Everything Republicans Would Rather Ban than Guns

It's been a year since the Uvalde school shooting, and guns are still the leading cause of death for children in America.
But the GOP would rather ban books, pride flags, and trans kids playing sports than ban a single assault rifle.
It’s ‘woke’ bans over children’s lives.

Anyone ever notice that when we talk about the "gun problem" in this country, regardless of what details make up the statistics in gun violence, not one mention of mental health investment and awareness is actually made. Making the presumption that all acts which make up the statistics were made by people who rationally went out of their way to purchase and go through any existing state and federal laws/regulations to owning a legal firearm for which then said person set out and planned what exactly and where exactly they were going to commit said gun violence.

An assault rifle is a SEMI/FULLY AUTOMATIC rifle solely designed for military use in combat. Some notable examples are the m249 squad automatic Weapon, m240, m14, m16, AK-47, FN SCAR MK17, and the sig XM7. Examples of modern sporting civilian SEMI automatic rifles are the AR-15, AR-10, and any CIVILIAN rifles based off the military variant that can only fire in SEMI automatic, some notable examples are the SIG MCX-SPEAR, AK-47, FN SCAR 17S. A couple examples of weapons of war that are NOT being banned even tho they are “Trying” to ban “weapons of war” the 1911, M1 garand, and allot of other semi automatic rifles, revolvers, shotguns, and bolt action rifles designed for the military during and before WWII. These LITERAL weapons of war are ok in their eyes but guns that were designed solely for civilian use are bad.

GOOGLE it. Don't let people spoon feed you. Think whatever you want. Just do it critically and with genuine intellectual honesty. The 5 Steps to Critical Thinking: What is critical thinking? In general, critical thinking refers to actively questioning statements rather than blindly accepting them. Critical thinking results in radical free will. 1. The critical thinker is flexible yet maintains an attitude of healthy skepticism. Critical thinkers are open to new information, ideas, and claims. They genuinely consider alternative explanations and possibilities. However, this open-mindedness is tempered by a healthy sense of skepticism (Hyman, 2007). The critical thinker consistently asks, “What evidence supports this claim?” 2. The critical thinker scrutinizes the evidence before drawing conclusions. Critical thinkers strive to weigh all the available evidence before arriving at conclusions. In evaluating evidence, critical thinkers distinguish between empirical evidence versus opinions based on feelings or personal experience. 3. The critical thinker can assume other perspectives. Critical thinkers are not imprisoned by their own points of view. Nor are they limited in their capacity to imagine life experiences and perspectives that are fundamentally different from their own. Rather, the critical thinker strives to understand and evaluate issues from many different angles. 4. The critical thinker is aware of biases and assumptions. In evaluating evidence and ideas, critical thinkers strive to identify the biases and assumptions that are inherent in any argument (Riggio & Halpern, 2006). Critical thinkers also try to identify and minimize the influence of their own biases. 5. The critical thinker engages in reflective thinking. Critical thinkers avoid knee-jerk responses. Instead, critical thinkers are reflective. Most complex issues are unlikely to have a simple solution. Therefore, critical thinkers resist the temptation to sidestep complexity by boiling an issue down to an either/or, yes/no kind of proposition. Instead, the critical thinker expects and accepts complexity (Halpern, 2007). Critical thinking is not a single skill, but rather a set of attitudes and thinking skills. As is true with any set of skills, you can get better at these skills with practice. In a nut shell, critical thinking is the active process of minimizing preconceptions and biases while evaluating evidence, determining the conclusions that can be reasonably be drawn from evidence, and considering alternative explanations for research findings or other phenomena. CRITICAL THINKING QUESTIONS >Why might other people want to discourage you from critical thinking? >In what situations is it probably most difficult or challenging for you to exercise critical thinking skills? Why? > What can you do or say to encourage others to use critical thinking in evaluating questionable claims or assertions?

