With Alien: Covenant hitting U.S. theaters soon, we thought we'd go back to the franchise and look for sins in the infamous sequel, Aliens. Guess what? We found some!!
May is Mental Health Month, and it's a subject that means a lot to us here at CinemaSins.
In fact, we’re partnering with Mental Health America (MHA) to not only to raise awareness of mental health issues - but also to raise a little money, too. We’ve got a brand-new Cinema Sins t-shirt in the shop, and all of the profits from the sale of the shirt will be donated to our friends at MHA.
Click here to check out or purchase the shirt: www.districtlines.com/109796-C...
Next Week: An ocean-based sequel and a recent horror film.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

I love the "Bitch!" quote as much as anyone... But I am constantly dismayed at how underappreciated the "gearing up" sequence is... Here's Ripley, confronting her greatest living Hell of being trapped with hundreds of the same monsters who killed all her crew members and damn near killed her. She's seen dozens more be killed by same monsters since arriving on the planet. Genuinely scared for her life, trying to evacuate to safety, she suddenly loses her newly found surrogate daughter to the horde of monsters... and what does she do? She duct-tapes a goddamn flamethrower and an assault rifle together and _marches straight down there to get her back!_ That is _way_ more badass to me than even the final confrontation...

To be honest you don't need to be a gun expert to shoot someone. I mean, go through ten minutes of gun training and you'll immediately know how to use one. Doesn't mean you will be accurate, but you still will know how to use it.

*Looks at Forgotten Camel with narrowed eyes* Being accurate, knowing how to load and shoot under pressure, very, very underrated in movies lol. Then again, most idiots thinks its realistic when the main character can blast away soldiers whether they have weapon/military training or not.

I'm assuming you've never used a gun before... I mean seriously. When I shot a shotgun for the first time It wasn't even that hard to reload or even aim with the darn thing. some guy threw like 5 skeets and i hit 3, for the first time! Ever since I've been hooked on guns and the only trouble you'll have with it is cleaning it well enough so that the gun does not malfunction. What about a regular gun with a mag? Again, not that hard to reload with a magazine. It's not rocket science like you claim it to be. You do not need military training to use one. One more thing, she is not fighting soldiers. If she were, things should have gone way differently.

I watched Aliens last night and finally figured out how the aliens got inside the complex through the floor and ceiling. There was a scene earlier when the sentry guns were firing at a massive onslaught of xenomorphs. Well since they bleed acid they basically all got riddled with bullets. The spatter and gushing of acid caused massive holes in the metal structure all around them. So those bled out, sacrificing themselves so the others could get inside. This was never addressed in the movie but thinking with xenomorph hive mindset, that’s definitely how I would approach the situation.
@possemis
@possemis 2 жыл бұрын
yeah the aliens are actually super intelligent, the highest they tested in one of the novels or comics was an IQ of 175, the average human IQ is 100. the alien queens are also sapient and can make plans/think ahead etc. this intelligence explains also some of the behaviour of the aliens, like when newt fell down and only one alien went for her, why? because she was no danger to the hive and just one is enough to deal with her, or why the queen went up into space with the survivors, because that queen knew very well that shit was about to explode on the planet and that ship was her only escape.
@SniffHeinkel
@SniffHeinkel 2 жыл бұрын
@@possemis The thing about the Queen hiding on the dropship to escape the blast has always bothered me. Where exactly was she hiding? When you see the dropship in space going back to the Sulaco you can clearly see the landing skids are drawn back into the ship and she's not clinging to anything. So like... where was she hiding? Alien Queens are massive so it would have had to be a place on the ship big enough to conceal her presence, right?
@talon532
@talon532 2 жыл бұрын
@@SniffHeinkel Yeah I never understood that part either. I even paused at the scene where the landing gear was lifting upwards and I saw no sign of the queen...well anywhere. It's like she disappeared from that scene very briefly.

It wasn't the last time James Cameron did something like that. In Titanic, all the scenes set in 1912 total up to 2 hours and 40 minutes, which was the exact time it took for the actual Titanic to sink after it hit the iceberg. Cameron is probably the most OCD filmmaker of all time.

Yeah, they don't make movies like this anymore. Consider it in context of one of the more popular tv series at the moment, the Last of Us. In the scene where they meet Newt, Ripley would be shoving her tongue down the child's throat within ten minutes. Hudson and Drake would be naked in the escape pods, schlobbing each other. They'd have bashed president Trump at least 800 times, since he'd been dead by, oh, about 700 years by then. The one remaining Christian in the UNIVERSE who would be wearing a crucifix would be ENDLESSLY ridiculed as being closed minded, stupid and hateful. There would be a twenty minute debate between the lesbean crewmembers and the tranny lieutenant about using ANY GUNS, with the consensus being they should call in social workers to establish communications with the aliens. AnD NOT ONE OF 'em WOULD BE WHITE. It's just not worth watching ANYTHING on the screen anymore,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,including Cinema Sins - gosh you guys SUCK at this now.

