I do agree with the people below that they will (rightly!) lose many new customers unless they lower the price of the device+subscription and/or offer a lifetime subscription for something reasonable like $100 for those who have tried the monthly subscription and liked it. Another reasonable option would be if they did not charge subscription fees for cloud storage -- making the non-Connect remarkable like the device was for everyone a year ago.

I won't buy one, I've opted for an iPad Pro (which really is not the same). There is a limit to how many monthly subscriptions I'll pay for. The connect subscription is a money grab plain and simple.

All of the Connect plan features we've already had before the subscription became a reality. Now They've just strapped the user experience from all the features and called it "premium". It's just sad

Andrew, I am in the exact same situation like you. Was excited and ready to pay up. Then at last I heard about connect, the realized it was a monthly subscription. Can’t stand the thought of paying monthly for that. Sad

Exactly the same feeling here, was about to buy when I discovered the connection business model. No one should buy and encourage this< I'm looking for a second hand one from before subscription business model appeared. Hope the greedy company executive that came up with this model gets fired before the company dissapears because of this

Oooh, i was so close to buy this paper tablet until i watch this video. I actually took it for granted that I could save all my notes on any drive like Google, Dropbox or onedrive for free after I bought a tablet for such much money. Thanks for the video! It saved me some money………..

I really could use such a tablet; however, the subscription model is insane to enable integration to Google Drive. This should be considered basic and the subscription model should only be for upgraded storage.

Insane! You can't even *email* notes to yourself without paying them $7.99 US per month as of May 2022. Emailing notes isn't even included for the $4.99 plan. What does an email stamp cost these days?! 🤣

That basically drove me away from buying this thing. The idea of interactive ebook is great, the greed of the company is immeasurable though. You want to charge me for basic things I am doing with other devices for free? Ok, no problem, in this case you are getting $0 from me 😂 Oh man, these Apple wannabees are just straight ridiculous!

One of the key reasons to buy something like this is to be able to write on it and have hand writing recognition out of the box. To have to submit to a subscription just to unlock this essential element is lunacy - they're having a giraffe, surely?

@ass iPad is not the same thing. There is, of course, a Chinese equivalent, it has more functions and is cheaper. I am even forced to buy it, although I would prefer Remarkable2

I have been wanting a Rm2 for some time. I finally got to try one and loved it. I had my trigger finger on the buy now until I realised this device doesn't natively save to the cloud. Imagine if Microsoft wanted to charge me everytime I used my laptop to save to Google cloud !! I'm a little sad but there is no way I'm adding a monthly subscription in and buying a premium device at the same time!

I have just become aware of the Remarkable and I think it's exactly what I need but I will not buy into anything that needs a monthly payment. Pity really because having it to save to my Google Drive would be excellent. Seems really mean to charge for something which isn't even theirs to sell. I'll look at other products.

I'm not opposed to subscription, just opposed to a model that charges for features that should be standard. Google Drive / One Drive should be a given and handwriting to txt should be standard.

🤣 So removing features then selling them back to you is a "premium plan" now. Also don't forget you have to pay to be able to use use Google Drive and Dropbox Which is free to use everywhere else.😤 Remarkable is dead now.

I love the Remarkable. But this has left me gobsmacked. Suppose you want a large epaper device that you can write on. It should store everything that you write and have handwriting recognition. (Otherwise you might as well use paper). Here are your choices in the UK: Remarkable 2 Cost after 3 years: £635.64 Kobo Elipsa Total cost ever: £349. Supernote A5 Total cost ever: £333.94

The Elipsa has very good Dropbox integration and stellar handwriting recognition, too (so long as you're writing in English, that is). I've tried all of these: if you want a device primarily to read, go with the Elipsa; the Supernote will be the superior note taker.

So if Apple took away the possibility to store your work outside the computer/tablet/phone, and tried to make their customers pay to get it back - every single month, you would be OK with that? You think that is the best way for a fairly young company to try to sell their product? I understand why so many are having second thoughts about buying. It's wrong, and they will pay for this error, because soon there will competators on the marked - and belive me, they will not make the same mistake.

