In days long gone by people became wealthy by "making" money. That is, they made stuff and sold it for more than it cost to make. Similarly, they provided services that the rest of us needed and couldn't manage ourselves. Today, as Reich so clearly points out, the richest among us, (wait, are they really "among" us?) no longer make stuff. Well, some of them make stuff up, but I won't go into names of orange haired failed presidents who might fall into that category, because that's another matter. Today, especially once a wealth base has been established, manipulation provides the bigger ROI than does production or service. Manipulation of markets, manipulation of governments, ours and others, manipulation of our perception of reality. Theses are the investments of today, and probably the near future. It will either change or collapse.