Does he realize they’ve already taken away rights to assault weapons? Like this is a genuine question, can he or any of these anti gun people define what an assault weapon is without using ar 15 or ak47. Because they are all banned and an ar15 isn’t even an assault rifle. It’s a civilian version of the m16 and m4 that was made for civilians. Another point of mine is that how about that we do something about mental health in this country. Because if we helped people not commit suicide then those gun death numbers would be halved. Like actually. And if we helped people instead of taking away weapons for them to only do the same thing but with an illegal weapon or In a barbaric way where they beat each other to death

@@alexmaurice4274Yeah, banning books about sexuality that are targeted to children, specifically books confusing children by making them think they can just pick a gender, that shit shouldn’t exist in the first place. That’s not freedom for a kid to be coached in to reading that, it’s straight up psychological attack and preying on the young and the weak to support part of the democratic agenda in regard to diversity. But I do agree that mental illness needs to be heavily addressed and action needs to be taken. So much evil and violence in this world today. And it seemed to just start booking in this last decade. There should never be a time when the talk of banning guns should be a thing, but certainly now is NOT the time to even think about it. Banning some of the best self defense tools in a time where violence is everywhere is like banning water when a house is on fire because some people drown in it.

From a Vietnamese perspective, what is wrong with America constantly debating the ban on guns? People argue that guns are for protection and that banning them would only make things worse. Have you compared the school shooting and gun-related death rates in your country to those in other countries? Many people I know in Vietnam would never have thought that one day, their children could be shot dead going to school, regardless of the grade, or when they and their families go to a public place. There's a chance that someone with ill intentions, having a bad day or just for the thrill of it, might start a mass shooting or armed robbery. Don't you feel silly? Don't you feel stupid?

My first contention is that all arms control is tyrannical. For this we would discuss the history of rights. Talk about true rights which are negative/natural rights and why positive rights aren't actual rights. Then we would get into what the Bill of Rights is, the intent, and some compromises made for those who didn't want a Bill of Rights. Next the wording, meaning, and intent of 2A with clear definitions of key terms and a discussion on the prefatory and operative clauses. We would then have to dive into some general reasoning and history of military models and tyranny along with more modern democide. We would talk about surpreme court rulings and what they mean. My second contention is that arms control has never been shown to reduce crime anywhere in the world in any time period. (Nor can you even use this sort of "interest balancing" to legally defend arms control") This is where we would jump into a general discussion on data analysis and clear up some defintions, concerns with datasets, and a discussion of what issues arise when trying to compare data between locations over time. Of course we could dive deeper into all kinds of pertinent topics. I can speak to these topics from many perspectives. Data analysis, history of tyranny, liberty and rights, trauma medicine and wounding mechanisms, ballistics, weapons design, criminal tactics and trends, self defense and force disparity, first responder protocols, training and stress inoculation, cover vs concealment, etc.

Those are not hard questions to answer. It's just hard to phrase in ways that the extremist opposing these measures would understand. A woman is either a woman by biological sex or neurological gender. An assault rifle is one that has higher rates of fire and larger ammo capacity that has little legitimate use other than on other people. These are not weapons that are necessary for shooting sports,these are for the purpose of use on other people. Even if they claim otherwise, the characteristics just don't serve any real purpose besides mowing down people and being a penis compensator. The line will be a bit fuzzy, but considering that bump stocks were legal, it's fuzzy for a reason.

We don't need 'assault rifles' to protect ourselves but they do... makes sense.

I agree with you on a great many points, but I don't think any of your gun reform efforts are in the right direction. Guns are semi-automatic whether or not they are "assault rifles" so regular handguns will be just as responsible for deaths in the future. Also, what do I do when a guy with an illegally obtained assault rifle beats down my door when our food system fails? He wants my food, I have food, he has the gun with better recoil control and penetrative capability. He can shoot through my wood walls, I can't even hit him. What about when the military collapses and soldiers beat down your door to take your food too? So they have the upper hand? I think that a lot of things need reform, and I have voted democrat many times, but I think the direction gun control is headed is both unconstitutional, misdirected and misinformed. What's the common link between all school shooters? Mental health issues. And you might hear "They were not found to be insane though!" However, going to a school for children and massacring them in any context is categorically insane behavior. Support free mental healthcare, support inclusivity for communities that feel unheard, support diversity and normalize taking care of your mental health. Normalize eating healthy, drinking clean water and healthcare. People need something to hope for, not just a blanket ban on a small percentage of guns. Many school shootings were committed with handguns, and banning guns entirely will just shift it to people using chemicals, explosives and knives as evidenced in Canada, the UK and parts of the Middle East. I respect you, respect all parts of this conversation, but I think we're headed in the wrong direction based on a couple basic principles. People's behavior is liquid, create a container that supports them in a way that doesn't let them slip through the cracks.

