There's a new Pirates movie, whether you wanted it or not. So we went back to the last one looking for sins. Here's what we found wrong with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Thursday: Something horror something.
May is Mental Health Month, and it's a subject that means a lot to us here at CinemaSins.
In fact, we’re partnering with Mental Health America (MHA) to not only to raise awareness of mental health issues - but also to raise a little money, too. We’ve got a brand-new Cinema Sins t-shirt in the shop, and all of the profits from the sale of the shirt will be donated to our friends at MHA.
Click here to check out or purchase the shirt: www.districtlines.com/109796-C...
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

"Why is the name of this movie "On Stranger Tides" and NOT "The Fountain of Youth"?" It's funny because French title is exactly "The Fountain of Youth"
@keithchristmas7315

It's because it was based on the completely unrelated to Pirates of the Carribean novel On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers. Published in 1987 and also a big influence on the Monkey Island games. They bought the rights, replaced the original main character with Jack Sparrow, then.. This.

I still remember when I went to see this movie and it was dubbed in Spanish. When they name the mermaid, Syrena, my whole showing was laughing. The reason is that mermaid is "sirena" in Spanish, so the line sounded like "the mermaid's name is mermaid". Funny thing, that only works because of the dubbing.

Introducing blackbeard in the third film would have been a bad idea... On paper. If this is set in the early 1700's it could have been set up that black beard was in his prime off the coast of north carolina and he wasn't ready to give that up to save all of his buddies. But considering what the shit that they did do with him... Black beard in our world had a buddy who was NOTORIOUSLY BAD at being a pirate. If anything it could have been set up that Jack was working under the dude who took over blackbeard's buddy's ship.

Just FYI about the 'secrets of the fountain,' you missed one key detail: The ring that Jack stole from Calypso. He recognized it, which is why he stole it. He gives it to Angelica, and she says she traded it to learn the secrets of the fountain. So if you want to know who made that mess up about mermaids, the answer is Tia Dalma, a.k.a. Calypso. This franchise requires great attention to detail and reading into things that are not made obvious.

As he moves up the palm trunk, it gets thinner. This makes the ropes looser, and allows him to slip through them.
@tobiashagstrom4168
@tobiashagstrom4168 7 жыл бұрын
Sure, but if you look at the profile of the trunk's base, it does not appear to have any immediate taper to it. In fact, if anything, the point at which Jack was tied seems ever so slightly narrower than the point right above it. And since a clothed human has less friction and more give than a palm trunk, it should actually have been easier to crawl out of the ropes right away than to move up the trunk. And that's not considering the fact that climbing up a tree using that technique backwards, with no apparent ability to really manipulate the rope in relation to your body would be extremely difficult/impossible, and definitely would not work unless you had a bit of slack to start with.
@Vincent_Beers
@Vincent_Beers 7 жыл бұрын
In addition to Tobias's comments, there's also the fact that even if the trunk narrowed a bit,that wouldn't explain how he navigated past the top end of the tree with all of it's extending palm branches which would stop him from getting off the top. And then there's the fact that even if somehow you managed that; you would pop off the top facing the wrong way with nothing to grab on to; you'd just fall face first off the tree once you came off the top. There's nothing about that escape that is logical, which is why they avoided showing it, the answer is movie magic and magic like that is just a writers crutch that we're expected to accept as a half assed joke

I have a question. Barbossa stabs Blackbeard with a poisonous sword, making him dying. Why does then Angelica get years of immortality instead of just a couple more minutes added to her life? I mean, he was gonna die anyway.Doesn`t that mean his life is shortened?

I think the fountain takes the amount of years you have lived and will live (predetermined apparently) and gives it to the other person, so whether Blackbeard was dying or not, his daughter took all his years.

Good ol' Blackbeard survived a beheading and is skilled in necromancy (or at least, he can zombify people). Clever Barbossa had a plan with his poisons, but a plan of success does not always mean success. I wouldn't be surprised if that poisoned slash-and-stab was enough to incapacitate Blackbeard from the fight, but not kill him.

In the movie Angelica explains this to Jack but a lot of people seem to overlook it. 3:10 to be fair here, the guard doesn't have a gun. He has a musket. Even a skilled marksmen does need at least 30 seconds to load this thing. And you can't run around with the barrel loaded because keeping a musket loaded for a long period of time before shooting increases the misfire chance dramatically. You load a musket only when you are about to shoot it.

Another sin: You forgot that the flag on the British ship has the cross representing Ireland when apparently this is during the reign of King George II, well before 1801. Also another sin: King George II here is portrayed as fat and demanding, but he wasn't (only towards the very end of his life he was). During this time he was leading his army into battle against the Jacobites. How have the mighty fallen.

But that's movie making in general. The cast's language is geared towards the general audience the movie is for. If the target audience is people who speak english, then the movie will be in english. Just like no doubtedly the dubbed or subtitled versions will stay consistent to that language. Also hollywood produced movies sometimes add in the appropriate language depending on how long its going to go on for. Most people are ok with a little bit of subtitles but don't want to spend an entire movie reading subtitles.

God Almighty, the Creator was manifest in the flesh. He came into the world to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save yours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for your redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. This is the Gospel which means the Good News. Those that reject redemption will go to hell. 1 John 1:8-10 KJV If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. John 1:1-3,10 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. Isaiah 44:6 KJV Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Revelation 1:17-18 KJV And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: [18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. Acts 4:12 KJV Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. John 5:24 KJV Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

When syrena finds Phillip after giving jack the chalices and he asks for forgiveness, apparently when she kissed him and pulled him under water her kiss healed his wounds and gave him the ability to breathe under water so they can be together like in the old mermaid stories the characters are based off where a mermaid falls in love with a boy from the church and she gives him the ability to be with her forever

Fun fact: To promote this movie the week before it came out, the director, Rob Marshall, made it a point to emphasize that all of the actresses cast as mermaids were *required* to have natural breasts (i.e. no implants, period, full-stop, never mind the fact that most women who get implants don't actually have much choice in the matter)... which were never shown AT ALL (due to creative cinematography or obscuring with hair, seaweed, arms, etc.)... which means either Marshall was simply bragging about his own personal preference as a breast-man, or he was bogarting all the shots of the actresses' breasts, because he clearly didn't bring enough for the rest of the class.

For sin 120, I think it's Philip's moral conscience, not just being attracted to Syrena.

Another sin for an obvious name: Syrena = Sirene = Mermaid. The writers must have thought this was very clever, but it's lazy.

Same. it is hot 10 months of the year and freezes over like 1 month and the other month is nice weather. Too many old people that come here to die that drive like shit and congest our roads.

Off the top of my head, these are the sins I can come up with. 1. All mutants are either dead or on the run. All of them. Even Magneto, the second-strongest mutant on the planet. 2. Humanity has apparently "cured" the world of the mutant gene. 3. Xavier manages to make it to Mexico despite being considered a "Weapon of Mass Destruction", which I can only assume would put you slightly higher on 'America's most wanted' than the most dangerous criminals to walk the planet. 4. The Timeline. It's been rewritten twice now. We couldn't get a concise answer on what the fuck has happened to cause this calamity if we were shown it year by year. 5.We can engineer the perfect Wolverine to fight for the enemy, but they could only reproduce the effects of him and just him? Not one other mutate was as successful as Wolverine?

Nathaniel Hagan Wolverine dies in the middle of a pine tree forest, stabbed against a fallen trunk that is immediately cut off by Laura, which means he indirectly taught her to be a lumberjack. Is that the most Canadian way to die ever or what? XD