Them firing weapons in the first encounter with the Aliens is why the whole facility explodes in the end. Burke didn't say if they fire their weapons this place will immediately explode the instant a bullet hits. It is a nuclear reactor, it takes a few hours to melt down. There is even a scene where Bishop points out the emergency venting and says that they have 4 hours from that point to get off the planet. And yes, Burke found some unconscious face huggers, the live ones in the jars. They even show the empty jars they were in. Jeremy really slipping on this one.

My parents actually explained the reason why Ripley started setting fire to the eggs around 12:50. There was an unspoken deal between Ripley and the Xenomorph Queen. Ripley showed the queen that her flamethrower worked, and if she wasn't allowed to take Newt and leave safely, she would torch the eggs. The queen, understanding this, allowed Ripley to take Newt, but, being the evil xenomorph that she is, the queen tried to sneakily hatch one of the eggs prematuraley to get Ripley and Newt. In responce, Ripley spoke in the launguage of flamethrowers "that wasn't the deal" and torched the open egg and closed eggs.

That's how I saw it too. If you don't kill my baby, then I won't kill your babies. THAT was why Ripley gave the queen that nasty "how dare you" look hen the egg hatched. The Alien queen had broken the deal.

You went on about 'how did Burke manage to get the facehuggers in the medical lab to attack Ripley and Newt' but it's obvious!! They discovered there were two live ones in the medical lab when they first arrived and, while Ripley and Newt were asleep, Burke simply released them from their tanks, took Ripley's gun, ran out the room and locked them in. The fact that Ripley saw the empty tank on the floor when she woke up is what made her realise the facehuggers were loose. I don't know how you missed that.
@barrygeistwhite3474
@barrygeistwhite3474 7 жыл бұрын
But the question is how Burke got both facehuggers into the room and out of the tanks without getting a face full of alien wingwong. As soon as you open one you're gonna have a bad day. Now, it's possible that he set one tank in the room still partially sealed and then chucked the second one at it with the seal broken. However, the fact that he pulled that bullshit off without once again getting a face full of alien wingwong AND successfully releasing both facehuggers is still worthy of a sin.
@jessikapiche6097
@jessikapiche6097 7 жыл бұрын
I will say that even if those facehugger were alive, they were weak. They were maintain partially colder environment than an original egg. So, they could be studied...until one of them got the scientist or doctor and an infestation started...or whatever. The idea is that the facehuggers were put in the room in their canister, unlock or unsealed and left them until they were strong enough to escape and start hunting... (my guess...)

Fun Fact: During the siege on the colony station there was an additional scene that was cut that showed the marines preparing defenses, including deploying 4 motion-sensor turrets. They then watched the ammo counters tick down. It added a lot more tension to the scene and the movie would have been much better with it.

10:20 The movie explains that Burke used the two facehuggers in the freezing containers Bishop told Ripley about earlier at 9:50 in your video. Burke unscrewed the lids just enough for the facehuggers to escape, slid them into the room and locked the door. The facehuggers were already frozen in stasis by Bishop and took a while to wake up. It shows a shot of the specimen freezing containers knocked over near the door. So that's obviously not a sin, given the movie actually explains it if you're paying attention. Also, the reason why they didn't leave a crewman behind was because they were able to remote dial the Sulaco from the APC, but didn't account for the APC getting destroyed, Their secondary option using the colony transmitter from the command center, which they didnt expect the direct line from being damaged by the explosions/alien gunfights from the civilians. The real problems with Aliens were the two deleted scenes. I one Ripley is told that her daughter had died a few years before Ripley was found and that is what motivated her to demand that Newt was still alive: she could save the daughter of her own that she had last seen at Newt's age. The other problem was removing the scene with the automated firing station that was used to delay the Aliens before the final attack. Both scenes were restored and included I the Director's Release (I believe).

You'd honestly be shocked at how many times in the military we actually hit things to make them work. That isn't a sin, it's just reality. There's literally a field phone that we used for decades in artillery that actually has a procedure for troubleshooting in the manual called the "drop test". You hold the thing at waist level and literally just drop it onto a hard surface. It fixes it 99 percent of the time.

This video makes me want to watch Aliens again, what a movie! 12:48 It's left open to interpretation why Ripley attacks the nest. I think it's either an effort to distract the Aliens and facilitate her escape, or the movie trying to draw parallels between Ripley and the Alien queen, with Ripley wanting revenge after the Aliens endangered Newt. Or maybe it was simply a cool-looking and cathartic way to get the Alien queen up for the big showdown!

I’m so glad to see all the comments saying Aliens is the best movie ever - because it really is. First time I watched it (on VHS as I wasn’t old enough when it was on at the cinema) I had to get on my feet and run on the spot while watching that 15 minute countdown as Ripley goes to rescue Newt. I remember renting it from the video store repeatedly when I was in my teens. The action, the plot and.....that dialogue. It’s fantastic.

13:54 I disagree. The Queen most likely knew that Bishop was piloting the dropship. Although he was never seen as a threat before and the Xenomorph's were not interested in him because they couldn't impregnate him, after the Queen realises he was a threat, she does the next best thing; she destroys him to remove the possibility of him causing problems whilst she tries to capture and impregnate Ripley and Newt.
