As of right now, you cannot view the Nest Doorbell on Amazon Echo Devices, SmartThings and so on. I will update here with changes and when I have a better idea of the typical battery life.

hey Brett just set mine up but using the talk and listen function i can barely hear myself through the doorbell using my phone any thoughts on how to fix this?? edit the talk and listen volume is at max setting

From what I have tried the best thing to do is to talk through your phone like you are on the phone. That gave the best quality and loudness on the doorbell end.

Brett: I see you had the Gen1 installed before. I do too and am about to purchase another doorbell for a secondary door with existing wiring. Which do you recommend in this situation?

@@TechWithBrett there is a known bug that the new nest cameras talk-back is not working with any Samsung phones. A lot of Samsung phone users like myself are really pissed.

Little tip. If you turn off outside of zone notifications it massively increases your battery life. I'm getting around 2.5 months currently. Personally I don't need to know every time a car drives down my street, someone walks down the public sidewalk, or an animal runs across my lawn.

Personal experience, functionality when wired offers way quicker response time. When in battery use, the camera sits in idle mode and takes quite a bit longer to bring up camera feed. It also lags when beginning to record when motion is detected. Definitely worth wiring IMO.

Thank you so much for this video!! I am a long time Ring customer and I am used to my phone going off a certain way when it rings and w/motion. Does this door bell do this? I got this doorbell yesterday and mine does not swipe like yours does when you showed the % and time the battery would last. Mine only shows the percentage. Is there a way i can check to see if needs an update?

awesome! first obvious answer to how to turn off the notifications on specific speakers! still wondering what other (if any) doorbells will automatically show the feed on the hub and how they integrated smart door locks? ideally, the feed would stream if someone rings the door, and the feed would also have an unlock button?

Hi have you figured out a best way to get notifications when someone press the doorbell battery? The notifications on my cellphone is a little delayed.. I need real time announcements. We rent and this house doesn't have an indoor chime box either so we are using doorbell battery

if you guys want instant notification, wiring it is the best way to go. the performance is considerably faster, your mobile will get notified sooner, and you will also get instant chime by having a wired one installed.

Hey, Brett! Love the channel, longtime viewer. So, I wondered if you can recommend the best smart lock to go with the Nest Doorbell battery. I have put off getting a lock until I decided on the right doorbell, so now I need to look into the right one. I want to be able to automatically unlock the door when the Nest doorbell sees who it is...or when my phone gets in close proximity. Thanks for the help. Keep up the great work!!!!

Does the camera give you notifications about things like your own activity? For example, when you leave the house for work in the morning, does it notify you about it? What about when you check the mail? If so, is there a way to adjust these kinds of things so that you ca minimize those things, and really just have it let you know about when folks who don't live there get hear your home?

Can you choose certain people who you dont want notifications for? For example if I have a tennant who will probably walk past my door quite often I dont want to be notifies when he walks past, but I do want to be notified about other people.

I have the Google battery doorbell and bought the Google nest mini gen2 speaker and the battery powered doorbell does not ring on the mini gen2 speaker. Was told that the battery version doorbell won't work with the mini gen2 speaker. So took the speaker back. Any recommendations other than using the Google home app on my phone?

Thank you for this great explanation. The part that still seems odd to me (and maybe I'm missing something here) is that I do not have the functions for viewing on the Google Hub that I have on my Android phone app. For example: On my phone app I can see a history events that took place in the camera by simple scrolling through them. It's simple and very useful. However, I cannot find a way to see these same events on the Hub which seem like a huge oversight. Is there a way?

There is not a way to do this and that is a really great request. You can send feedback through Google Assistant to let them know this is something you would like to see.

So familiar faces work WITHOUT a Nest Aware subscription? Thanks Brett! As always Brian and your videos are super helpful! I got a great deal on the original Nest Doorbell at Home Depo. The doorbell and a Nest Hub for $149 :) It was in Nov of 2018. So, I'm going to hold off and see if they repeat the same sort of pricing/deal for the the holidays.

hi there im not looking at getting an expensive doorbell. i just want to know if im able to have a doorbell in my 2nd floor apartment. i want it wirelessly and info i got was itll reach 30meters wirelessly and i believe it will be ok but i just want to make sure and not waste money. the thing is the phone doorbell to my apartment is in the hallway corridor of my place and i cant here it most times because i like to use headphones when watching tv or whatever. so im always missing parcels.

