Lethal Weapon is an all-time classic action film and a pioneer in the buddy-cop genre. But, like all movies, it has sins, and today is the day we decided to count them.
Next week: Christmas sins and bonkers action sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

He once said how he doesn't know if he has grandchildren(because he hadn't even talked with her for like 20yrs) and said it doesn't really care if he does and that ot doesn't matter. I took a precision rifle class last summer where we all were making shots on torso targets at 1000 yards. My friend's fiance went to the range with us the day after the class and she was able to make a 1000 yard shot on the same target. With modern equipment, a typical adult can make that shot with a small amount of training. Herbert Sleigh made a confirmed sniper kill at 1400 yards in 1918 during WWI. In 1967, US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock made a 2500 yard shot with the same sort of training and equipment that Riggs would have had. Hathcock also made multiple shots beyond 1000 yards.

It's more likely that the comment about 1,000 yd was made by a person who's never fired a gun and has no idea how to use one or what they were talking about. That's like saying his sin about there not being any gravity in space was done intentionally. He's funny, but there's just stuff he doesn't know about and he should not sin those things. For example science, the military, the English language, or weapons in general.

"This is Los Angeles, not New York" - 0:33 - Having lived in New York (Long island & Manhattan), California (San Jose & Monterrey), and Texas (Austin), here's my impression of the average person from each: Let's say there's somebody bleeding out on the sidewalk. The Austinite will call the ambulance & stay with the person until help arrives, chatting with them & doing what they can. The New Yorker will call the ambulance, but avoid contact with the person. They've got places to be. The Californian will not notice there's a person there as they're stepping over them. (This is obliviousness, not outright malice.) So I disagree with that particular sin. I've been a NYC resident for nearly 2 decades and visitor my whole life to see family. I've seen a crowd of 10 wait around and help an elderly man who fell and hit his head and was bleeding. A friend was hit by a driver who left the scene, but a dozen people stayed to help him until the ambulance came. I had a best friend get hit by a car while on her bike, and a big group helped her, including the driver, and waited until help came. And I've been ill during my morning commute - once crouched in a corner on a train platform on my way to the office waiting for a wave of nausea to pass by (before I knew I was pregnant) - and more than one person stopped to ask me if I was ok every time!! NYC may be a tough place if you're healthy and obviously making you way around fully able-bodied. But if you look like you need medical help, people jump in to help crazy fast!

@phillyslasher Don't misread what I said. I didn't say "biased" = "true", I said "biased" ≠ "UNtrue". There's a difference. What it means is that a biased statement can either be true or false, and that being biased doesn't automatically mean it's false. Example, if a black person said black people are overall better at sports than white people, that black person would be biased, but also speaking truth. I know. And this first one of the series shows Riggs at his craziest, he regains SOME mental stability in the sequels (notice I emphasized SOME). It's noteworthy how 2 seconds after his raging to Murtaugh about how he often wants to kill himself, he says "I'm hungry, let's get something to eat", you'd expect someone right after a suicidal freakout that eating is the last thing he'd be thinking about. Almost casually mentioning eating can only show how habitually suicidal he is, how it's almost become a daily ritual of his

Hitting a human sized target at 1000 yds with the right rifle and cartridge is perfectly possible, I do it myself. Videos on KZfaq of "Mark and Sam after work" hitting a 2ft square steel target at over 2,000 yards (let alone 1,000) with a .300 WinMag, which is a high powered but commonly used sniper round. The real sinnable firearms scene in this movie is how badly he flinches with his pistol at the range. Any competent shooter or operator wouldn't do that so badly with just a 9mm.

He is sinning the man, not the artist. Mel Gibson is a great actor and film-maker but he went on a drunken, bigoted rant saying how he hates Jews. It's a similar problem with Kevin Spacey. Incredibly gifted actor but there are multiple reports of sexual assault and misconduct perpetrated by him. There is an interesting vid by Lindsay Ellis that talks about the concept of Death of the Author - Where the artwork stands on it's own merits without influence of it's creator and his/her misdeeds. Like can you enjoy the song "I Believe I Can Fly" without feeling like you are condoning R. Kelly's predation against underage girls? Can you commend the brillance of Thomas Jefferson writing The Declaration of Independence while knowing he fathered children on his slaves and let them grow up as slaves? Freaking brutal.
