Yeah, keep it as standard as possible cosmetically. Obviously add little personal touches here and there, but don’t ruin it by making it look tacky. Wheels back silver in my opinion and I’d even replace the badges/fog surroundings back to standard colour. All the best mate👌🏼

Completely agree with this and was just about to say the same. Standard badges as those red ones look terrible. Silver wheels and tidy up bodywork will look so much better. Once finished with the car sitting lower like it is now the car will look really really nice.

Love the new content, had my ST Derv for almost 3 years, the basic boltons really help this car, i have straight piped mine, intercooler, intake EGR delete because they are a common issue that will put it into limp mode. All that just helps it breath and you get a massive torque band from about 1750-3500 which makes it a joy to drive

The best part about all your videos is how clear yet very simple all the explanations are, it's almost at ABC level but for beginners is perfect and for intermediates it's a refresh. Ok all manufactures have designed things differently but as long as we get the concept it can then be applied to All cars. Keep up the good work and keep it simple. Respect dude. 👍

Big love for putting it back to as standard as possible lad. I'm currently in the almost exact same process. Had a few Mondogs now but always want the diesel st. Will be watching with keen interest to see the progress. Don't know if it's already been mentioned but I can highly recommend a decat pipe. Mine runs so much smoother now and makes better use of the claimed 195bhp remap by a previous owner.

Loving the ST! de-tint the back lights and add the chrome window strips back again definitely. Maybe paint the wheels anthracite? These TDCi engines are okay if looked after. The only issues are injectors and clutch / DMF with these. Good luck with the project!

Haha cant actually believe you bought an ST, i've always wanted one and having discovered your channel through your Injector video on your dads mondeo and that being a common fault with these delphi injectors i decided to buy one, and now you have too! What a time to be alive!

Get rid of the red trim on the fog lights mate and put the original ford badges on. Silver wheels get my vote. Tensioner looks ok normally the belt shakes like mad when they go bad and the bottom pulley has a bush to dampen the virbration. If you have to replace apparently jaguar x type is the same part and is cheaper as they admitted that it's a common fault and ford didn't do reduced the price of the part. You can fit a relay so the mirrors fold in the double lock, I did, just Google it, easy job. Check foot wells for water it's common for the door membranes to be bad and not seal meaning all the rain water goes into the car rather than out. As with your dad's clean egr and intake regularly, injectors can be an issue but overall I think the puma engine is good and reliable.

I have one of these myself and only said the other day there isn't enough videos out there about these cars, I've replaced loads on mine in the last three years, best advice I can give is get a Haynes manual 😂 the belt tensioner can be a nightmare too if you haven't got the right kit for it because you only have like half a inch of space to work with! Best of luck with the car though mate, very happy to see an ST on someone's feed. 👍

EGR blank as the 2.2 and 2.0 are horrible for EGR and inlets blocking (you're probably aware with working on your dads lol!) Replace the aux belt as a kit and the crank pulley too as they're prone to fail on these as the damper just separates. Then just run some liquimoly diesel purge through it to clean the injectors and work on the cosmetic things. Whatever you do with the car I'll be watching no question, love your content and it's only gonna get better from here James!

Love these car's owned many & own 1, Inter-cooler upgrade is a nice touch already with an EGR Blank, Straight piped Exhaust to hear that Turbo Whistle is a power improvement, Auxiliary Belt & Tensioner's are prone to squeaking/Rattling on these Mk.3's Injectors normally take a dump around 80-120 Miles unless replaced engine can sound lumpy and pour out black smoke on HARD acceleration. Can't wait to see what you do to it:)

Silver wheels look a lot better or if you want it back to factory get them diamond cut. But have you look at 19inch focus rs alloys with 20mm hubcentric spacers fitted. There is a fair few FB groups for Mondeo ST’s. Have you thought about a uprated intercooler? Reference the air filter I would do as you suggested in the video and get a panel filter. If your thinking of changing the whole interior look at the full leather recaros from the ST220 they come in different colours but were a optional extra on the TDCI.

Loving this series- just bought one of these myself (also in ink blue but the estate) so very eager to see how your mods turn out! It’s my third mondeo (had a mk2 2.5 V6 and an ST220 before it) but also first diesel- I hear they do map well... IMO the ST alloys look best standard silver, particularly against the ink blue. Not a fan of the red accents personally but brake callipers could look ok... also definitely black out the back- I loved that in my ST220 (need to get it done in the ST as well!)

Liking the Mondeo, got one myself. Not an ST unfortunately 😥. Brilliant cars, mine is a 56 plate 2.0 TDCi 130. I absolutely love it, so easy to work on. I haven't done much to it, I'm not allowed to as my wife also uses the car. I have however changed all interior lights and puddle lights as well as the reg plate lights to LEDs. A cheap but very effective mod. I do have a tailgate lip spoiler which I will be fitting in the warmer weather as it needs a coat of paint first. Look forward to the next installment. From one Norfolk boy to another, good luck and enjoy the Mondy.

getting these 2.0l tdci engines remapped makes a lot of sense. with the default standard mapping they are quite peaky engines but after a remap they have a nice flat torque curve so makes it a lot more driveable. ive had two friends remap their mondeo's (one for economy and one for performance) and both said the car was a lot more driveable with a nice flat torque curve

I don't think a knackered shock would cause that noise. I'd say it's wheel bearing related or even the wheel slightly loose.

