"this movie could have been dialogue free and still made the same amount of money" Funny enough, Wall-E, the first time I saw that was in french, couldn't understand a word of it but could understand the entire run of it and what was going on, it basically was dialogue free for me and my eyes were glued for hours and I paid for the experience I rewatchd it in English and still got the same experience

I know this movie is trash and all, but the *biggest* sin it has is forcing the fact that the Major is "beautiful". In the original, the Major uses the cheapest and most common body you can find on the market, it's described as borderline ugly and usually used by the lower class. This leads to some pretty trippy scenes where you can see other people using the same body in the background, specially in scenes when they're in the slums. This not only trimmed the production cost a little, but was also way more deep and meaningful.

When you said: "something that has never been explored before in the terminator, the matrix, ex machina..." actually Ghost in the Shell 1995 was actually the first one to come up with that concept and from there the matrix took inspiration even the director of the matrix when he was making the matrix showed his producer the ghost in the shell 1995 anime and said he wanted something like that

Shit, nothing against Japan or anything, but imagine how much worse it would be if they were the ones who adapted it. I swear Japanese can't make a live adaption to save their lives. I'd take Dragon Ball: Evolution over those two Attack on Titan movies any day. And don't even get me started on Death Note.

Well, the Puppet Master was also the Laughing Man and the leader of Individual 11. At least, his motives and stories seem to paint him that way. The big problem was, the Puppet Master wasn't a bad guy, yes he hacked people to take advantage of the ghosts they had, but would not do anything to harm them or endanger them.
@ServantofBaal
@ServantofBaal 7 жыл бұрын
Well... Puppet Master was actually the overmind construct of the Stand Alone Complex. Laughing Man got the ball rolling, but it became something much bigger than himself when everyone who felt oppression saw him as a hero and created a format to continue his legacy. And his character was more supposed to be a tragic hero fighting for justice for all the needless lives lost over the greed of corporations. His hacking was more of a self defense measure that he only used to censor or conceal his presence or deliver messages under circumstances that he himself could not be there for. Quite admirable, that he used his skills for hacking in an attempt to use a nonviolent approach to the solution

Right, the major flaw of the movie is Remake Syndrome. Which sucks because the world itself is beautiful, the acting is mostly good, and the effects are flawless. The problem is the generic plot substituted for the thing that mattered the most about the original film; the plot, the story, the characters.

bee chang The Great Wall is actually a co-production with Chinese studios and Universal. Which Universal was down for since it could release it here with the star power of Matt Damon, but also they wouldn't have to worry about it not being allowed in China since co-productions are exempt of China's 34 revenue sharing imports limit.

The thing I hate the most about this movie is its divergence from the original philosophy of the movie. Things like asking if what makes us human holds us back, and if that is a bad thing or not, being replaced for a movie that is mostly about "EVIL" coporations like every other dystopian piece of fiction is just not right.
@pwnorbepwned
@pwnorbepwned 6 жыл бұрын
Here is the actual worst part about the movie: everything you just described was supposed to be in it. Half an hour worth of scenes depicting the Major dealing with the philosophy of spirituality was cut from the movie, because they all involved her befriending a monk named Pazu. A Tibetan monk. China threw a hissy fit, and the movie bent to their cultural racism by cutting out all of those scenes. They had all been filmed. Tricky was Pazu’s actor. The star-power of this film would have been four-strong (Scarlett, Chin Han, Takeshi, and Tricky) with three of them being Asian, but instead we got three. So this movie did indeed suffer due to racism. Chinese racism.

I really don’t understand why people complained so much about “white washing”. She literally looks EXACTLY like the anime character this was based on. And the Japanese loved the movie. I felt the reason why the Major preferred the female body was no would suspect a woman to do the things she does, lighter and more agile than any male form and finally the creator was nothing but a naughty person who loved the female form.

