This movie is so much better than what Paramount did to that now-cheap blue hedgehog, and yes I know there are leaks where he's got a new good redesign but it doesn't excuse how retarded sega was to have them make sonic's design without checking how they were gonna make him.

That joke actually horrified me, the Mr. Mime believed that he was burning alive! Tim knows that the Mr. Mime believes in this too, so pouring gasoline on him is so out-of-this-world dark for the character to do. Just imagine the scene if it was a human with real gasoline, that's what Mr. Mime was experiencing.

@@conormurphy4328 Both Lickitung and Seel where first gen, so that was back when they only had to name 151. Pikachu's name is also uncreative if you translate it, since it was one of the pokemon to keep it's original japanese name 'Pikapika' refers to the sound of sparking electricity and 'chu' a mouse's squeak. a literal translation would be like Sparkysqeak

True, but Pikachu comes around because Ash proves himself by saving his life. That's a bit different than stockholm syndrome or just forced to be together because. Ash also respected Pikachu not wanting to go into the ball. Pikachu still had agency.

8:22 Actually, if a Magikarp becomes enraged enough, it evolves into Gyarados. The movie scene is actually directly referencing a moment in the anime.

yeah, just like marvel, pokemon has a lot of continuties, there's the main games, the spinoff games, the anime (which in turn have multiple continuities), the manga, even the f*cking trading card game has a continuity, so yeah, all bets are now off in pokemon.

That was by far one of the funniest scenes in anime when *edited* James and Jesse kicked The Magikarp into the water and it spawned back as Gyarados and blasted them. Looks like team rocket is blasting off again. Beeeep. Lol

Yeah there's a whole Pokémon movie where all the Pokémon are cloned and Mew's clone is called MewTwo. It contains a strange scene where each Pokémon is fighting its clone but they're so evenly matched that it goes on and on until both of them are about to fall down with exhaustion. My six year old daughter watches that movie repeatedly and now I know more about Pokémon than I ever wanted to know :(

The reason they didn't show Ryan Reynolds face until the end is because people know Pikachu is voiced by him, and it'd be REALLY easy to figure out the ending if they saw the face. I had a suspicion Pikachu was his dad the whole time just because of that detail

Knowing factual knowledge like gyarados’ powers and not remembering how to use pikachu’s own powers actually makes sense because procedural memory (motor skills like your own powers) and semantic memory (factual knowledge like the stats of other Pokémon) are different cognitive processes.

Ryan Reynalds mispronounced Arceus in the “Oh my Arceus” line. It’s official English pronunciation is with a hard C not a soft one. Which makes sense as its a combo of arch and deus. But that’s a hard and controversial one and seeing as that’s the only slip up I caught, yeah, good on them.

Time to sin the sinner who sins the sinners 1- You can have a Pokémon that doesn't like you, its just harder to catch and use 2- Amnesia is an actual Pokémon move, though yeah, kinda a plot device 3- You can't sin the movie just because you're unfamiliar with moves and levels 4- (This is a long one) R gas is extracted from Mewtwo, an experiment to clone the strongest Pokémon, Mew. The experiment constantly failed, each time creating Ditto, a Pokémon which can only transform, Mew's signature move. After the experiments continued to fail the scientists working on the cloning introduced human DNA, which created Mewtwo, however because of the human DNA Mewtwo gained sentience and went crazy. This is why introducing R gas to a Pokémon makes it rage, and using it on Ditto specifically made it revert when part of its original DNA was forced upon it

@George Corbul well ash could've turned into a not so good person if the anime is canon ash is 21 years old and detective pikachu is based on a game of the same name and the r gas was extracted from mewtwo in that game so we can make a logical conclusion that since the movie's r gas works the same way it was also extracted from mewtwo

I appreciate all the work that goes into the series, and enjoy watching and commenting. I don't see how that's a problem, and I absolutely don't understand how it involves you. @@slevinchannel7589 to be fair: most people aren't putting serious time into training their pokemon: they're 'training' it is more like walking the dog compared to someone doing dog shows (like your character in the games) though it is weird when an old dude has a partner pokemon for like 50 years that you can beat after getting your pokemon like literally yesterday that's probably why most of the random trainers are usually using mons that are in the area, or nearby ish, around the same level (besides VG plot - though i guess level's one of those things that doesn't matter as much outside otherwise ash would have a level 100 fucking pikachu and should be taking out everything in his path by now, but loses almost constantly because as a show with lower risk they actually CAN - instead of the 99% of other shows where losing's not an option)

This one was actually born in another lab, and was captured by Tim's father and his Pikachu, just for corrupted crippled man. Until Tim's father found out he was a corrupted crippled man, and undid his mistake by letting Mewtwo free again.