For what it is worth if it was the shocks the noise would be more intermittent , not as regular as you are suffering. Bearings or even a tyre fault, something that is going round!! Love your enthusiasm and your wanting to learn.

My ST220 is my project car and the ST TDCi is my daily. Remap are very common for the dervs as are hybrid turbo, egr delete, front mount intercooler, silicone piping and decat, my diesel is completely standard as I rely on it too much to go messing with it but I imagine it would be good with all the bits on it. All my money gets thrown at the 220 so I just do what wants doing on the diesel. In terms of cosmetic upgrades, TRC composite splitters look nice, RS 19" wheels with 20mm spacers, halo lights and recaro seats as it doesn't have them. Also, did I spot some rust on the rear arch? Common place to start rusting, if get it sorted before it gets too bad.

Hi James, plenty to keep you going. So I do have a few parts, tips and mod ideas for you. I currently own an St 155 so I'm not plucking this info from thin air. Firstly I have a set of seats identical to yours with the drivers seat being in good condition, I have a turbo actuator and other bits and bobs. When you're replacing the shocks you may aswel replace the bearings too (bolt on part) as I think this is the noise on the rear, sometimes they don't even have play. When replacing the shocks it's best to undo the whole hub from the control bars then simply remove the 2x10mm bolts holding it up at the top of the turret. A nice cheap mod I've done along with others is the flip key you did with the fiesta. Another cheap mod is power folding mirrors activated by the key, really cheap and easy to do. Personally I like the black headlights just not the halos, I retro fitted factory projector lights but it was a little pain. I do have some how-to info should you need it. Oh I also have a spare afolding mirror too!

Tension pulley on drive belt is common issue I think ford had a recall years back. If/when changing fuel filter use ford Oem as some cheap ones cause issues . fair enough wanting to add the k&n air filter to it if I was you I'd do the auxiliary belt and tensioner and then just put a new diesel filter on it and change oil and it'll be perfect they were rattly from factory so don't worry too much but they respond really well from a fresh diesel filter and love a good run at high revs to keep it clean inside the engine and bits

With the aux belt on these tdci's the crank pulley is often faulty. It runs out of balance causing the tensioner to jump around trying to keep tension on the belt. Usually you replace the pulley and tensioner together. A common thing with these is clogged EGR valves and inlet manifolds. Often you can scrape out tons of gunk from them.

Fyi if you go for an aftermarket panel filter make sure you dab it down with some kitchen roll first to remove some excess oil they put on. Made the mistake not to with mine and it blew a hell of a lot of white smoke on start-up for a while and stunk. Also wheels look into hydro dipping, might be something new and interesting for you?

I've owned a mondeo st for about 5 years now and would be hard pushed to get rid of it. I've done most of the common mods myself. Most of the common mods that have already been done to your car: Focus st225 calipers - straight through exhaust - lowered - wind deflectors - window tint - rear wiper delete - black eyed headlights with halo. Things you should look to do once you've fixed the other mechanical problems - 20mm spacers all round - EGR delete - bigger front mounted intercooler - cone air filter (sounds much better but does cost a little more), then get it dyno'd on a rolling road. if you want 200+ bhp then a hybrid turbo and bigger injectors. The 188 bhp could be true'ish, but all that will have been done is a standard remap where the fuel intake is simply increased. I have resubscribed to your channel due to you now having the st, I'm looking forward to watching your channel again. Try joining some mondeo st groups on Facebook, there are always people breaking cars and selling most parts at a very reasonable price. You can also get a lot of help and advice on what's what with regards to fixing the st as most of us have been there and done it. Keep up the good videos 👍🏻

Hey James, when you change them rear struts, be careful of the pinch bolt 🔩...the one that holds the strut to the hub, they are prone to snapping..

Love this project car, gonna be a great series to follow 😊👍🏼, red gloss wheels maybe? & repaint everything that is red, to the same red gloss standard. Silver is cool too tho, but i like the red on this car alot 👍🏼

We had the vibrations in the back of our e46. Turned out to be a bad wheel bearing. might want to go check that out...

Also one thing to look out for is water leaving behind the scuttle through the pollen filter , I have just had to remove the seats and carpet as it was soaking , what I plan on doing is silicone seal the plastic scuttle to the window to stop this

Sounds good so far, agree about keeping it fairly standard, IMO when it's done it should look like it could've come from the factory at 1st glance. Definitely think you should lose the red but not a deal breaker, wheels titanium colour maybe? Like the idea of the android head unit. What about the steering wheel? probably nice enough being an ST but is there anything from the Focus/Fiesta range that would look nice? I like what you've done on your previous cars, start with a basic and add higher end genuine Ford parts, it's what I done back in the day (mk1 & 2 Escorts, mk3 Capris) Built not bought, anyone can throw a lot of cash at a high end model (and be in debt for the next 3 years) Your approach is what made me subscribe, the only car related channel in my list. Keep up the good work.

I had that same noise on my focus and it turned out to be the wheel cap shaking about against the wheel. And the wing mirror is the plastic teeth have broken and it’s a sealed unit so you will have to just buy a new folding wing mirror.