The assassination, the intervination from the Major and so on. But I was off put by her human appears and unessecary sexuallisation of the Major. EX machina did a great job with beeing esthetic and dehumanize her at the same time. And for god sake. What's with the fish?!? But the movie itself is visual appealing and tries something different. Iron Man 2 is the one and only movie in the Marvel cinematic universe (Avengers 1&2 and all the individual movies) that I haven"t watched for some reasons, I heard it was total shit but I also heard that Sam Rockwell was the villain and I love this actor; especially when he play a villain, so should I watch this tonight, or not bother with it? I wasn't a big fan a Iron Man 3 (the villain was kinda cool I guess) and I enjoyed the first one, just clearly not as much as the majority. Thanks in advance for your advice
@michaelramsey82
@michaelramsey82 7 жыл бұрын
I'd say go ahead and watch it. It's a lot like most of the other Marvel movies. I'd say it's better than Iron Man 3, and certainly has some great scenes, but the plot doesn't fit together quite as tightly as Iron Man 1. Yes, Sam Rockwell is in it - not as the main supervillain, but as the evil corporate guy who ends up working for the supervillain. It's far from his best role, but he does a decent job. The best part of the movie is definitely Black Widow's action scenes, and I'd say it's worth watching for that alone, but it's also a fairly decent Marvel movie. It's a bit underrated, honestly - it's not a perfect movie but it's far from the worst in the MCU.

I was in this film as a featured extra. I played three different characters and you can spot me in a scene (yay). Thing is 2 of the three scenes I was in were cut from this film and I think that is the problem with this film is the studio cut the shit out of it as Jeremy rightly said to dumb it down. This could have been soooo much cooler and having met Rupert Sanders the guy was really cool, not arrogant and very approachable (bear in mind I was just a lowly extra though he still took the time to chat with me about a shot I was in which I found rare, his willingness to talk to a pleb like myself, I mean the conversation did start with me telling him that the shot was f&*king amazing, but still we chatted for a few minutes, very rare for big shot directors). Anyway, my point it, like David Arye on Suicide Squad, I feel for Mr Sanders as I could see the love he had for what he was making, I saw some of his vision, then I saw this pile of shit and I knew the the studio would have cut the f*&k out of it. I wouldn't judge the director on this, I would however tell the studio to fuck the fuck off, stop dumbing down movies and allow the audience to think for themselves, movies aren't tv where we a constantly reminded of shit, movie are there to challenge and make people think, studios don't like people thinking. Anyway, thats my little rant, cue the haters and people to flame me for whatever reason.

Blade Runner is an adaptation of a 1968 novel and came out in 1982. So it actually isn't all of them #NotAll dammit! HASHTAG!!!! That said, visually between '89 manga, '95 animation, 2017 film the visual aesthetic is more pulling from the things made in between. The original and film seemed more Blade Runner while this film seems more Fifth Element. But that just leaves this an ugly, muddled, overly busy eyesore half the time.

Ok one thing I need to correct you on: Funimation does not make anime. They just dub and add subtitles. Sony owning Funimation now has NOTHING to do with it. Because Funimation is an American company and the branch of Sony that bought Funimation is also American. American Companies are not IP Holders/owners of anime.... Now if Sony had say owned Madhouse or an actual anime studio like Gallop (aka Creators of Yugioh) , then your original post would make sense, because before something like a Live Action movie of Foreign Media can be made, the company that is going to produce the Live-Action movie has to go the the Original License Holder (whether it's a studio or person) of said IP and ask for permission to do this and that. Same went with Death Note, Netflix can't just go to Viz Media and ask to do this and that. They have to speak with Madhouse, and possibly even the Creator of Death Note, before any live action movie could be made.

I mean the thing with Major is she is a mass production android body (this is true in all GitS media), of course she won't look like herself. It's a rough movie and very shallow but they did at least consider some of these things

When they only concentrate on the visuals and completely forget what the movie was about...Sure just slap on a generic plot.

One thing I always loved about Ghost In The Shell, is there was no love story. Everyone always wants to turn shit into a giant love interest, I get so sick of having awesome expositions, amazing fights, funny banter, and everything else being replaced with sex scenes and people being lovey or even like lame pointless wifey hubby nonsense. It’s nice to give the sex and romance a break. And that’s one things that Americans always do. They make everything revolve around an edgy love story.

a 2 hour cash grab with very little charm all to answer 1 question we never really cared to know. A missed opportunity to tell the many stories of the star wars universe and they told a painfully insignificant story that left us not wanting more. the end

yep, I'm kinda getting the hang of distinguishing the Shiba inu (read: Doge) from the Akita (e.g. Hachiko the dog who waited for his master every day on the train station) (^-^)

"Also, maybe next time you could design me a little more culturally appropriate." Dude, in both the original anime and SAC The Major is said have a Caucasian appearance, even the original creator of GITS said that Scarlett Johansson would've been perfect for a live-action Major.

"Y'know, for a story that's supposedly set in Japan, there's VERY little Japanning happening..." Exactly how is Japan supposed to look in a technological future? I guess you're right, the cities in this movie look so much more like Rock Island, Illinois than they do Tokyo...
