully make understanding ammo a little bit easier. I know I'm hell a late, and also it's probably not that important to most people, but as someone whose native language is not english I have to say that this really did confuse me, @2:41 you said the total damage was equal to an extra 50 percent of the original damage the bullet would have dealt, but in the video, the text it says otherwise. I read the wiki so now it's clear to me. (also because of some bug this only works on limbs). thanks for making this great video and I apologize for pointing out mistakes

Another video you can do is what ammo to use depending on the trader level or something of that sort. Would’ve been really helpful when I was starting out

Armor damage pretty much correlates with pen. Higher pen = higher armor damage. Math can be viewed in the NOFAM blog post. As for ricochet chance, it deals with angles of impact and the low/med/high chance set by the armor. I'm not sure it goes much deeper than that or if the specifics are even available publicly. From what I've seen it isn't

I get the ammo part of the game but what about many weapon options we get to choose. Is there any point in using this gun over this gun since both can have 60 drum size of best ammo for example. i would rather stick to cheaper gun and put stronger ammo in it rather than buying more expensive gun and still doing the same dmg.(I am still very new to the game)

Good question! Weapons are often personal preference, but ideally you're shooting for low recoil and high ergonomics and accuracy. These can all vary greatly between guns of the same caliber, so you have to try them out and figure out which you like the feel of most.

@@JonnyBooSock honestly that's what a lot of people do and is very cost efficient. The only benefit of kitting out your gun is for better recoil and ergonomics, but you could easy destroy some chads with a stock AK with 7.62 BP on single fire.

It actually is Reserve! It's outside the map, near scav lands. A lot of these still clips I have in my vids I try to get of places outside the maps, since we don't often get the time to appreciate these areas otherwise

Wish they'd just make the UI better and give us all the relevant information. Like literally every "out of game" stat is what we need to be seeing IN GAME

Initially they didn't want us knowing that info, but then people went ahead and datamined it for years for the world to see to the point it was normalized, and now everything's in this weird state where BSG announces any changes to ammo stats openly, but still doesn't want the data displayed in game. Odd approach for sure!

Depends on the wall! Most walls, no. But if you're in a metal shack yes, or if you're shooting through a wooden surface, yes. Really depends on the wall in question

Damage and pen fluctuate greatly along the spectrum within each caliber, but generally speaking larger rounds have higher pen.

Probably should have mentioned in the fragmentation section that rounds with less than 20 pen can't fragment ever no matter their frag chance. Typically for rounds that are intended as flesh rounds their damage is buffed accordingly but there are some outliers like most of the 12 ga shotgun slugs.
