Ida Nason, a Wenatchi Indian elder from Ellensburg, Washington, gives a spirited oral history of Washington state, stories about the immense change thrust upon the Plateau tribes during her lifetime. Filmed in 1986, this is a story of survival and adaptation in a time of challenge and uncertainty. Hear Ida speak of traditional wisdom and about the harmony between nature and the Native American way of life.

I know some of Mrs. Nason's grandchildren. My brother had the privilege of making her acquaintance around 1983 ish. It's such a shame they didn't get the opportunity to learn her native ways. What a wonderful testament this film is to her indigenous culture.

Hello, This document is a great one, a very interesting testimony. By the way it's filmed, wide enough to be able to see this Elder using the traditional PISL to help her telling her stories, it is absolutely beautiful ! Thank you very much for sharing. Have a good day.

She used this sign language when my brother met her. It's sad that some of her grandchildren didn't have opportunity to get to know her ways very much.
