Awesome job Vosk, you and the team really did an awesome job on this! This is about as detailed as you can get on the topic while still being somewhat "generic". While there is some stuff you could have maybe cut to streamline this video and instead used in a more "ASIC specific guide", I think the footage still served a useful purpose in giving the novice viewer a general overview of what it's like to work with ASIC hardware.

Got a question for you since you've been doing this for a little bit. I have a relatively small mining operation, 6 asics. I've been kicking around the idea of selling them during this bullrun when the prices for ASIC go crazy and holding the money until prices come down and using it to upgrade to newer more efficient ASICs. Any thoughts on that strategy? Not sure if it's worth it to forgo mining for months while waiting, but at least i would have a guaranteed profit and hopefully a better setup for the future

Need to work on your electrical theory. 😬 240 is not necessarily “more efficient” than 120v. Yes it runs at half the amperage for the same wattage when running 240v. The advantage of using 240v is that the wiring can be smaller for the same amount of power, since wire size is directly related to amperage. This means you pay less for the copper. There may also be slightly less voltage drop when running 240v, which may also save a very small amount of power. Another thing, 30A is not the biggest plug you can put in a home. Oven/range combos, some dryers, welders, and some RV hookups are all 50A. It is a very common plug. 30A is actually seen less I think.
@CoolHippy
@CoolHippy 3 ай бұрын
You're forgetting the relationship of heat loss and current. Since heat loss is proportional to the square of the current. Therefore you actually have 4x the heat loss since it takes twice the current... as for voltage drop you would have 1/2 the voltage drop on 240 as you would on 120, with the same power output because voltage drop is based on resistance over a length of wire * current.... takes 4 wires for 120v to provide the same power at 30 Amps as it does for 2 wires to provide in 240.
@jleal4611
@jleal4611 3 ай бұрын
@@CoolHippy Yes and no… the amount of thermal loss is going to be negligible. Unless your wiring is undersized, the amount of energy lost between 120v and 240v is so low that it’s not really worth mentioning. It also doesn’t take 4 wires for 120v to do the same thing as 240v, that’s not how it works. 🤣 20A 240v is 4800w and would use two 12 gauge wires. 4800W on 120v would be 40 amps and just run two 8 gauge wires. Thats how normal people would do it. Technically if you wanted to keep it on 12 gauge wire at 120v, you don’t need 4 wires even then. L1 - L2 - N….. 3 wires, that’s all you need. I mean, technically you want ground in there too, so really there ARE 4 wires, but only 3 current carrying.

If you could recommend a startup package for someone starting out with regular 110 or 120 in a small house or apartment what would that look like? And what would the ROI most likely be for a startup package? I think this video is a great intro to starting out for already having the place the space and the upgraded electric capacity but what would a smaller startup setup be on a tight budget? Thanks! Cheers!

So you can use any asic miner with 120v outlet as long as the PSU surpass 80 percent of the wattage capacity of the miner. Forgive me if I’m way off base. Lol
@edwardmclean5373
@edwardmclean5373 7 ай бұрын
The PSU has to support 120v, they operate in a range. Most PC power supplies are 120v-240v capable. All the high wattage ASICs (1500w+) require 180v-240v power. The most wattage you want to draw on a 15A 120v standard home circuit is 1,400w. If you have a 20A circuit, you can go up to 1,900w. Anything higher draw than that must be on a higher voltage circuit, ideally 240v. A 30A 240v circuit can support up to 5,700w. The ”80% Rule" is that you should not draw more than 80% of the total wattage your circuit can support.

(average 2-3 months) 3- Receive your asic and start your climate change operation 4- Half way through breaking even, it's not profitable anymore 5- Go back to step 1

Speaking of painful and expensive. I spent over $2k on setting up to solo mine with a S9 SE. Maybe that borders more on stupidity. I'm using it in the house so had to make it whisper quiet and keep it cool at the same time which = $$$ to make it work. I also had no where to plug it in to a 220v receptacle, so I had to install my own sub panel.

Very, very great!! ... and ... what about Vokscoin could install a pool of miners and offer its subscribers to invest (e.g. USD 10,000) ?. It saves us the hassle of buying equipment (plus high power costs in our countries). Thus allowing us to participate in the BTC mining business. Something like Gominig, but on a smaller scale.
