I was a squad leader for a squad with a NSV (modernized cradle and optics).Trust me, you do not want to carry it with just 2 guys. It's a pain to move around. 1 guy for the gun, 1 for the cradle/tripod, 1 for extra barrels and at least 2 for ammunition. You can move the gun with less people but not for any effective use.

The flames venting out the cartridge ejection chute were particularly impressive. Weird language-nerd trivia. I don't speak the language, but it sounds like Serbian does not use the Russian word "пулемет" (lit: pulemet, pronounced "pulemyot"), but rather something very like the French word "mitrailleuse".

I speak both spanish, Portuguese and know a little bit of french and italian, it took me by surprise when he pretty much said a lot of recognizable words for me, and curiously looks a lot like Portuguese itself, when he said the word for machine gun, which indeed looks similar to the French one, but way more like spanish and Portuguese, in Portuguese is said "metralhadora" we actually use "metralha" both as a shorten name or as the action of gunning down with automatic fire, and is said exactly as he said right there, weight he said "massa" like mass, and is used in all those Latin languages, and yep, we sometimes can understand eachother just because those similarities, even talking in different languages between ourselves, but my surprise is that I didn't expect that from Serbia, I knew Bosnia was similar too, quite uncommon.

Everything we currently know as "The Balkans" was, at one point, a Roman province (Dacia, if memory serves). Now, while that was a long time ago, and quite a few folks have stomped across the region since, it's also just across the Adriatic from Italy. So I suppose I shouldn't really be surprised at the presence of quite a few loan words from (presumably) Italian. Linguistically that whole area north of Greece between the Bosporus and the Adriatic is fascinating. Romania, for example, fronts onto the Black Sea, and you'd think they'd be speaking a Slavic language, or perhaps something related to Hungarian, based on their neighbors. Nope...Romanian is a Romance language, closely related to Italian, albeit with a hefty addition of Slavic loan words.

Interesting to note the 12.7 can achieve higher velocities vs. .50 due to its increased cartridge length which can hold larger grain loads. Edit: Which is wrong 😜 12.7 and .50 are comparable only at standard military issues. highly specialized sabots .50 bmgs can reach 4000 f/s vs 3000 f/s of standard issue 12.7
@JoshuaCalvert80
@JoshuaCalvert80 Жыл бұрын
Which is not true because the 12.7x108 is rated for 360 MPa and .50 bmg (12.7x99) is rated for 417 MPa. A long cartridge doesn't make a powerful round. The pressure the gun and ammo is designed for plays a huge factor.
@atranimecs
@atranimecs Жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaCalvert80 Pressure standards do not always equate to Muzzle Velocity or grain load. Upper receiver, /Barrel design considerations, and cartridge shape/thickness factor into theoretical pressure designs. At the end of the day, actual performance of 12.7x108 has higher muzzle velocity and room for larger loads period. Chronographs don't lie. If you are talking "muzzle energy" then yes the .50 takes the cake. Notice muzzle energy and velocity are two different measurements and I was speaking strictly about velocity, not energy/power. Also notice there was no edit made on my initial comment.
@JoshuaCalvert80
@JoshuaCalvert80 Жыл бұрын
Well, in physics more pressure means more velocity. And that's why you can find faster .50 bmg ammo with higher muzzle energy out there then 12.7x108, not even counting slap rounds. The difference isn't that big and doesn't really matter, my point is longer case doesn't equal faster, more powerful round. Another example is 9mm Steyr (9x23) vs. 9mm Luger (9x19). The Luger is faster and more powerful because of rated pressure.
@firesupport162
@firesupport162 Жыл бұрын
.50 cal to note is still 12.7mm
@atranimecs
@atranimecs Жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaCalvert80 I stand corrected. To reframe what was I saying was a comparison between standard-issued military round velocities for both cals. Its splitting hairs for velocity since both around ~3000 f/s and only highly specialized .50 BMG hit that 4000 f/s bar. There is a ton of different factors altogether though, difference in standards between countries, quality of powders, and all that can play a role.

@@user-xb5it8zy6l Not true at all! John Moses Browning scaled up the M1919 machinegun from .30-06 (7.62x63mm US) to fire the 12.7x99mm BMG and created the M2 .50 cal machinegun. The M61 Vulcan 20mm was scaled down to create the M134 in 7.62 NATO. I know A LOT about guns.

Serious question. Could you create a tripod that doubles as a wagon? Be able to raise the wheels when firing but lower them when you need to move.
@ricke4492
@ricke4492 6 ай бұрын
Yes, it is possible, but it would add weight, if it were made of aluminum, at least the tripod. Like a muzle brake on the barrel to help with control.

Seems based off of the KORD hmg or older variant of soviet 50 cal belt fed (not DsHk, vastly different) There is also a video of a russian soldier hip firing a kord or NSV like this one, interesting stuff.