Thanks for your thoughts. I feel the horse has already left the barn sometimes. But then I look at the numbers of firearms in the US compared to the populations of other countries and it just floors me. When oh when are Americans going to admit that 4 firearms for every man, woman and child is utterly insane? There are just too many guns. Keeping them around in case of distopian chaos is not solving the problem either although I can understand how some people are scared. Canada, the UK and Middle East have problems too, but not to the extent of the US and you really can't compare them. Guns are just so damn easy. And the firearms lobby/manufacturers are just laughing and laughing. And the US people ... are suffering.

If as much money was spent on lobbying to prevent a dystopia and failure of systems and society as for access to arms you would not have to worry about a weird apocalyptic hypothetical. Chances are though in your hypothetically you won't do anything. Because even if you had an AR if the other guy does too the smart move to get your food is to wait until you are asleep and just shoot through the walls and kill you before you can wake up and grab your gun. Also likely that someones already set up as a war lord and they out number you anyway. Unless you've teamed up with neighbors and raided the military armory first and someone is good at defense you will probably be in a bad position for winning. Still I agree with the social support structures.

Not a stupid question, as the statements by other commentators demonstrates, since they now do not wish to visit USA. Your response: people move to USA because oh high standard of living. Absolutely true. It is not the highest. Leaving out dictatorships and microstates, Ireland, Switzerland and Norway all have higher, even much higher (IRE) per capital income. I do suspect that in terms of the numbers of legal immigrants USA would be high up there. Less so during Trump administration where he cut by 49%. These are just facts. Make of them what you wish in your argument. Myself, I am Canadian. The gun violence in USA has ballooned since the Cincinnati coup of the NRA. I am less likely to visit. I am also very worried about the influence of NRA in Canada, where the large majority would prefer to see gun laws as in NZ, AUS, UK. I have to say that UK firearm homicide statistics amaze me. Can any democrats even define what a woman is, let alone what an assault weapon is?
@LC-sc3en
@LC-sc3en Жыл бұрын
Categories are arbitrarily selected combinations of traits that facilitate easier communication by providing a shorter way to communicate that the subject in question likely has a handful of traits. Skyscraper, building, hut. Are all categories that communicate whole sets of shared traits. But there are other ways we could have categorized these things. Such as workplace, community center, home. The way the categories are defined are arbitrary but socially agreed upon. A woman is a category of human being as is a man. People are currently disagreeing on what traits are required to be put in the women category. However, as human beings women and men are legally equal. They are subject to the same laws, rights, and prohibitions. So when it comes to the definition of that category, frankly, I don't give a d*n. We can switch to 5 genders like some other ancient cultures for all I care and it wouldn't change the fact that everyone should be treated with respect, dignity, and allowed their freedom under the law. Asides from being equal in law most everyone is equally dealdy when armed with ranged weapons too. An assault style rifle is rifles that can be rapidly fired (automatic or semi automatic) and has its design promoted to adults and as a tool for self defense and machismo due to how closely it resembles the weapons our soldiers use (some are actually just a semi auto version of the ones in current use by the military). I hope me feeding you has made you feel a bit of joy. Just remember even if you are a troll, you have worth as a human being. I suppose you could also be a bot, in which case... bad bot. 😊

You can't yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theater. We have laws on top of laws on top of laws. With that said, there is a massive gun death problem in this country that isn't anywhere in the stratusphere in most other developed nations. The US has more guns than all other nations combined. It's clear that more guns isn't the answer. We know that less works because of the assault weapons ban in the 90's that reduced gun violence noticeably.

@@alexmaurice4274The true middle is a good balance of freedom and order. Complete freedom is chaos. We can easily determine a good balance by understanding that the objective in life is survival. This is the way this dimension operates. Guns are a means of protection. It allows people to survive from potential attacks. This is why even prey animals have natural «weapons» like claws, horns, antlers, venom ... etc .. to protect themselves from predators. If an individual has committed multiple murders and shows no signs of stopping, they are a threat to society. They should be eliminated. The books in question are books designed to confuse the sexuality of the younger generation. By doing so, we potentially create a scenario in which these future generations do not procreate, threatening the survival of our species. That’s why they should be banned.

If you add assault rifles and handguns to the NFA, it will make a really long wait between purchase and ownership. It is also an extensive background check, must be 21, and you cannot transfer an assault rifle without going through a licensed dealer and a background check.
