Let me add this one thing. There is a video of the stage show. NONE of the cockroaches or the mice or the breaking into another cat's house is in there. It's just the MAIN cat, announcing that it's time to choose who gets to be taken to the Heavenside Layer to be reborn to a new Jellicle life. The rest of the play is cats telling you about themselves with the Glamor Cat getting harassed by the others throughout the play until she sings "Memory." I want to thank you for running this. It shows me that I was right in missing this abomination.

The name "Jellicle" comes from an unpublished poem by Eliot entitled "Pollicle Dogs and Jellicle Cats", where "Pollicle dogs" is a corruption of "poor little dogs" and "Jellicle cats" of "dear little cats".

As someone who doesn't even know anything about the original cats, I can say for a fact, if I watched this at the cinemas, I would cry. Not even for wasting my money, just for the fact that I'd have to live with that experience.

I have a lot to say about this movie but instead I’ll just point out a few things. 1) Victoria was one of 5(?) kittens in the original stage production, it was supposed to be their first time attending the ball since they had just hit banging age. 2) Victoria wasn’t actually the cat that helped redeem grizabella, her only roll was to take her hand to physically make her a jellicle again. 3) you know that part with the weird breakdancing moment that lasted forever? Yea in the stage show that was just an orgy

the old gumpie cat is actually such a fun song in the 1998 version! the cat whos supposed to song the first part "i have a gumpie cat in mind" to "and thats what makes a gumpie cat" is munkustrap and then jellylorum, bombalurina, and demeter (might've misspelled names and also gotten them mixed up) sing the fast paced part starting at "but when the days hustle and bustle is done" and then they sing about how jennyanydots (the gumpie cat) helps out the mice and roaches and the 3 girls and munkustrap pass the tempo/song back and fourth to show that during the day, the cat sleep around and hangout out but at night shes active. its literally just saying "this cat is basically nocturnal". also the 1998 version is WAYYY funner and cooler PLUS no scatting mice! and also good costumes and the song is actually performed properly

Okay, I feel really conflicted now. I only watched two minutes and forty seconds so far, but this is the first time I actually consider leaving without finishing the video, and not coming back. And that on a movie that should be so easy to sin. It makes me really sad, cuz Cinemasins is one of my favorite channels. Some of the first videos I watched came from here, and some of the classics are still in my 'makes me happy' folder for emergencies, when I need cheering up. I did notice over the years, how more and more videos were stretched out, adding sins that weren't really sins, like stuff that was explained in the movie, or it reminded you of a worse movie, or something was called a cliche, when it was just a story element or tool that's commonly used, but wasn't bad in itself or the context. But I didn't mind so much, because I loved the narrators acting, the over-the-top reactions, and just saw it as another layer of satire, ya know, sinning bad parts, but also sinning good parts to acknowledge them, mocking yourself. Or in your words: 'We're idiots!' Also, why is it a sin for the cats to rhyme, seemingly making it up, speaking gibberish if you will... isn't that the point? They are cats (or supposed to be cats), creatures that always act way to confident and self absorbed, thinking they get away with anything. At least that's how we perceive them (maybe humans are just too shy and fragile, and they are doing it right, but that's another story). So isn't this just character building, or character introduction? As in: “These are the cats, and they're full of themselves!” I could really forgive you to sin the cats for acting like cats in a movie called Cats, like you do within these 2 minutes! If you did it with passion, like you had a personal vendetta with them, or a real phobia, but the way you sound, Am I missing the point of your sins? Please explain! I really love this channel, because I love good stories, I love picking on the bad ones, and I really wanted to see you shred this movie, because I love musicals too, and loved Cats, as crazy as it is, so I really wanted you to point out all the disappointments of this adaptation, which are plenty. I was ready to smirk in delight at this trash being at the mercy of your wit. And instead, not three minutes in, I'm instead sad. Genuinely sad. And these sins, if they weren't actual sins like: 'day turns to night, turns to day in one car chase', or 'unimportant character from the beginning is suddenly an important part of the team, without any build-up before the show down', these sins seemed to be just props for a joke. Or a tribute at times. But most of all, jokes. Like the classic: 'scene does not contain a lap dance'. I read/heard some found the joke too sexist, but you did start to play it on men too, so I saw nothing wrong with it as a way to release tension at times. And it can be explained: the comment can be a surprise in itself, like, 'why would Jeremy get impure thoughts at the sight of a mere carrot?', or it can highlight a suggestive situation, calling out the writers, either on playing into cliches, or using eye candy to cover for lack of story. But what is the joke in saying: “they are literally rhyming... badly”? The rhymes match up fine, the words can all be used to describe cats. Where is the sin? If no sin/mistake, where is the joke? If you'd just sinned dyspeptical, I could have understood, I had to look up the definition, and putting an emphasis on the word by sinning it could count as a joke. And grumpy cat was literally one of the first images that popped up, too! But rhyming? In a musical? Is this the third layer of satire I can't grasp? If so, please explain. If not, please explain, why? Just why? There are sins galore, and I'm sure you could do a bonus round, stretching the video, blowing up the sin counter, AND be funny, without just nonsensical sinning.

Thank goodness the month before "Cats" was released, Netflix gave us two different pieces of media to help us get away from those human-CGI-cat monstrosities. One is the thirteen-episode season based on a Dr. Seuss book, which could probably be the best Dr. Seuss adaptation, "Green Eggs and Ham". The other is a film directed by Sergio Pablos and made in his home-grown animation studio, that is an origin story of Santa Claus called "Klaus". Both of these pieces of media actually have quite a bit in common with each other. Both premiered on Netflix at the same time, both were praised for their excellent hand-drawn animation, and the dynamics of Klaus and Jesper get compared to Guy and Sam.

For every single frame of this cursed movie, add about 160,000 sins because the CGI is creepy

I saw the stage play in London in 1998 when I was 3. The cats came into the audience and I was so scared of them I started crying. Took me a few years to gain the courage to watch the 1997 VHS recording of the play without having nightmares

Biggest difference between Movie and Stage show: The Stage show was actual fun to see. It was music wise pleasing and overall a joy. BUT this, this is... something else.

Okay, I'll take a crack at one of these. The cemetery one is art imitating life: many old graveyards - especially urban ones - will have random headstones around, as a result of either, you know, shit falling over (the old, thin stones were not designed to stay upright forever), vandalism, or the boundaries of an old cemetery changing/another being closed. So you rebury a whole bunch of bodies in one big grave to save space, then just place their original headstones wherever you can, leaning up against walls or other stones.
