Do you enjoy the puzzling storytelling of FromSoftware or would you rather have them to be more straight forward with their lore and stories?

I suspect the DLC story will focus on Miquella and possibly also Godwyn, since those are the two most notable characters we never truly encountered in the base game. (Weird static corpse monuments don't really count as characters.) IIRC there have been hints that the DLC may deal with the spirit world/realm of the dead which could tie into Godwyn. I do not believe we'll have to beat the game to access the DLC, nor do I think we'll do so in any late game or particularly high level area. (For example necessitating defeating Mohg, as some have theorized.) That just isn't FromSoft's style - while their DLCs tend to be brutally hard, they're usually accessible relatively early for people who want a serious challenge. My best bet would be that you gain access to the DLC content somewhere around Altus. That's basically where the game gets serious and is far enough along that you can have a pretty solid build going on if you're playing normally, but it's also totally possible to reach Altus quickly from the start of the game without beating any bosses if you know what you're doing. I also agree that the main area for the DLC will likely be in the clouded center of the map, since that seems like a space reserved for new content. Though, part of me is also hoping for an expansion of the underground, which I think offers a a lot of handy space for new areas without having to send you into an alternate dimension or something.

Do we know what is going to happen to our current level and rune and items? I'm wondering if I should start new game, start one where one where I'm half way through, or use my completed game fine.

To answer your question: I really dislike cutscenes. A story in a video game is always told better through gameplay, worldbuilding and enviromental storytelling. Good example is the fact that most NPC dialogue in souls games doesn't lock your character into place, or switch to a dialogue camera like Bethesda games for instance. Taking away control from the player is never a good thing in a game. And in the rare case of a cutscene, they usually are short and actually interesting in all the souls games.

Haven't jumped into the colosseum yet. Very excited for the Erdtree DLC though!

I'm happy for them to take their time. They always do a great job but it'll be even better if they have enough time to make it exceptional. :)

I dont think it will be released soon, we'll likely get a trailer in February and the actual DLC this summer, it may even be a 2025 release but i dont think that's likely.

Can’t wait for the dlc . Gonna take a crack at Sekiro in the meantime so I can gitgud at parrying and learn not to rely on summons since Elden ring was my first and only souls game so far

I really don't understand peoples complaints with it "taking too long". Id prefer they kept it unreleased until they truly feel its ready. Thats how Fromsoft keeps its quality over the years. Every DLC release previous to Elden ring has always had a decent period of time in development. Thats on games significantly smaller, theres so much in Elden ring it only makes sense they wanna have a DLC thats generally of the same scale and quality and itll take awhile. Not to mention after the success of their first attempt at open worlds and Armored cores success in the meantime they're probably trying to push it to its limit. I trust Fromsoft to make the time it takes to release worth it.

FromSoftware games are the only games where I do not follow the story at all and it does not bother me one bit, because everything else is simply awesome. Something about an Elden Lord? Cool, whatever... uh, what is behind this door I am wondering.

I don't mind fromsofts story telling methods but i do wish we got at less one game where we are there during the main major event instead of centuries after. kinda like how bioshock 1 and 2 is post shit going down kinda wish we had a bioshock infinite equivalent souls like game in terms of were a key player in the main events.

Mastered the obscure storytelling? Mastery would imply apropriate amount as to give reson characters to act in narative while also leaving enogh questions for fanbase to come up whit their own answers, elden ring fails at former and in doing so makes characters actions ilogical lessening value of questions. Dark souls 2 and bloodborne were best at balancing obscurity while still having characters act resonably, but fromsoft seems to think that obscurity for its own sake is the key in other words they simplified their aproach, degrading their once mastery on the subject.

Sad to see how Elden Ring has not used its success to improve the current PC port to make the game more enjoyable - immersive and just overall better. PC versions should not be launched with console locked features like framerates and close to zero keymapping. And even better soulslikes of 2023 launched with Ultra-Wide support (Lies of P) while FromSoft has done nothing for over two years to update any of these now basic features in 2024. Another niche genre game in BG3 got the GOTY in 2023 and offered ALL those features and many more. At the same time - FromSoft launched another PC port with locked framerates - no ultra wide support and very limited key mapping support. It got nowhere near GOTY for obvious reasons btw.