Hey, This is a great instruction video. I went through the similar situation and it's really helpful. Question. Before I installed Google battery doorbell, the house doesn't have any wires. It had a chime with wireless doorbell. Recently, I wired power with transformer and installed google doorbell battery (with wired), however, I have not been successful to connect or install any chime inside of my house. How can I install physical chime inside of house? I don't hear any chime sound from the inside. My phone only shows banner notification without sound, so basically I have no sound to be notified when there's a visitor. Thank you

Hi, I don't get any motion detection except for directly in front of the camera. I need detection for some distance. I made the settings high to try to get the distance I need. I read that it only detects up to 20 ft, I need more as to where I live

Brett, we live in an apartment that won't let us drill into the outside of the apartment.... Do you know if the doorbell would work being mounted toa command strip? (I understand how that makes it easier to steal 😅)

Oh good question. Are there extra strength outdoor command strips? Something like that might work as long as you can get the mount to stick on it. The doorbell won't work without the mount so it is what needs to have a strong connection. My worry is it only lasts for a short time and falls and damages the device.

Where does the video footage get saved to? locally to the device or to the cloud? I have a Google One account (Google Drive) and it has the ability to save terabytes of data.

It is saved to the cloud but as far as I am aware it doesn't take up your Google One storage.

No you don't. You can still view the stream and you can receive notifications on your phone or on Google Home speakers.

Great video Brett. Seeing reviews saying 15 seconds after pressing the bell to the homepod / speakers alerting you. Can you confirm that as that seems a little long. I’ve got the Ring 3 at the moment & that’s more or less instant to the plug in bell speaker. Thank you

Sort of. There are 2 things. 1. 3 hours of event history for free. These are only available to be view 3 hours from the time of the event. After that it is not longer saved. 2. Paid Nest Aware event history that stores 30-60 days of events on your account. There is no limit to events stored in those time frames, and the duration depends on what duration you have set events in the app.

The notification on the phone is poor imo. Is there any way to let it ring like a chime in your phone? For now it just makes a sound of getting a text message, which can be missed easily. My Ring doorbell app did a clear and loud chime sound when somebody pressed the button. Or am I overlooking something? I don’t like having smart speakers in my house, so Nest speakers aren’t an option, I have enough with my phone being able to listen my conversations.

It might be worth mentioning that they updated the app and now there are different sounds available for the doorbell (throughout the year as opposed to the seasonal ones).

Did it miss any event recording? As long as if the doorbell doesnt miss any event recording then doesnt required 24hour recording. But if it is missing some recording then really have to consider for another 24hour door bell already. Please let me know ya it would help me a lot and thank you in advance.

Another big missing feature is you can view this camera (or any of the new cams) on your computer's browser. I ended up returning it and went back to my older NEST HELLO doorbell

Great Review. Questions...without the paid subscription, I know you said it has 3 hours of record time. My question is does it just record the times it is triggered on totaling up to 3 hours? Just got mine a week ago, it’ll only save the video (event) for 3hours so if something happens at 12:00 you have until 3:00 to go into the app and view what happened. You can always download the video (event) to your phone and that’s free

The paid subscription will keep the event/recordings saved for like 30 or 60 days I believe

Just wanted to ask, have you got a Samsung phone? We have found talking from a Samsung phone to the doorbell has issues, you can't hear who is talking from the phone on the bell (voice is very quiet) plus the person talking at the bell hears a repeat. Happens with 2 Samsung phones we've tested & a Samsung tablet. But works fine with other brands of phones. 🤔

If you want to wire the doorbell but are only using Google Speakers for notifications (so no chime), do you need to still use a transformer?

A transformer will still be required to give the doorbell the proper volts to be powered. A chime would not be needed.

I know it doesn't do 24/7 recording, but I've been seeing the video feed stop on my Hubs after roughly 8-10 minutes. Are you experiencing this as well? I have it wired and strong wifi signal from my Nest Mesh wi-fi. Great video!

So I didn't some testing and my feed stayed open on my Nest Hub Max for over an hour while I was wired in. Not sure why it would keep stopping.

From what I have seen it didn't. Wired it arounf 58% and after a week I unplugged it and it showed 58%.

What if I have 1st gen doorbell and 2nd gen, I need use 2 apps?

As of now, yes. If you have migrated your Nest account to a Google account your will be able to view both cameras in the Google Home app. But as of now you will only see notifications from the Nest Hello (1st Gen) in the Nest app.

In the video I could notice you have added a Nintendo Switch and a Wii U. Are those the plugs to power these consoles, or is it something else?

Those are actually controlled by my Logitech Harmony Hub and show up in the Google Home app so I change to the correct inputs by voice. It actually turns on the Wii U which is cool. Video about that: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d6ePZZSEps7FqoE.html

It is a shame that they went from the 10 day 24x7 recording to event recording. This is a great device and love the upgrade though. Thanks for the info! Keep up the great work! We are building a home and so I'm trying to figure out what smart things I'm going to go with. PS, your boy is such a stud!
