@@DIYAudioGuy Another great video! I guess I'm just looking for more in-depth information and I can't lie I'm also checking to make sure people out there aren't feeding viewers bad information about audio. Let's face it the audio world is a science world with a lot of grey area in it and it's taken me well over two decades of work in the field to get a good grasp on when's and when nots. So when I find channels like yours it's nice to see people not being feed B.S. because of people who presume they KNOW for a fact because of their "anecdotal experience" which unfortunately came to them dew to their own ignorance and arrogance. @@jedpetersen3806 I appreciate that man! One of the reasons why I started making videos is because I saw some stuff out there that was just flat out wrong, and wrong in an obvious way. I only put stuff out there If I'm very certain that I've got it right. That does not mean that I'm always right. I've learned a lot from the many knowledgeable people that post comments. My big challenge at the moment is I'm looking for a reputable source that can give me some formulas for understanding how a dual reflex (some call it a sixth order) bandpass enclosure works. I suspect there's probably some very gnarly math. That does not scare me off. Since you've been doing this professionally for a couple of decades you might be able to put me in the right direction. @@DIYAudioGuy A long time ago I downloaded the BassBox software to make a subwoofer for the car, I was a kid... very happy with my birthday face... The software was paid, with an eye patch. The speaker had a double coil and everything I needed was in the parameter sheet, in the end I made a box of 80 liters hahahaha, later I learned that using both coils, the volume of the box is reduced by half. And that the TS data was for a coil and did not warn about the issue. Funny thing is, I built the box twice as big. The only way to simulate the response of the box was to put two subwoofers in an isobaric configuration, one of them outside the box, which did not really exist. I just needed the air volume and port dimensions. Whoever buys a box with a subwoofer (the complete kit of any brand) and only uses one coil is changing the response of the speaker, whose box was designed to use both coils, either in series or in parallel.

That's a dual two ohm subwoofer, not a dual 4ohm. You can just wire the voice coils in series so that each subwoofer has a 4 ohm load and run in stereo. If the amp is bridgeable you can run the subwoofers in series for an 8 ohm load the amp.

Alright, so, if you get 2 skar audio 8" subs, would it be plausible to build ONE box with one chamber ported, and one sealed to get the best of both worlds? I've researched this and I'm getting different responses. I believe all you'd have to do would be to " Fold" the port? I'm well capable of designing boxes. Technically the real difference in the term impedance and resistance is the impedance is both the resistance and the reactants together so the impedance covers all the aspects of the reactants and the resistance when you introduce a wave into a chamber you get what's called capacitive reactants and when you have a vent you get inductive reactants. A speaker is actually a reactive load.

Thank you so much for the video. Using the parallel technic, can I do the same with my wireless subwoofer (from soundbar)? My sub driver that came along with the soundbar( samsung q950a) is only 8 inch 4omhs. The wireless sub has no output and neither samsung sells same model subwoofer. All I wanna do is hook up wire directly from the sub driver using your parallel technics and then sends the audio signal to a small sub amplifier that can handle my new polk subwoofer 12 inch 200 watt. Will this change the overall impedance or impact inadvertently in the process? My intended simple steps below: 1. Hook up wire from wireless subdriver inside the sub cabinet(parallel) 2. send the audio connection (wire) to a sub amp. 3. then send the connection to new subwoofer. Eternally grateful if you'd reply.

If the sub has no output then the amp powering the sub is probably blown, if so then nothing you are proposing will work. Your best bet is to see if it is still under warranty and then send it back to Samsung.

I don't have enough information to give you a reliable answer. It all boils down to how the factory sub was wired. You may have to wire the aftermarket subwoofer in series. Unfortunately, no. If you wire all of that up in parallel your will have a 1 ohm load on the amp, which the amp can't handle. You are going to need a different amp. I recommend this one: lddy.no/133la It is only rated to do 700 watts, but it has been tested and proven to produce over 1,200 if you have a decent electrical system. I have one on hand and hope to test it in a real-world setting. I think it will easy to 1,000 watts all day.

Ok so i need some help understanding whats going on with my amp and subs i have a 8” dvc 2 ohm sub and a 12” dvc 1 ohm sub soo i parallel wired the 8” to the 12” and then back to the the wire terminal and my voltmeter is showing 1.1-1.3 so its giving me a 1 ohm reading but why is my amp going to protection mode when the music is asking for the most bass the volume has nothing to do with it at any volume its cutting out…why??

It's perfectly normal for the multimeter to read something different, remember that it picks up the resistance in the wire and the resistance in the test leads. If you have all those voice calls paralleled then you have the entire thing wired down to 75 ohms nominal impedance. Your amp is cutting out simply because you have it wired at far too low of a resistance. So when you hit those hard notes the amp tries to put out more current than it can and it will cut out or go into protect. I don't recommend mismatching drivers, I definitely don't recommend pairing drivers with different impedance or different size. It's not because I'm some kind of a speaker stop, it's because it doesn't work well. I recommend that you buy a second 12. Wire The voice coils in series to get a 2 ohm load on each subwoofer and then parallel the subwoofers together to get a one ohm load. You will get a much better result.

@@DIYAudioGuy ok that makes sense so im actually going lower than 1 ohm right and its rating is 1800x1 at 1ohm another driver at the moment is out of the question so if i wired those two drivers in series that would bring up from under 1ohm??
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy Жыл бұрын
@@davidleyva6567 Yes, but you are going to cook the smaller sub. So go ahead and plan on getting a second 12 so that it is ready when the 8 dies.

So, is it NOT possible to wire 2 4ohm DVC woofers to a 2ohm Class D Mono Block amp? The amp can take a 2ohm or 4ohm load, I just want the 2omh so I can get the 500 watts out of the amp. If I go 4ohm I'll only get 300 watts.

Thank you for your reply. I really wanted to get the 500 watts but I guess I'll settle for the 300 til I can afford an amp to match these subs. Thanks again!!

I'd love to see where you read that, please cite the information. Series or Parallel doesn't matter - its the total load of the system. The amp doesn't know what it is doing, it just wants a load.

Have you heard of anyone wiring a dual voice coil 4 ohm sub wired parallel with a single voice coil 8 ohm speaker? Thinking about hooking a car sub to a dj pro audio subwoofer. 8 ohm sub probably would be starved of wattage

In general I don't recommend mixing different subwoofers. But, if both are 8 ohm then both will get the same power.

@DIYAudioGuy Yeah I think the lower impedanced sub would hog all the wattage. Might be kind of a lopsided sound. Probably would bother me lol.
