The Meg! I took my wife to see this and she said I had to do this movie so here we are. We've always enjoyed this…"type"…of movie. And she loves sharks, so it was a no-brainer…huh. But seriously, plenty of fun to be had. Here's everything right with The Meg!

I can only assume the chopper blades would have caused a problem for the Meg, and they tried to be semi realistic which meant they didn't want to have it fly out of the water at high speed (in order to actually get to the helicopter) and yet not get hit by any of the death blades.

Something that surprised me is the Meg's behavior to be honest. It wasn't a blood-thirsty killing machine eating everything and everyone, it targets ships the size of whales (its natural prey) and when swimming around humans it doesn't attack until everyone panics and sends it on a feeding frenzy. Pretty solid stuff.

13:06 Surprisingly enough, a good number of sharks are actually not instantly attracted and frenzied by human blood. Humans, aren’t the usual encounter, let alone usual prey of most sharks, so really if they were to smell a human they’d likely be cautious but curious about something unknown to them. The blood of seals, whales, and almost all other fish on the other hand.......well, the Meg certainly nails what would happen in this scene.
@alexisgrunden1556

That caution is exactly why the overwhelming majority of shark attacks aren't fatal. They're not really chomping, per se, so much as...nibbling. This is something about this current state of movies that I say to my friends all the time and I know has been said here in the Star Wars Episode 1 review, what’s wrong with going to a movie and having fun. Not worry about how scientifically accurate it is or how it is compared to a different franchise. Movies are entertainment, your supposed to enjoy them. Why not have fun and not get so upset that it wasn’t what you expected or what you wanted. Just give yourself to the movie. Have fun everyone!!!
@kindairish2562
@kindairish2562 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on how the movie presents itself, what it is trying to achieve, and how well it pulls it off. There is nothing virtuous about turning your brain off to enjoy a movie, and there is nothing immoral about calling out flaws. What people can't get their heads around is the difference between entertainment and quality. This is why I give every movie I watch two scores, one in entertainment and one in artistic merit. One is highly subjective and the other is more measurable. Enjoy the movies you want, pick apart the movies you want, let other people do the same and keep enjoying the medium of film.

I’ll say… it’s the audience’s duty to suspend their disbelief, but it’s also the filmmakers’ duty not to immediately start “break the piñata” with it. I’m okay with fun movies, but the line between “wrong but fun” and “too wrong to feel fun” is very thin and way too often crossed at high speed.

The main thing that drags this film down, other than it's use of clichés, is it's insistence on trying to present Jack Morris as the 'Bad Guy': - *Firstly,* he was willing to spend a fortune on scientific research based solely on a theory presented to him by a top Marine scientist - *Secondly,* even though he initially wanted to profit from the Megalodon, he never hides this from anyone and even makes the valid point that if they don't do it, somebody else will, before having an open discussion with everyone on how to do so without endangering anymore lives - *Thirdly,* when they do decide to ultimately go kill it, he's quite helpful and even saves Jaxx's life - *Fourth,* while he did lie about telling the authorities, even as the Billionaire Owner of Mana One his word has only slightly more credibility than anyone else on-board, and it wouldn't be surprising if the authorities just wrote it off as a bored rich guy messing around if he did tell them to look out for a 'Giant Long-Thought to be Extinct Species of Killer Shark', offering his crew some words of comfort and making up a scenario where he'd told them and 'believed' him would've be helpful during such a stressful time - *Finally,* he chose to go out and kill the Megalodon himself when he could of just as easily ran off and feigned ignorance of the whole thing, and his plan to do so wouldn't of been much different from a Military response (who also would've likely kept quiet about the Megalodon to avoid mass public panic) and would've worked if it wasn't for an unforeseen whale been nearby

Couple extra wins for you - at 3:01, the gliders are named Ernest Shackleton and Richard Byrd. Ernest Shackleton served in the Royal British Navy and led multiple expeditions to Antarctica (the Discovery in 1901, the Nimrod in 1907, and the Endurance in 1914). Richard Byrd served in the U.S. Navy and made a trip to the North Pole in 1926 (although somewhat disputed) and also had 3 expeditions to Antarctica (1928, 1934, and 1939). He also was in charge of Operation Deep Freeze to establish permanent bases at McMurdo Sound, the Bay of Whales, and the South Pole. Pretty clever to name your exploration gliders after 2 famous explorers ;)

I was a massive fan of the book when it first came and have been waiting for this movie for years. They were originally going to do it years ago but deep blue sea helped kill the project. then other false starts over the years. and honestly, this was pretty much everything i could have hoped for. i loved what they did with this movie. I do miss the trex kill at the start that the book had, but everything else was gold. and I actually kinda loved you made the Jonah and the whale joke twice and even called it out, since the biggest change in this movie from the book was the ending. spoilers for the book . . . . . . . . the name was much more on the nose in the book since the finale is him rescuing her like here, but getting stuck inside the shark and literally cutting his way through it and stabbing the shark's heart with a fossilized Megalodon tooth he had been carrying around.

I'm excited for the sequel. Don't really care if they follow the books or not. Honestly, I loved the first book (save for the character of his cheating wife), but while I read it, I kept thinking that it would be almost a bit slow if they followed the entire story of the book in the movie. Plus with the pov changes with the shark, and it wouldn't really be anything of fast action until the middle/end of the book. (Kinda would have been like the slogfest that was the last 2 Harry Potter movies, imo the worst ones in the series)

Yeah, that was a change from the book that ticked me off. Jonas wasn't a deep sea rescuer or whatever he is here, but a pilot who saw the meg, panicked, and released all his ballast at once, causing them to surface far too fast and killing the researchers in with him and almost killing him too.

When my parents found out about this film there was a lot of 'The Meg' jokes :) Loved this video a lot! Please can you consider doing an EGA Hunt for the Wilderpeople xx

something you missed: when the meg is being eaten by the sharks, you can see the little baby meg swimming away setting up the sequel just like in the novels

Sorry... 0.34: Its not a Geiger counter he's holding up a respirator and a thin plastic overall would not stop and substantial radiation. No. Nuclear subs use lead-acid batteries, when sea water leaks in to those batteries a chemical reaction occurs which produces chloride, a toxic gas which will dissolve your lungs in high concentrations. So what he is holding up is a chloride detector to see the concentration of chloride in the air. This would also explain the large can-like Type B gas filter on his mask. 2.14: The last thing anyone with and biological experience will tell you that the last thing you want to do as you explore a brand new ecosystem is to drop white lights into a previously pitch black area. Best case scenario is that you blind all life with eyes forever with the sharp increase in light intensity. Worst case scenario is as the lights continue to glow some of the unique structures down there will begin to break down. (At least use red lights!) 2.30: Coral (as we know it) is photosynthetic so there is no way it could survive in a pitch black environment. 4.27: Can someone explain to me why exactly you would need flares on an EXPLORATION sub?... 5.33: Typically animals that live at the bottom of the sea tend to stay at the bottom of the sea as by rising; and so being under less pressure; would probably cause the meg to explode! ("Deep sea fish sometimes arrive at the surface with their inner organs popped out of their mouth!") 7.51: How are the lights still on when the entire crane wig is now free falling to the ocean floor? DISCLAIMER: I am not a scientist and I will be the first to admit it if I am wrong. Overall loved the video and the movie. Keep it going. ( -:
