I didn't pay attention to the updates and just jumped back into the game. I dropped the palm leaves, jumped whilst swinging an axe and let out a yelp. Most terrifying experience I've ever had involving palm leaves

All you need to know: kill it with a spear, then kill it with fire.

I started playing the game after like a year of not really being on it and literally screamed “holy shit!” when I saw that it was crawling on the palm leaves I was carrying

What I know about Centipede based on gameplay and Steam Community conversation: - Centipedes spawn when you grab something on the ground that doesn't go into your backpack, AKA items that your character holds: Long Sticks, Logs, Palm Leaf, Banana Leaf, Bamboo Long Stick, Bamboo Log, even Wilson can spawn a centipede. - The time the item is on the ground is irrelevant, you can cut down a tree and right away spawn a Centipede, but it seems the longer the item is on the ground, the higher the chances, but it won't ever reach 100% - Centipedes can be used as bait for fishing.

They seem to spawn on logs, long sticks, large rocks and bananas/palm leaves. It only seems to happen when those things lay on the ground for a while. The more of those things mentioned you pick up the more likely they will spawn. If one does spawn if you insert whatever it spawned on into something you are building within a few second the centipede just disappears. Never had one on a green coconut. They also seem to spawn more in the swampy areas but it’s possible it just seems like it to me. Never had one spawn when I pull those things mentioned off of a rack. I keep bandages for the bite and if you can drink some bone broth a quick nap will get you up and back at it pretty quick. The spawn rate needs to be adjusted for sure. It does add a slight element of danger and unpredictability as over time things start to get pretty routine. Nothing like a centipede bite at the end of a long day getting a lot of construction done and while really low on energy running into the river screaming, getting chewed up by piranhas, making it to shore, face planting into the mud, waking up with worms in your skin, realizing you drank all your water, pass out again on the way to your camp and laying there watching a cane toad hop on your face as you stare at your fire 30 feet away and accept your inevitable demise.

I guess these only show up on higher difficulties. I didn't see one centipede on 'Welcome to the Jungle' difficulty, but encountered one on day 3 in 'King of the Jungle'.
