Riddler: "Bruuuuuuuce Waaaaaaayne". Batman internally: "oh fuck oh shit he knows who I am he's going to tell everyone fuck me there's a camera recording it's going to be everywhere this is the end for batman". Riddler:"He's the one guy we didn't get". Batman internally: "thank fuck I didn't say anything"

I love how that scene was lead up to and played out. Pattinson's "Bruce Wayne" performance in the Batsuit is so good. I put Bruce Wayne in quotes because he's only able to be himself as Batman. As Riddler says, "I'm looking at the real you." His assumption that Riddler knows he's Bruce causes him to almost instinctively put up that persona he very clearly struggles to maintain. But when he gets rug pulled from under him, his aggression shines through like, well, the bat signal.
@mercury2157

@@scarigamez it makes you wonder how he was unable to put 2 and 2 together though. Bruce Wayne is barely out in public and clearly deprived of sunlight whenever he is, and he just happens to be absent when he gets the bomb delivered. Not to mention the high tech equipment Riddler is aware Batman has access to, but eh.

I take this scene as a catalyst for him to put Bruce Wayne out in public. While Riddler didn't figure it out, how long would it take him to or anyone else. This along with his speech at the end would make great starting points for a sequel where he tries to do more as Bruce Wayne rather than Batman.

The moment of Batman walking in an upside down shot made me realise that he is legitimately horror movie villain to the criminals. His theme in that scene is horror movie villain's theme: foreboding, omnious and sinister. And then, when the theme played in the finale, with minimal orchestration change, they made it a hero's music. Giacchino outdid himself.

I will never stop raving over this movie. The shot as he literally leads the people of Gotham out of the darkness is absolutely beautiful. Bruce’s realization that being “Vengeance” is not actually creating good in the world and that if he truly wants to make the world a place where nobody has to lose their parents he needs to be better. He needs to care more, he needs to be Batman.
@Senny_V

AND he needs to be Bruce Wayne. This movie was him realising what he needs to embody as Batman, but the sequel will have to show what he can do as Bruce, since this movie showed us a Bruce who didn't really know what to do with the massive power that comes with being a billionaire

2 things: 1. It’s awesome as hell that both Batman and the Batmobile get basically the same intro, where you hear them before you actually see them. Absolutely pitch perfect Batmobile sequence with perfect build in tension. 2. Love how subtly funny Bruce is in this, contrasting how dour he is. Constantly turning phrases and being a smartass, but not in a cocky way, more biting. “Alright, I got you on assaulting an officer!” “You got me on assaulting three”

idfc what people says about the movie. I love this movie so much, I think this is a great movie and I don't get the hate this one's getting. this is an immature version of Batman/Bruce Wayne, it's his sophomore year for fuck sake. his gadgets aren't that hi-tech just yet, his fighting skills aren't really that honed just yet, and he's too emotional compared to the other Batman where they are already completely incorruptible especially the Christian Bale's Batman in The Dark Knight. people really need to realize this one, that this is a young Batman who's just thinking he can avenge his parents by punching random thugs in the face or getting surrounded by 20 thugs and tell them "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!"

honestly, I think him flinching or hesitating isn't something that should stop. even though inexperience is probably what they were going for, like you said, I kind of appreciate the idea of even batman in 10 years hesitating a little. cause he's just a guy, and it will never not hurt or be a risk to do that, but he does it anyway and that's what makes him cool.

Batman’s arc in this movie is perfectly surmised by one consistent bit of physical acting 1.) Bruce is visibly squinting in the entire scene where Alfred is trying to decode the first cipher because of daylight streaming in from the windows (“Two years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal”) 2.) At the end, when Bruce is helping the woman being airlifted, he’s looking up, clear and wide-eyed in the daylight Vengeance in the night -> Hope in the light

I love how they did Bruce's arc. They gave us a by-the-book Batman flick where he spends most of the time brooding and dealing out concussions, just to pull the rug and have him ultimately fail because his approach would largely be ineffective since he was only dealing with the symptoms of crime, not the cause. I also love how, political read aside, the final climax is Bruce having to literally deal with Batman fans who romanticize him as a brutal punisher. I extra love how that revelation pushes him closer towards his role as the first responder/defender role he takes in the comics (and the animated adaptations). Also, I just interpreted the large explosions as stylish flair, not an actual representation of the size and intensity of the blasts.