I've watched too many CinemaSins, I think, because in real time I think I mentioned about half of these things. No even flinched when Justice Smith jumps from one cliff and lands on that ledge that looks like it's about 100 feet down and I said, "he survives this". Like... it's both fun and not fun to watch a movie after a CinemaSins binge.

@@airplane6417 continuation for number 2: you said it yourself it realeses on nintendo PLATAFORMS this isn't a game released on a console, it's a movie released in theaters, nintendo actually has no saying, no creative input nor receives any royalties to any pokemon properties that isn't games, so there's really no obligation to put the companie's name in any of the studio logos. Trust me if nintendo receive any royalties from pokemon products they would've been the highest grossing gaming company in the world.

Especially when said Ditto henchman was wrecking the entire room, in an attempt to kill said hero. It's like what if it turned into one of the Pokemon that mostly rams stuff, and the hero leads them into nailing the desk and the wheel chair that said villain's unconscious body is on? Sending the dude's body hurtling out the window of the hundred something story tall building. Just there went all their plans, straight out the window, quite literally.

Care to explain that? Because we also share DNA with bananas. Macro and micro evolution works by losing genetic material (ie once a genetic trait has been bred out, it's gone from that breed's DNA). In other words, life that started as a tiny amoeba contained all the possible genetic combinations for all life going forward. And besides, even if evolution were grounded in science and not a religion of it's own requiring blind faith, care to explain how that first amoeba came to life? Or what life even is? Can you or I without taking pre-existing life create a life to prove that life can come from nothing? Hitchken's Razor works both ways. Hume's too. 15:09 Actually, yes. Mewtwo was created in a lab by a bunch of power hungry humans. After he straight up murdered them and escaped he lived in isolation with other Pokémon. Until of course he was captured again by these guys in the movie. So yes, until Goodman, Mewtwo had never seen a human perform a selfless act

Also a big plot hole is that the Pikachu wasn't even enraged when Mewtwo fuses him and Tim's father, wasn't that the point for the gas all along, isn't that state of mind that you need to reach so that Mewtwo can be able to do that fusion, the plot of the villain doesn't have sense when Mewtwo can fuse Pokemon and humans whenever he likes to. BTW another plot for Mewtwo, he's one the strongest Pokemon in the movie and he can levitate, and the furthers of he could go in the world was in the vicinity of the lab. I know is a nod to the games but come on! That's so dumb, that I was glad the villains captured his dumb ass again! :D

I noticed most of the things that were brought up in this video and commented out loud about them on occasion and stopped the video once cuz I wanted to make sure that I wasn't crazy/stupid by not understanding something. I tried to keep it together throughout the movie due to the fact that I was watching it with my kids who are Pokémon fans (ages 15, 18 & 20). However, when he got to the bottom of the building after Pikachu's fall, I lost it! The kids were so immersed that they didn't even realize what had happened and when they did they started laughing hysterically. :)

Maybe he has the vocal version of Prosopagnosia and simply cannot recognize a voices. People with face blindness can recognize their own mother's voice but if they actually see their mother while their mother is speaking will not believe it is their mother. So maybe he cognitively cannot recognize his father's voice unless he actually sees his father while hearing the voice. Or, maybe it is just a movie or something.

Detective Pikachu: Not perfect, but enjoyable for any age. As someone who didn't grow up with the games, I was pleasantly entertained.

There are times during movies where I'll immediately know that certain moments are getting sinned. As I saw the whole Torterra scene, especially that massive drop, I could feel _"they survive this"_ in my bones.

Trainer dude had his thumb over the end restricting how much was escaping until it was directly under his pokemon's nose. You can clearly see his thumb partially over the open end of the vial.

There's a lot of great and coherent (mostly) things in it. Saying nonsense and sinning things already EXPLAINED in the movie can't be justified with a "oh, but it's Cinemasins".

2:46 is a reference to the Squirtle Squad in the original anime. That sin was not earned. In fact, if you watched the show, you'd take a sin off because of the appreciation of fan service. I'm subtracting two sins, one to make up for the unearned sin and another for the one you should have removed.
