Thanks so much for the best detailed information I've read on the internet. I knew it was a kidney stone, but my doctor was worried and sent me to the ER . On the CT scan it showed a ureter stone in the mid section. The ER doc said to follow up with a Urologist as soon as possible. Have an appointment next Monday. God Bless everyone going through all of this!

Excellent presentation, I had extremely bad pain in my abdomen along with vomiting. The ambulance took me to emergency where they did a ct scan and xray and low and behold I have a kidney stone. I'm drinking heaps now and taking meds to relax the urethra so the 'boulder' can pass.

I just had lithotripsy laser on a 11 mil round stone. Gotta say the whole experience wasn’t bad at all. I just pulled the string for the stent out just now and it was not a big deal at all. Thankful for modern medicine.

I had a 12m stone was rushed to the hospital a year or so back. If your getting chills as well shaking go to the hoppital ASAP that means the stone is stuck and your going septic. The urine is going back into your body. Beware of that! Yes, the doctor will give you medicine due to infection for a week before having to go back to the hospital to have it removed. Right now I am feeling pain again on my right back side hoping it will pass. I do not want to go to the hospital again. What if I take medicine to get more unrine flow but the stone is too big to pass? I know back in the hospital. I hope it passes. Thank you so much. This is a great video!

I have a stent now. It was left to enlarge my urethra so my Dr. can reach the stone on a second session. Ouch! He didn't want to force it avoiding possible rupture. You explained better than him and I now know what I am going through. Thank you for this wonderful presentation.

I have lessons to share on tricks I learned that helped me. It would be great if it helped anyone else. I had a stent put in after LASER lithotripsy for a 4-5 mm stone jammed in my UPJ. After the procedure, for the first day or so the pain in urination was agonizing to the point where I was dreading much necessary urination. The trick I learned was to just let the urine flow out and relax. Absolutely do NOT let the muscles clinch that one would normally use to force or cease urination. The agonizing pain was directly from the clinching. Living with the stent got much easier with each passing day. ALSO important- Eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast as it helps manage agonizing constipation. Drinking a lot of fluids and Ice packs helped also. I have to go in for the stent removal tomorrow. I know it has a 38% chance of moderate-severe pain, but I am greatly consoled with the knowledge that this whole episode is likely to soon be over.

I'm a F/59 stone former w/ family history.Have had stones for over 10 years now. I now live in FL. In Oct 2019 went on ketogenic diet due to diabetes. I have lost 75 pds. 155 lbs now feel so much better. I just had another stone. Had a 7.4 MM lipotripsy. 2 years ago. I drink plenty of lemon water and drink ACV. But now I know that my diet isn't good for stones. I'm now afraid I will gain back my weight if change my diet again. Don't know what to do.

No blood when I had them. After being treated twice...(two lithrotripsy shockwave treatments)There was one was stuck and causing distress... after calling the 700 Club for prayer just before I was on the way to have someone crush the one that was not passing, I went to pee one more time before leaving the house. I was hitting my bladder area and the thing broke and fell out!

Woah I'm glad you are ok! My Dad has a catheter until he gets a treatment decision tomorrow. I commented "I bet that is fun" and he laughed. He has 4 stones in his kidney as seen by a cat scan. They'll probably blast them out with the sound device, which is typical for stones that are stuck.

Caroline Wallner, MD is an excellent presenter. My Dad has stones and he got a temporary catheter until treatment is decided. I commented "That sounds fun" and he laughed. I believe there's probably something he's not doing, but he drinks water, lots, I believe. I don't believe he controls salt. There was a comment somewhere that reduction in protein can help. He won't do that much.

Prolonged ureteral obstruction leading to kidney swelling (hydronephrosis) may lead to permanent loss of kidney function. There is also an increased risk of infection, leading to urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis, and sepsis.

Thank you very much for you very informative video. I have a ? ureteral stone (7mm) in relation to my 50 year old urostomy which has been reconstructed on several occassions the last one being about 25 years ago. At present it is unclear on straight x-ray whether the stone is in the ureter or uruostomy segment and I am schedulled for CT scan for clarification Some six months ago I had nephrostomy and stent for hydronephrosis. I understand that removal of the stone during the N+S procedure was contra-indicated but I am unclear why this should be so and I would very much appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

ok so if youre passing a kidney stone, what does that mean? does that mean it's completely out of the kidney and travelling through the ureter eventually to the bladder? also does water help in speeding up this process and how long would it take to pass a kidney stone (for those that dont want to go to the hospital cause of their religious beliefs)

Hello doc, my father dignosed to have kidney stone and sugested to go for stent placement on the urether then the doctor will do procedure to remove it, I think laser?(not really get the explaination), however, my father do not have any pain /discomfort related to it. You will know it whenit starts on it's merry way. I just passed a 10mm x 6mm x 5mm stone...which was much larger than the 4x5x6 they saw on CT scan. Onset of pain was 11/28 (ER overnight) to passage to bladder on 12/9...sat in bladder until 12/20. At home treatment 800mg motrin when regular dose was not sufficient...Tamulosin and Pyridium to relax and calm the organs until passage, I still have surgery scheduled pending another CT scan. I still have more stones

@@lxk039 Mine felt like I had a urinary tract infection once it started bouncing around in my bladder and was TRYING to pass out. It was in my bladder for 13 days. I had the meds on board as I stated before. Are you male or female? Age? Have you been to a urologist? Make sure you are drinking at least 3 liters of water a day when you know you have one coming down...and until it comes out.

@@roseyganoe7159 I'm a male, 17. Yes I have been to an urologist, I did the UltraSound thing it came out that I have a 6mm stone. To be honest I thought I had UTI because all the symptoms matched. The Urologist gave me some antibiotics and told me to drink green tea. Lately I've not been drinking too much water or tea because it just annoys me that I can't empty the bladder fully. When I need to pee like alot it starts to kinda hurt and my urine flow seems even weaker when I have to pee alot. I'm thinking of removing it with laser after New Year's since drinking green tea or antibiotics didn't help at all.

@@lxk039 Wow that's young .I had the uti symptoms when the stone was trying to come out. That's what it sounds like. Green Tea is acidic...it helps control stones in the kidney ( as well as adding lemon/lime juice or apple cider vinegar)...but when you are symptomatic it can be more irritating...just drink plain water...lots of it. That stone could be bigger...that's what happened to me...but I passed it with meds. You should inquire of your regular doctor about Pyridium and Flomax...they helped so much.I don't understand why that hasn't been given..as well you should be taking an anti-inflammatory like Motrin. I am learning about diet for kidneys stones. You have to balance oxalate rich foods with calcium rich foods so that they bind in the stomach instead of the kidneys. They have me scheduled for surgery Jan 23rd...but I am having a CT scan done on the 3rd to see if my kidney has improved. And I did just develop an infection so they have me on antibiotics as well. I would insist on those meds...the longer it takes to pass that stone...the longer you have urine backing up in your kidney...the more damage can occur. Ultimately it is between you and your doctor what is best for you. But I feel those meds should have been given right at the start unless you have other conditions that prevent you from taking them.
