the best decision they made is getting back to older versioning of unity.. which is now unity 6.. the yearly releases are so dumb.. when you want a certain essential main feature.. they get implemented on next year version.. then when it comes out it's incomplete or buggy or experimental.. then wait another year for it to become production ready and be prepared for annoying API changes..

I agree, I much prefer this style of naming because it then doesn't get caught up in dates which people consider really old and think they shouldn't be using. I hope they'll iron out a lot of the bugs in Unity 6 but as is the nature of software development, it's always going to happen. :)

the GPU light baker supporting 2GB vram and adaptive probe volumes were what i was most excited about. The first doesnt work, the second made my computer crash every single time.That was on 2023 though. Now that 6 is out in beta, lemme try again

The GPU driven rendering looks interesting. I tried their new graphics jobs for 2023 that needed directx12 but got worse performance. I am making a large open world city. I finally got performance to always be over 60fps using indirect GPU instancing for all the buildings and turning them off when the player is not near. Unity on the forum says it will work well for kitbash models. Those have given me horrible performance so will be cool if they work well.

I wonder how this is all going to work out with AI built into Unity. Steam is getting more and more against anything AI generated in projects brought to steam.

Unity have a stance of responsibly trained AI models which don't extract from wider sources, so they may get something worked with Steam. Although I think Steams newer policy does suggest that most content will pass onto the platform.

This update definitely going to be a huge game changer(literally), now i think now i think i should have waited a little before starting the project I am working on, as unity's inbuilt multiplayer solution would be a huge help for indies like me, and after this i can somewhat accept the new revenue system they dropped, thanks for the update

You do have to pay for unity 6 correct? At least once your game is making money?

If it makes more than $200,000 you will have to subscribe to Unity Pro. After that if you make more than $1 Million and have 1 million installs then you owe 2.5%

You'll have to pay 5% for Unreal too (both UE4 & UE5) once you get to $1 million or 1 million downloads. This is the monetization future of big proprietary 3rd party engines going forward.

In addition to UrbasShane, both $200k and $1 mil. need to be made within 12 months. Pro plan is for revenue from all your games/products made with Unity 6 and later. 2.5% fee is per game, not the revenue from all games/products. So if you have 2 or 20 games that made 600k last 12 months each, you won't need to pay fee.