I agree in elements of what you say, it reminds me much of what Google Photos did with their model. Personally I’d rather pay ongoing to support a feature set and get new updates than let the future waste away, as RM are likely not making much from releases of hardware - so to continue development that makes sense. It’s a big conversation.

I was using REMARKABLE 1 for a year. Began to give trouble in the last 2 months. PDF doesn't turn pages. They are constantly freezing. Getting notes is also a problem. etc. Started disturbing anymore. I hope they solve this problem. Obviously my trust is left. The prices are flying.

I don’t understand if you don’t connect to the subscription can you still upload your documents to your Google Drive account? Can someone just explain what the consequences are of not having the subscription? For example not being able to upload any documents

For the price of the connect plan you could buy 8 Din A4 college blocks containing 80 pages each. Thats 640 pages a month. the starting price is about 500 Dollars/Euros. If you want to digitalize your notes just put it in the fast scanner which scans all papers accurate enough. If you don't have such an scanner. It's cheaper to buy one than that remarkable.

I didn't want to use connect but I was charged anyway even though I didn't sign up to it. Didn't like that. I must resolve this issue.

I've been so interested in this for a while. BUT, in a few YT videos, they've talked about how Remarkable 2 saves it's notes to IT's cloud, where they remain in "Remarkable format" so you can keep editing them on your device, and they're updated. Apparently, if you want to "back up" to Dropbox or another cloud service you may already have, it just sends it to THEM, in pdf format, which you can't edit. AND, if you edit the note on your device some more and then backup to Dropbox, it doesn't overwrite them - it makes ANOTHER redundant copy. Over and over. They are calling it an "integration" so it's just meant for exporting a pdf copy. So not a true "sync" in anyway, unless it's with Remarkable's servers. (and the "connect bundle" isn't on their website.)

Jesus! I was thinking about buying this device, but it makes the while product sooo expensive due to the Connect plan that it turned me off and I think it will discourage so many customers, that those one paying for it will not cover the loss from lost purchases. I think that this step will kill the whole thing. Going for iPad or ONYX. I feel sorry, because the product itself is great. But there is no way I'd be paying for something what is normally for free (access to the cloud).aybe you should re-think this idea and try a different approach.

Believe so, although you do have to commit to 3 months of Connect upfront. But after that I’d assume it’s fair game.

Pen and paper is the "Gold Standard." It works all situations e.g. posting packages, sitting school exams, signing documents etc. Plus it doesn't need to be recharged and is at a fraction of the price. An a5 soft cover journal with a Refyne EP1 Titanium bolt action pen is the best setup I found so far. EP1 uses a Parker style refill that only needs to be swap out one to three times a year depending on the amount writing you do. I like the idea of remarkable but it does not work in everyday life

Oh Dear. Way overpriced in the first instance now they making you pay for something that was free previously. Big mistake, poor move from their marketing team to try to get to a SasS model. Pity. I'm looking elsewhere.

Still horrendously overpriced. For everything an iPad can do over and above this device it can’t tempt me away. Needs to be in the £150-200 price bracket before subscriptions kick in. Shame as it looks like a great device.

Wrong, in terms and conditions they can ask you to pay at any given time don't accept terms if you are a user, you will get ripped off.

I bet you are not an active rM user, from your description you don't seem to feel anything that's unreasonable. You need to feel the burn we the existing rM users feel. How can we advocate our friends and families go get one? We just can't set them up with such a dishonest conduct. Also being an existing customer, I think the days they come to us to monetize from the existing features and docs are counting.

It would be $11 x 12 = $132 per year + initial cost: $299 - so $331 for year one and then $132 per year after that. But agree, it does bring the pricing up, but if you used this as your main docs/notes tool - then this is the cost you'll need to evaluate.

I have a reMarkable 2 and this is one of my best purchases in recent years However, I don't like this subscription idea. I bought this device to be « free from the modern world » in a way, and the subscription is the opposite. On the other hand, from a business point of view, I understand the interest (but I would still sell it with 100$ less)