@Willy that's the point. He wasn't trying to outthink Riddler, he was trying just applying the same blunt logic that he applies to dealing with street crime. The whole point of the movie wasn't to give us the world's greatest detective. The point was to give us Batman as we've been happy to receive him in every big screen outing, and then show us why that wouldn't work out. Bruce doesn't start the movie as the Dark Knight Detective, he's Gotham's Vengeance. It isn't until after he loses so bad that he sees what he needs to do different and become the Batman.

I especially love Batman's relationship with Gordon in this film. It feels very unique from other iterations where they basically treat each other as equals. Here, Gordon almost seems to begrudgingly look out for Batman out of pity and often voices his frustration with the guy's caginess. I almost get George and Lenny vibes from their relationship, like Gordon fears the idea of Batman snapping and going too far one day and having to put him down. I also love how the two actually share a bit of a chuckle when Gordon tells Batman to punch him in the face so he can escape. We never really get to see that side of Batman in the movies.

I always found it fascinating that as Batman he stands taller than even most of the cops. He towers over everyone he talks to as this intimidating force but as Bruce he seems almost reserved and like hes hiding in on himself. He always keeps his head sort of down and slouched not really meeting anyones eyes. It goes to show just how split the two personas are from each other at this point. Honestly that difference that Robert displays made him my favorite live action batman. No disrespect to any of the others (especially adam west) but this is a batman that is broken and suffering in his own personal hell and it is fascinating to watch. Throughout the movie i also noticed that he basically lives the line from Iron man in the MCU "if you need the suit you dont deserve it" towards the end of the movie we see him becoming more confident and grounded. His two personas mixing to form THE batman and by the end of the movie we see him become someone worthy of the suit and the symbolism behind it

another thing I love is the fact that we see Bats put on his eyemakeup. it's rushed, panicked and greasy. in the shot where we first see him without the mask after his night of batmanning, the makeup is faded, smudged and dropping and it's greasy and not matte like other batman movies tend to make it out. perfect attention to detail

Just a personal thing, but I love whenever Batman is called THE Batman. Or the Bat Man Because it gives him a mythological/urban legend-like feel and its brilliant for an early Batman. One of my favorite scenes of the movie was with the bat-signal, followed by the criminal looking at the dark alley. I watched this at an early preview with my older brother and dad, and at several points throughout the movie, my brother would just quietly whisper “I feel like I’m watching a comic book”…… and he’s 100% correct. A phenomenal, perfect Batman movie. Up there with the Batman movie series that featured Heath Ledger's Joker. Just perfect in every way. What a unique take, depicting Batman in the early years. And I love the unique take on the Riddler. He isn't some silly guy in question mark suits. He is equally as much a dangerous, psychotic terrorist as the rest of them. He was so intimidating. He was great! Riddler is so underrated, nice to see him get his due like this. And Robert Patterson impressed me. Sounded like a haha meme when he was cast, but he truly was great in this role. If it weren't such a long movie, I'd be watching it over and over again.

Everything about that early shot at the crime scene...him staring at the kid who found his dead dad, holding that stare a few seconds too long, reminded you everything you need to know about why Bruce Wayne is Batman. What a creative way of re-establishing that trauma without a Thomas & Martha death scene... Though I do hope we get some sort of glimpse through nightmares or something. That would be cool. Also, the bat-signal being a normal spot light with a few shutters broken and bent into the shape of the bat wings? C'mon. So good.

One thing shown in this video that I really loved in the film is when we hear Bruce Wayne’s voice from Batman’s cowl. It’s so rare in any Batman feature to break through the mask like that and remind us of the man underneath. Pattinson’s performance in that scene definitely doesn’t hurt, either.

And every time it happens it’s when Batman is in such a stressful situation that he no longer cares about disguising his voice. First when he was asking the DA about the bribes, then when he was trying to call Alfred, and finally when he was interrogating the Riddler.

I absolutely love this version. Paul does so well with acting as both Batman AND Bruce Wayne. Plus, this movie goes way more into his roots. Some of the more recent movies go more into his fighting and backstory, but this one goes more into his roots as a detective. It's called DC for a reason, and this reminds fans where Batman as a character started. Plus, the more creepy version of the Riddler and the mystery and misdirection works SO well with the detective Batman. I love this version so much and am so excited to see if more like this comes from DC. If it does, they can do a lot better than they have. They tried too hard to catch up to Marvel, but this new version can actually work for some audiences! I love this so much.
